Went to the 'family' with smart shoes

Went to the 'family' nightclub in the valley with smart shoes, and got denied entry. Can you believe it ?

d'oh.. so didn't bother going back they sure as hell don't need my money!!!

My housemate told me they came up from the Gold Coast once and werent' allowed in for their dress......

That whole thing shocks me, I mean, isn't casual all about 'no worries', though ???

The definition of casual , according to wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casual

In the European tradition, casual is the dress code which emphasizes comfort and personal expression over presentation and uniformity. It includes a very wide variety of costume, so it is perhaps better defined by what it isn't than what it is. The following are not considered casual wear:

* Ceremonial dress such as royal robes and full dress military costume
* Formal wear such as white tie and black tie
* Suits

Family nightclub also fail to mention on their website what the dress code is. So I wasted my time, walking through that mess of people in the valley to get told 'sorry your shoes are too smart. we're trying to keep the dress code light, something like joggers will be fine'..... Arrrgh.

Talk about over analysing things!!!! That to me is just the height of hyprocrisy !!!

So they lost my money for the night... fail!

Did you then present yourself at the same concern's new venue Cloudland, on the other side of the block? Wouldn't be ironic if those same shoes weren't smart enough to gain entry there?

Actually, I'm most surprised that you even own a pair of shoes Master-of-Soups- let alone they would prove too spiffy for the likes of Fams..... you Hippy

Marsoups, I should confess that employees of Katarzyna Group have drawn my own ire in the recent past for not sharing my penchant or appreciation for pants with functional pockets.

The only places that require you to 'dress up' in 'dress shoes' in the valley is Cloudland, Zuri, and GPO + Limes to an extent.

Why you would want to wear 'dress shoes' to a big dance club is beyond me. They have those codes to keep out city professionals who both dont belong or dance in dance clubs, and fully sick kids wearing skate shoes from logan/caboolture/inala etc.

Not all venues want business shoe wearing people. Either conform to the dress code or quit crying. This horse has been flogged many times before by butthurt people like yourself.

Thumbs up

Well now you know.

Next time, if you're wearing dress shoes, just have a talk to the bouncer before entering the line. Explain what's going on. Usually they're cool and let you in.

just a tip

cocktail/lounge bars etc (like thos mentioned above) = smart attire including business shoes
dance clubs. = casual. and that includes NO business attire. if anything they are doing you a favour.

and at the end of the day.. if bouncers dont like you.. or are just simply bored, they will find something wrong and use as excuse.

perhaps try stalking places david attenborough style in the valley with bonoculars and a notebook in hand. Def better research than just googling a very loose meaning word into wiki.

and another point.. i dont know if you have noticed yet... this aint europe.

indeed. the reason they do not list their dress policy on any website, or anywhere is so that if someone comes wearing the exact clothes mentioned, they can't say "i don't like your shoes" and tell you to piss off because they really don't like your face, or how you walk.

edit: and yes shards i was quite annoyed at the cargo pant fiasco
though luckily for me i was given a "warning" before you were just denied, something like "i'll let you in this time, but those are not cool"
or some shit..

i haven't really gone back much since.. maybe i should? hehehe

i got denied to zuri because i was wearing ninja shoes. i made a point that their prior owner was a bankrupt criminal and that everyone in there is a douchebag pretending to have money by wearing fancy shoes.

I SHOULD HAVE MADE A THREAD ABOUT IT. DOH!

bore. another winge thread about dress restrictions.
i can bet you my shoes that it had nothing to do with your shoes. they probably didnt like the look of you or you looked like a mong, as they let people with 'dress shoes' through their doors every weekend.

I love how people prop themselves up after not gettin into a club with the whole 'ill just take my money elsewhere' line. Do you really think they give a shit? Your $50 (or however much you were willing to spend) will just be replaced by money from the other hundreds of people that walk through their doors that wend...

Whoa, you kinda get these responses on inthemix don't ya.. The yawn responses are the most boring of all! The smartass responses also reek... So much for Brisbane being considered the 'friendly' city with all these dumbass comments!

