Pro Tools, Individual Stem Bouncing

hey all,

having a mad headache bouncing all the individual tracks from a recording i am working on out of pro tools so i can mix it down in my prefered software.

at the moment i'm doing each fucking channel in real time one at a time. so like. 5 mins spent bouncing the kick drum channel.

surely pro tools has a export stems option??! anyone know where i am not looking?

and don't ask why i want to mix outside of 'tools, i just do.

I am not 100% sure but i think if you can export the track rather than bouncing it down.
This will not include any processesing with plugins you may have done though.
I am pretty sure you just select the track and right/ctrl click export.
I havent used protools for a while though i am very rusty.

get silverspike's "tape it"

you insert it on every track, name each pluging and give it the folder you want the files to go to.

if youre not running any plug ins on the channels (or dont mind losing any effects youve put on) then u can just consolidate each track so they each play from beginning to end in one audio file & double click & name each track so u know theyre the full consolidated (ie kick1 cons) & then go into your audio files folder & copy them from there.

youll lose any mix levels as well but shouldnt matter too much if youre planning on mixing in another programme

You can also do it like this in a way that lets you have all your effects printed (for distributing stems or letting you disable tracks and keep them as backups and use the printed versions as your working copy):

1. Set your output on your track to a Bus (eg. bus 17, you're unlikely to be using it)
2. Make a new audio track, set the input to bus 17.
3. Arm for record and then record the whole track.

This is particularly useful for making group stems - eg. Drums on bus 17-18, Guitars on 19-20, BVs on 21-22, Ld Vox on 23, Bass on 24, Effects on 25-26 etc - you can just run one pass and get all your stems printed with effects at once (or if you're low on processing power, print one section at a time with as many effects as your PC can handle)!

Enjoy!
