Bickle Dynasty to introduce ID scanners at venues

http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/s...5-3102,00.html

UNRULY patrons will be banned for life at Fortitude Valley's most popular nightclubs as part of a plan to curb alcohol and drug-fuelled crime.

Lou Bickle, who owns Cloudland, Press Club, Empire, Family Nightclub, Bunk and Rics Cafe, will spend about $150,000 on a new, linked ID scanner system, to ensure dangerous revellers will be turfed out permanently.

''We are going to be our own policemen. If we put you out of our venue, you're not coming back,'' he said.

Mr Bickle said he was determined to ''fix-up the Valley'' and encouraged other venues to do the same.

''I don't need the police, I don't need the government, I'm going to do it myself,'' he said. ''The thing that a punter will hate more than anything is that they're stuck in the street and can't go into a premises.

''I think they will dread that more than getting a $250 fine.''

In the past three months nearly 50,000 patrons have already been refused entry from Mr Bickle's clubs and dozens kicked out.

''When they come up with their driver's licence, the little red light's going to come up and we'll say 'sorry buddy, you're not going to get in - at any of our venues','' he said.

The tailor-made system will be introduced by next year and will target drug dealers, who have been caught at Family before.

''If a drug dealer comes in there, they've got to go out to the car somewhere. They don't carry all the pills on them,'' he said.

''So if somebody goes out four or five times in one night, I'll say, 'put that name on the side, put an alarm bell code on it, when he comes in next week, get ready'.''

Mr Bickle said this would be much more effective than the State Government's glass ban to be introduced on December 2, which provided ''no incentive'' for other licensees to do the right thing.

''Once again, they're tarring everyone with the same brush,'' he said. ''I know there are operators out there who are pretty ordinary but laws don't fix them up - what fixes them up is competition.

''If you've got an operator in the Valley and he's got to have plastic glasses and I'm next door and I don't, it's going to drive him crazy.''

Mr Bickle said Cloudland, which was this week crowned Australian New Hotel of the Year, would be forced to serve its cocktails out of plastic cups even though it had never had a glassing.

''There's no point hoping that the Government is going to change and do anything about this - they're just going to keep bashing us,'' he said. ''We're on our own, absolutely isolated and on our own.''

with bouncers/staff choosing who get thrown out and banned, that then effects all venues. sounds like a shit idea.

also, what is the retention of information. what are the privacy issues. how long can they retain scanned information. what are the privacy issues of your details being sent between clubs. who sees this information. will it be shared with randoms since your details will be spread around the club.

i refuse to bend over take for dodgy bouncers and club owners. especially when they claim they are being all responsible.

If you are worried about getting in, just start off at ric's cafe, get your ID scanned there and then work your way up the hill to the 'premium' venues

DJ or Brisbane obviously has not sat with the bureaucrats that are spruiking this system for the last 6 years, i have. How do you get around sensor technology mate?, please xplain. And dont say "alfoil" around your card. Yes, you will be limited to 11 standard drinks in a 24 hour period, i have been to those meetings too mate. Every drink will be assigned to your card, and tallys kept. No, you cannot buy into "shouts" , they are to be banned. Go over 11 drinks in 24 hour period, no booze. Of course , personal privacy was never raised in these meetings, dealing with real zealots here guys, paid for by taxpayers of course. History is to be kept for "medical" reasons, haha. Of course this whole thing is utter communist stupidity, but you idiots voted them back in. I'll send you a card from the free world in Asia, leaving for good. Go Anna, you do the left proud. Pity you have bankrupted a once free and great state and utterly violated our culture.

Yeah that bloke seems to think so, and raises a good point about the new driver licences being implemented:

Quote:
Lou Bickle, you know damn well that the new Qld Smart Licences will have sensor technology mate. Why are you making this beat up. Licences will be automatically scanned to enforce the 11 standards drinks max in the 24 hour period and enforce Liquor accord agreements. Also to keep records on people who drink etc. Big Brother.Better get more cops in the suburbs, because there are going to be more parties at private homes. The Insider.

Posted by: Whistleblower of Qld 12:36am September 26, 2009

Some of these comments are hilarious though, seriously:

Quote:
Andy, if you have done nothing wrong you have nothing to fear! I would love to be able to have a drink anynight on want without some drug dealer/taker trying their hardest to wreck my night out. Mr Bickle you are a credit to your industry.

Yes, because it's only ever wrongdoers who are the victims of wrongdoing.

So if you get thrown out for being too drunk, you could possibly be not let in again? Angus will be stuffed

It takes a quick photo of your ID, which goes to a computer to compare it to ID's on the blacklist.

tbh i don't really have an issue with it, if it keeps knobheads out of the clubs then cool

privacy hasn't really existed for a while, and i don't really believe that any of the orwellian control strategies as suggested by Carte Blanche's news.com commenter will ever be allowed in.

the companies that implement this kind of system would have already thought of all these concerns, and will presumably have addressed them.

sure it's possible that there could be an information leak or system hack or something, but if that happens then someone's is going to have be responsible for the breach and figure out how to fix the damage

i did read up about the fingerprint scanners they are putting into Home (?), and it seemed pretty secure to me. when a company is in the business of looking after this kind of info.. they have to be able to answer ALL of these concerns

mmm i don't see it that way this time. i think it's different to something like the 3am lockout because this doesn't actually change what i am allowed to do. they're not stopping you from going to a club.. they're adding a new condition of entry - which is their right i suppose

problem is they think figure print scans, and dna tests are fool-proof.. fools. there are so many fuck ups with that kind of information.

same goes for lie detection. innocent people are often mistaken for crimes.

all they do i pick up with you reacted to teh question, and just because you didn't commit the crime does not mean you'll sit calmly through a test.

the only way to do effective lie detection is give them a multi choice quiz eg "how much was stolen at the event, a) $100, b) 200 etc etc. and if you have the ciminal they will often trigger at facts of the crime. so the rate of false positive (innocent people as quilty) is totally reduced, but because the rate of detecting criminal is slightly lower, they refuse to use it

i don't trust much anymore :/

The idiots rule and the more people take it the more rules and bullshit regulations we will have thrust upon us.

Say you want to leave the venue to go and have a smoke outside, then maybe you need to make a phone call, then maybe you want something to eat, then you are labled a drug dealer, ive got a problem with that.

you can't drink more than 11 drinks in a day. we've all done that....

so i take my mates out for drinks, and i buy them drinks...

ok just give me a sippy cup i can't stab anyone with, filled with cordial and stand outside a police station and then maybe.. just maybe.. nanna will be happy.

i'm a fucking adult, treat me as such.

and as a note, when drunk i've only ever punched an atm ;P never people, regardless of how wanky i've get. control idiots not freedoms