Sorry, but, some of you who imply it is my look, ok sure this is the case sometimes, but I have lived in Sydney and never once did I ever have problems getting into a club.. I've never once had a 'don't like the look of you' response.. The security guy at family was actually quite courteous and explained that those where the rules for the night and apologized, it is *his* management that sets the rules. Everyone else was wearing joggers, and in fact, a friend of mine came in earlier wearing smart leather shoes and was denied entry, went back to his car, came back with runners and they let him straight in! I dare any of you smart alecks to give it a try wearing smart shoes on a Friday night and see where it gets you!

Madam meow what has this not being europe got anything to do with it ? 'casual' actually holds the same definition here, but because there happen to be so many anal dickhead laws here we just have to put up with it, eh!

It's just kinda humourous to me that the definition of 'casual' is so finicky that it goes so far as to explicity require casual, rather than 'come as you are' sort of thing....

Sure, family won't give a fuck, they won't miss me... Still, it's just appalling, friends of mine came up from the gold coast once only to be told they won't get let in!! How's that for putting your night off..

Funny when it's not you but put yourself in those shoes.... And then the jokes over!!!

i always used to think dresscodes are dumb and while i still do in theory, i haven't actually been knocked back from a venue in years now

it sucks if you're coming from out of town or something, but otherwise familiarise yourself with your local scene and scrub yourself up properly

hope this helps~

i remember by mate had runners on, and was wearing phatties/raver gear. he came out later, and there was a guy in normal jeans getting kicked out of the line being a douche, and they blamed his shoes. and he pointed at my mate and said they were teh same shoes he just came out of the club. and the door girl quickly goes "yeah but he's a raver, he needs those to dance in" and told him to fuck lol

cheers, yeah i been a bit out of touch with mainstream clubs lately....

i'd just made a last minute decision to go , y'know... seeing as though Bexta was playing, and I haven't seen her play in years and quite liked what she was doing... Thought I'd catch Transducer before that, too..

as i remembered the family being a 'smart place' I thought, well, I'd better put on dem smart shoes just in case I don't get let in... smart shoes are usually so stiff and immobile for dancing , i hardly wear 'em out !!... well.. its just funny in the end.

annoying at the time.... if you barely go to these clubs you don't know what the latest trend is... Who knows you could get the unpleasant surprise if the latest trend happened to change to bunny slippers without notice!

great cartoon there BTW that's so funny... considered it as a wallpaper

to the person that said they'd take a $1000 bet, I'd almost be willing to take that bet on.. If you don't know somebody that works there and no 'high-powered' connections, that is

p.s. funniest comment 'ps go back to sydney!'

Unfortunately, with dress codes its just the way it is. Lots of people have to find out the hard way what is/what isnt acceptable.

Friday night at fams in a pretty casual night, with phatties around etc.

I think the general rule is 'streetwear/casual' i.e jeans, t-shirt and some kind of white casual shoe will get you in most places except Zuri, Cloudland and upstairs Love & Rockets

Dont be bitter about it, now that you know what to waer, do it, and go, you will have a good time.

you can get in with dress shoes fine, just make sure they are not too clunky&chunky and don't wear your dress pants - chuck on some jeans instead.

Thumbs up

Okay.
So by the end of the night, after hopping to 4 different venues, we decided to go to Family. My mates were wearing dress shoes. I told them not to worry and that I'd just talk our way in.
I loaded up this thread on my phone and saved RWS's image.
At the front of the line I go, "Hey, have you guys seen this shit?"
Showed them:

Everyone was like: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHALKAHAlkahdsjakl"
We all got in fine.

Went to the cloak room and was all like, "Hey, have you seen this picture?"

I tried to explain everything and we were all like LOLOLOLOLIUKOLOLOOOLO
Then I got a fat handful of chupa chupps.

Real-life -> ITM -> Real-life.

Hahahaha.

Oh yeah, Sky Room was pretty dope.
