Hi guys,

Here's my dilemma: I work in a office with around 15 staff, including my manager, who's been happily married for 2 years now. Last week as he drove me home he told me there is something he needs to say, but once said, it would have great impact on our friendship. I'm thinking to myself "oh fuck, this isn't happening to me. I think I know what he's gonna say". And then he said it. He said he likes me and we connect on so many levels, blah blah blah....

But here's the thing: I do like him. A lot. He's incredibly smart and funny. God damn I melt when those two qualities combine in perfection. We've always enjoyed conversations, on many topics, not only on work. Never had I thought this would play out in reality because HE'S MARRIED for god's sake. In retrospect, he did mention before it's possible for a man to love two people at once.

Anyway, we still had sex that night back at my place.

The thought of going to work on Tuesday is just totally unbearable, I don't what to do.....!!

Because he was married I never would have slept with him. Ever. In a million years. That would have made me a home wrecker (IMO) which I wasn't prepared to do. Funny thing is he was the HR Manager. Not going to go on about the guy other than to say he was a real piece of work. Bottom line is you've been played. And there's a good chance you're not the first subordinate employee he's slept with. Yes that's you. The subordinate employee. If you think it's going to end well then you're deluded because he holds the power in the relationship. And no he's not going to leave his wife for you. Ever.

Yes you've got to go back to work on Tuesday but you've got to decide what to do. Yes you could ask for a pay rise and a promotion but that will most likely end very badly (ironically Letterman's in the news at the moment because he testified in front of a grand jury - someone found out he'd been having affairs and tried to extort him). Best thing you could do IMO is talk to him and say it can't happen again. BTW I'd also keep a few notes handy in case he tries to sack you or decides to make life difficult for you. Don't beat yourself up about it. Can't change what's happened. If you try to be a bit mature about it then you might come out relatively unscathed.

You can continue with it, but know that if you do so, there's a 99% chance it will all blow up one day. When that day comes, one of you will be walking out of your job. Keeping in mind he's the manager ... Do you back yourself to be the ones that stays?

Alternatively you can just blow it off as though it never happened on Tuesday and never really speak of it again. Yeah, it will always be there, but give it a month or two and it will pass if you just get on with work.

The one thing you CAN'T do, is start thinking about him further like you've already kinda started to do. He's fucking married until he takes action otherwise, don't be the bad person that keeps it going because he's tugged a few heartstrings. That would be brutally disrespectful to all 3 parties, one of whom you don't even know.

I have been in your situation and my advice is to forget about it and him completely. I would also recommend finding a new job if you can.

My boss, who had been a good friend for years did the same thing two weeks after he got married. I was stupid enough to believe that what we had was genuine and that he would somehow annul the marriage or leave her to be with me. Especially with all the crap he said to me.

Two months went on before I woke up to myself and ended it. It took nearly 8 months for things to return to any normality and working with him during this time was fucking awful.

An affair is bad enough, an affair with your boss is another thing entirely. DON'T do it.
