Pretty Simple nights are quickly drawing to a close, for our second last show we have invited 2 amazing artists from the beloved land of Germany, to help us celebrate the deep and tech orientated flavours Pretty Simple built its foundation on. Ffour and the team at Pretty Simple proudly present Germany's Roland Appel (Sonar Kollectiv/Compost) and Chris Tietjen (Cocoon)

Roland Appel

Last year, Roland Appel's 'Dark Soldier' made a huge splash on club land - what started out as a secret hit at the 2008 Miami Winter Music Conference, found its way into the record bags of the likes of DJ Hell, Laurent Garnier, Pete Tong, Tiefschwarz and Gilles Peterson amongst others. Many UK publications even crowned it Track of the Month last summer - but this was to be just the beginning for Roland Appel.

Roland Appel is no newcomer to the world of music production. He started spinning records and producing music in the early 90s as a member of Fauna Flash with long-time partner and friend Christian Prommer. They made their name with 3 full-length albums, numerous 12's, remixes and appearances on renowned labels such as Compost Records, G-Stone Recordings and !K7. Then they both teamed up with Peter Kruder to produce the sublime electronica of Voom:Voom. Roland‘s career reached a peak when he formed the band Trüby Trio with Rainer Trüby and Christian Prommer - their album 'Elevator Music' was a huge success that successfully crossed the German broken beat and dance music scene. While Roland gained learned a lot from these team-projects, he felt a strong need to work on his own. A new solo album is to be released shortly.

Chris Tietjen:

Since 2005, the 23 year-old Chris Tietjen is a part of the Cocoon family. With his Next Generation series at CocoonClub Frankfurt, he established one of the most important creative pools for upcoming DJ talents; besides that, he regularly provides the listeners with one of the most crucial musical determinations of contemporary Techno. The characteristic elements of Tietjen's understanding of DJ skills are on the one hand the stress of intensive bass lines and driving percussions, but also the respect for the arrangement of the individual tracks. Chris’ most recent label compilation presents all dancefloor burners of the last 12 months on Cocoon Recordings in a diversified and coherent mix: Martin Buttrich, Schneider & Galluzzi, Guy Gerber, Tiefschwarz, Reboot, Adam Proll and Timo Maas undisputedly belong to the group of artists who have enhanced electronic dance music in the past year. In his terrific mix, Tietjen focuses on the releases of Swedish duo Minilogue whose CD/DVD album "Animals" belongs to the most successful releases on Cocoon and thus is represented with three tracks (among them remixes by Dubfire and Tolga Fidan). Chris is an excellent party dj, capable of taking audiences to new heights with each mix, Melbourne be prepared for the full Cocoon experience!

I saw Chris Tietjen at Cocoon (Amnesia/Ibiza) last year, awesome sound, great structure in his sets, warmed it up perfectly for Vath that night, this will be an amazing night, fantastic work!

I had a great night Friday @ Darkbeat but think that Tietjen's set was probably the most enjoyable set I heard all weekend. Super tight mixing, great groove and flow, crowd was really into it - couldn't fault it. Def wanna see this guy booked again - as mentioned - maybe before Vath for Cocoon shenanigans?!

Man i'm gonna miss F4 - Suite was rockin all night also.
