LOL Gaddafi LOL
This forum could do with some comedic relief:
Quote:
He tore up a copy of the UN charter, demanded an investigation into the assassination of John F Kennedy and appeared to endorse Australia's bid for a seat on the United Nations Security Council.
Quote:
And the outrage at his embrace of the Lockerbie bomber is still causing him hassles when it comes to finding a place to pitch his ceremonial Bedouin style tent. He's been turned away from Central Park and a town north of Manhattan.
The tent has gone up on a property owned by Donald Trump although there's now a stop work order in place and the tycoon says he knew nothing about it. http://www.abc.net.au/am/content/2009/s2694900.htm

His point about UN reform is fair enough, but the rest is just LOL. Still completely perplexed as to why we sent Tim Fischer to celebrate the anniversary of his dictatorship. At the end of the day he's just another criminal despot.

my mid-east tutor is obsessed with Gaddafi.
One of the most entertaining politicians to be sure.

I honestly thought that Colonel Geddafi was a fictional character from some ancient TV show until I saw that on the news

From ninemsn:
A UN translator collapsed after a marathon session transcribing the Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi's speech to the UN yesterday, the New York Post reports. The Libyan leader berated Western powers Wednesday in a 75 minute diatribe, accusing the global body of failing to prevent millions of deaths as he demanded trillions of dollars in colonial reparations. Gaddafi's own translator struggled to cope with the leader's torrent of words. "I just can’t take it anymore," Gaddafi’s interpreter shouted into the live microphone — in Arabic, according to the New York Post. The UN’s Arabic section chief, Rasha Ajalyaqeen, took over and translated the final 20 minutes of the speech. "His interpreter just collapsed – this is the first time I have seen this in 25 years," another UN Arabic interpreter told The Post... ...The maverick Libyan gave what may go down among the more memorable speeches to the UN General Assembly, referencing issues as diverse as the John F. Kennedy assassination, Philippine emigration and swine flu as many fellow leaders gradually drifted out of the room. Well done, Colonel, well done.. |

I'd actually rather live in Libya than at least half of the rest of the Arab world. Especially if I was female. Gaddafi is a bit like Hussein in one respect- he's a bastard but he keeps a pretty tight lid on fundamentalist nutjobbery at home. Having all that oil and the second highest GDP per capita in Africa probably helps too.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...n-1821752.html
excerpt: Quote:
The mysterious host asked the Italian hospitality agency for "500 attractive girls between 18 and 35 years of age, at least 1.7 metre high", and if the women who answered the call were in the dark about their duties, they must have felt confident that the event would be an interesting one.
As it turned out, they were right – but not, perhaps, in a way they might have expected. The host was none other than Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. Miniskirts and plunging necklines were forbidden. And the purpose of the gathering was to convert them to Islam. |
