Hiya Rocca, Have been living in Newy for almost two years now, and still asking this question ourselves! Have been to few nights at the Red Bar @ Cambridge, which were good to get out and about to meet people. I also believe there is King Street Hotel which I am still yet to check out. Not sure about other places, but http://www.newcastlemusic.com/ could be helpful for you. Happy settling in Let us know what you find!Shelle |

dont go out in newcastle. best advice you'll ever get.
cambo have started up a couple of decent nights in their renovated red bar but other than that... fannys is hip hop rnb and the worst crowd ever king st is cheesy cheese MOS. best place to be is the brewery on a sunday when the weather is good. it is always packed and guaranteed to have a good time.

well, there's a techtrance / hardtrance / Hardstyle gig at the cambridge on nov 21, $10 entry, should be big. Hunter Valley brewery put on a few trance gigs too, but they are generally hardstyle from the start, so expect the usual maitland / newcastle bandanna and dickies look.
i'm assuming you're into trance etc, going by your sig? |

king street is easily the biggest club in newcastle.
they tend to go with: fridays are Uno Fridays...cheap drinks and free entry for uni students (though not student night)..and they'll either have an international every say month..or national. saturdays are MOS regulars..cd tours or the odd international sundays are pub hours..7pm-12pm. pub rules. thongs shorts etc. called Any Given Sunday. Locals get their time to shine. And sometimes the trumpet dude will play. Usually the best night out is something like a Sunday with good weather: Brewery from around 2 till 8ish. You can drink out on the wharf and they have a band usually out there. Then most will head to King St after that. Ross..whats the trance you're talking about at hunter valley brewery?..Like Steve Hill and Masif etc? Newcastle don't have enough trance gigs ![]()

yeeeah, all the steve hill stuff, as well as a whole bunch of hardstyle apparently. i went there a couple of times, but not anymore.
there was a couple of guys putting on cambridge gigs, that were trance / tech for the first coupe of hours, even got offered stoneface & terminal, but couldnt get the venue. They arent putting gigs on now tho, because there was too many people trying to get gigs going, along with HVB steamrolling it by putting gigs on the same night. plus, the newer guys putting on gigs were just doing hardstyle start to finish, so the majority of the crowds stopped bothering to come, and any new crowds get scared off from the word go. |

If you're looking for share accomodation you're best bet if you're looking to have a lease of your own is to go through the real estate agents. That way you have your own lease for a room in a house and you share the house with the rest. If you're looking just to move in with people that already have a lease give
http://offcampusaccommodation.newcas...cedSearch.aspx a go. I recommend going through real estate because having a lease to your own room means your not going to have to worry bout getting kicked out by douchbag housemates if you don't get along haha. |

Yeah, the uni accomm site is awesome. Found my last two flatmates through there and both have been sick ****s.
Areas to move, would recommend Cooks Hill or Hamilton. Close to restaurants/cafes and train stations that take you out to Maitland. Rent if you're sharing usually wouldn't be more than $150 for something pretty decent.

Trance in Newcastle happens very rarely, all though you may be interested in heading to Fannys of all places this Friday. Just ignore the cage dancers and head into the back room, Amber Savage should be belting out a few hard trance choons. Can't imagine it being too hard though, given Fannys music policy.

The flyer says Trance & NRG, and I know I should take that with a grain of salt I suppose. But given that it is Eye Candy they usually move the House & Electro to the main room and they have her lined up for the back...
I have my fingers crossed anyway. |

Maitland, gah. goodluck mate. One of those small towns that has retards entranched as pillars of the comunity.
My GF grew up in Mount Pleasant and owned a framing store in Maitland... When i go up to party, its usually in the above mentioned places. Crowds can really differ from night to night..

Is it still "illegal" to serve shots in Newcastle's pubs & clubs?

stupid statement is stupid. thats like saying: "Future Music Festival is on this weekend and we have buses from Newcastle station going so this weekend in Newcastle is going to be huge! IF anyone from Newcastle decides to go Subsonic (which they wont cuz the people are jaded and only go to festivals with more advertising), then the weekend will be quiet cuz they will all be there. and re:shots. there are certain pubs/clubs in Newcastle (as in Suburb), Hamilton, Cooks Hill, Merewether maybe, umm Mayfield maybe, and Maitland, they are restricted to single shot drinks and no straight shots or bombs. However pubs in like, Broadmeadow, Adamstown, Lambton etc etc, are allowed to serve shots.

Mayfield deserves to have prohibition. |

garious: i said maybe. however any pub can refuse to serve shots regardless of if they are allowed or not. the pub i'm at is allowed to, however we choose not to. even more the reason nt to for a 21st.
drater: valid point. and howzitgarn: very true.
