"reformed troll" lol

Is there a "trolls anonymous"?

"Hi my name's Gary and I'm a troll"
"Hi Gary" (All)
"It's been 2 weeks since I posted deliberately provocative statements on an internet forum"
*round of applause*
"Thanks....I almost buckled last night, this woman posted up that she felt Rudd was a great PM, it was such a purile post I desperately wanted to flame her....but I shut the window down and concentrated on masturbating furiously to Japanses vomit porn"
*another round of applause coupled with grunts of understanding*

I thought the saddest thing about the "reformed troll" was that he actually got his kicks out of trolling. Can't be a very smart nor mature cookie.

I think it's funny how he talks about "levels" of trolling.

Does ITM have any level 5 trolls?

Yes.

The thing with trolling is that it's not always malicious. It's just about getting a reaction. The less intelligent trolls do this by trying to upset people. The really good ones... like the dude says, you're never really sure if they're trolling or not.

See, I will still occassionally bite troll bait, particularly on some issues, not to feed to troll, but to communicate to others who might agree with the troll. The troll, I couldn't care less.

I eat trolls for brekki: ugly as sin, but very tastey when poached in a light chicken broth. Obviously they should be skinned and aged for 28 days, that goes without saying.

You'd make level 1 trolls feel pretty damn smart.

Dude, that means you have reached the stage of Troll Enlightenment. One step more and you reach Troll Transcendence. If you want the secret of how to get there, I can let you know for a fee of $100k. You will also need to start disconnecting from your family and friends in the mean time. It is more than worth it.

But there's a difference between arguing the point with someone who genuinely holds a belief that you disagree with, and feeding a troll. I am very happy to argue the toss with people with whom I disagree for exactly the reason that you have posited.

One of the most obnoxious varieties of trolling (and I'd call it the Dubz variety, for want of a better name, and because Dubz doesn't understand messages communicated with any degree of subtlety, making the direct route unfortunately necessary) is where the troll blunders into a discussion about which it knows less than nothing and disrupts the conversation with opinions it can't or won't defend (because the troll doesn't know enough about the subject to understand how to defend those opinions if they were genuinely held).

Sometimes the troll will seek to make a virtue of its ignorance, and nearly always, the troll will at some point bleat about freedom of speech, as if, "freedom of speech" and "freedom to be a charmless little blowhard" were identical concepts.

I don't think I've ever heard any of the quality trolls on here ever bleat about freedom of speech.

Wow i've got a whole variety named after me! Is there some sort of prize involved?

I can think of a few descriptions of the "L-A" variety of mod. Also a few regarding "L-A" style people in general.

But I feel that, unlike L-A, petty insults have no place on this forum.

Oh and i'm not a troll, i've asked for you to prove i'm a troll, and you haven't/can't. Poor effort, C minus, see me after class.

At least dubz doesn't try to score semantic wins, like people who endlessly argue with one's use of word three in paragraph two.

I think it depends...

My colleague sent this to Kraft's customer service team:

Quote:
To whom it may concern,

I am writing to express my deepest dismay over the recent changes to the vegemite receptacle, in particular the 235 gram pot.

I have been a keen vegemite consumer since my early days. My good father, god bless his soul, fed me vegemite on a spoon as a child as I fell foul of my mothers teat, to supplement the fresh sheeps milk from our farm. This continued in my early years until I graduated to toasts, breads and other savories.

When I was shipped off to war in my teenage years, all that kept me fresh and lubricated was my lode of vegemite. The boys would flock in the mornings when I shared a sample of the vegemite to all who would taste, before lurching forth to fight the vicious hun.

Forwarding to now I continued to eat vegemite throughout my years. Though my eyes are failing and my fingers are knarled I still yearn for that morning time when I can paste this finest of mites on my breakfast.

I am saddened to see that the cover of this newest vegemite vessel has been changed to a more smooth camber, much smoother than before. Whilst my fingers would still be tenacious enough to pull the trigger of a rifle so help me god, this new vegemite container has caused me no end of distress. Even the makeshift jar opener I fashioned in the war from stovepipe munitions is of no use against this slick design. I have had to resort to breaking the top of this container against a brick, which sullies the contents and renders it quick to spoil.

All I can hope in these last days of mine is that somehow you will see it in your cold heart that these things should not be trifled with, and that you return this magnificent yeasty extract and its magnum to its former glory.

Sincerely,
Phillip Vid II

No it was written with the specific aim of trolling. (This was from a guy with extensive hacking and USENET trolling experience).

A troll aims to have pleasure at your expense. They are people who pretend to be someone that they are not - they create personae that you think are real, but they know is fictitious.

I don't think you are a troll dubz... mentally challenged obnoxious racist whinging pommie git chav who tries to be funny but fails miserably, sort of a try hard buffed arrogance without the buff with nothing better to do than post kiddy comments on this forum all day... but not really a troll

Now that's very unfair, I am NOT a chav.

The rest is probably quite accurate.

I think i'm quite funny...well....people laugh a lot when i'm around and....hmm...actually come to think of it....bugger...

oh so you're like that one person at the party that everyone thinks is a tosser and wishes would just go the fuck away but is sort of funny to laugh at in a sad kind of way because in reality you're not really very socially adept and have no friends and so its ironic because people like you (well not really you in particular, but your kind) because it makes them feel better about themselves because everyone is self conscious in some way or another and they're just happy that everyone at the party is laughing at your misfortune instead of theirs???????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????

i honestly dont see the problem with trolling. as long as it's not malicous of course. people take things too seriously on the internet sometimes. just got to relax. life is a calypso mon

Yeah I guess I could be that guy, although thanks to my bullet-proof ego and the fact no-one has ever mentioned this to me (well, noone who matters to me, i.e not people who spend their time on the politics section of a clubbing website) I spend my time in what I can only call blissful ignorance.

that's called toying with the inner you, and it is so last century buddy, but over time you'll get bored with anonymously abusing the good faith of others when you realise it doesn't actually make you feel any better about yourself.

No I think it's called picking and choosing whose opinion I value. And it's a very "in" thing. Haven't you read "Self Worth Monthly" magazine recently?

Plus i'm hardly anonymous, I know a fair number of the people on this forum and can be found stumbling around Sydney establishments most weekends. If you'd like a list of my upcoming social events so we can catch up for a beer and you no longer feel like i'm hiding behind a picture of a cartoon vampire duck then please let me know.

I always pictured Dubz closer to the billy goats gruff than the troll.

If you remember the story, the goats trolled the troll that lived under the bridge and they all made it to the meadow for lunch

Of course in the modern version they just claim asylum over the river and the troll isn't allowed to touch them for fear of being arrested for breaching their human (goat) rights.

I quite like the correlation you infer there Dubz, I can almost see the line you draw between the two vessels of ITM and the Oceanic Viking.

There is no such thing as a troll, it's called posting in the internet.
