Local Help Needed - Good Restaurants

Hi Guys

I'm wondering if you guys can help me out with a little bit of local knowledge?

I'm heading down for Sensation on NYE and want to take my lady on a nice romantic, relaxing dinner while we are down there, but have no idea where we should head.

Does anyone know of some good places (preferably in the city or immediate surrounds) that serve great food.

Thanks in advance.

How much do you want to spend? Any particular style of cooking you like?

There's a nice little place just off Little Collins Street callled "Syracuse" its a wine/tapas bar and the building is beautiful. But its not wanky either, there are couches and communal tables and the atmosphere is very relaxed..

when ever i take the ladies there theyre usually impressed..

also, "Movida" is nice

hope this helps..

peace x.

Went to Movida on friday night, had their bistec and spatchcock and they're both pfg. Not too pricey either.

So yea Parto, I'd recommend that.

Rockpool and Nobu - both Southgate/Crown waterfront - amazing food and wine list. Not cheap.

Taxi - Federation Square - as above.

As mentioned Movida is fantastic, but generally booked out for the next couple of months - try Bar Lourinha in Little Collins street for a similar, if not better experience if you're after Spanish tapas.

One of the random places on hardware lane was ok once ages back, and a short walk to pugg mahones if you need to get irish drunk after. Man, my advice is out of date and inaccurate, maybe i should have just not said anything.

If you like a bit of a jazz/downbeat etc band while you dine, Manchester Lane, funnily enough, on Manchester Lane of Flinders Lane is awesome! Food and wine when we went was top notch, and not super pricey, and the dinning area is 3 tiers down to a stage (which had an awesome 10 piece funk/soul band when we went). Perhaps not as relaxing and romantic as you're thinking, but it's great fun!

If you wanna really splurge, Vue De Monde

good luck booking if its on nye.

i've done vue de monde a couple of times and its impressive (albeit i've been in the private dining room both times)...

movida's (3 now!) are good "melbourne" and "current".

or try cumulus inc. or cuttler & co (just nth of city)....both good.

if you like japanese try ishizaka den (i think its called)....underneath postal hall cnr little collins and russell.

its a bit crazy down there though...cumulus or cuttler are good i reckon.

take her to Long Grain at the top end of China town. Its a pretty amazing modern Thai fusion restaurant. Its a little on the pricey side, dinner for 2 may be around $100-150+ but has a massive range of cocktails and the food is amazing. my gf and i go there whenever we have to celebrate anything together
