All night til morning large scale dance events, and Belmont Racecourse as a venue

I remember attending a dance event about 4-5 years back at Belmont Racecourse. I think it was called The Sonic Festival. Great venue...much fun to be had on the escalators. Why are there not more night til morning events of this scale and why has Belmont Racecourse not been used for an event like this since? At least Ascot is being given a shot this summer.

^ LTJ Bukem headlined a couple of Sonics from memory. So wish I had been to at least one of them.

Fark, so many good memories were had at events held at Belmont.

Damian Lazarus and Ivan Schmagge, James Zabiela, Mauro Picotto, Marco V, The Upbeats, Ferry Corsten.....

Sonic at the Perth Entertainment Centre has gone down in history! That one was off the hook.

Sorry, I know I'm not answering the question. It's probably just a lack of promoters chasing that sort of event these days. As mentioned on other threads the prices of everything is sky rocketing and I think most people would see the market being better in day events or smaller club gigs.

But I agree, had some of the best gigs out at Belmont.

^ What a brilliant night that was!

When Richie Hawtin came on I lost patience as what he was playing was far too minimal for my liking, but Ivan Smagghe (fark the spelling of that name is confusing!) and Damian Lazarus blew my mind eight ways from Sunday. I can't remember what happened after I'd left the techno room that night.

You're thinking of Digital.

Marco V and Benjamin Bates headlined it in 2005. Mistress Barbara is the only headliner I can remember for the epic Digital that took place earlier this decade. I never went.

Marco V dropping the Mudblood remix of Flaming June - fkn epic!

I am pretty sure that night in question was indeed a NYE party. I had a train trip booked for Melbourne that day but the train never left Perth as sections of the Nullabor track had been washed away in a flash flood.

Can't remember how I acquired the ticket though hehe.

Marco V, Picotto, Benjamin Bates, Deekline & Wizard, Moving Fusion, etc etc.

NYD 06 was Sun Electric @ Belmont, one of the worst i've been to

Oh yeah.

We were supposed to have dinner with Ivan Smagghe the next night but we waited and waited and he didn't show. We called and he asked us if we had drugs. When we said no he said he wasn't coming. Nice one dude.

^ Can't quite recall Smagghe's set tbh, although I do recall getting the two names mixed up. Warped melodic techno = fkn win!

Tis a good thing StereoSonic has come along. I never thought we'd see a replacement for the November festivals.

These were the days before I became my current chin-stroking self, they did exist! Probably the strongest memory was heading outside at 6am to brave the morning sun only to be confronted with that lady in the leather bondage-type outfit. I know she's been mentioned here before, perhaps even with photo evidence.

Oh man she was foul! I remember my bro saying "hey look at that" and you could feel the bile rise. I didn't need to see that.

Science fiction, Ministry of sound, global, sub culture...

There has been many events there in the past.

Why is it not used anymore? It's logisticly a nightmare. Almost everything needs to be brought in for this venue. You may say that the same applies for the various parks used. Well the diffrence is the bar proffits. In a park, they take a large portion of the bar profits and this levels out the other costs involved. As for Belmont race course, Perth Racing takes all the profits and charges a rental fee. So if you do the maths you would discover that door profits alone is barely enough to support the event.

Also the place has low cielings making production realy hard.

I have used the venue myself, in the past for an event. Apart frm the main logistics everything else is ok there. I had no problem with the council, and Perth Racing was more then happy to take the money.

Kriece followed by James Zabiela at Mulberry Farm, NYD 2005 was absolutely epic.
