I also think your a **** for bringing this up in a thread about a sale on vinyl at a cool recordstore.
Also, I have lurked for a while and checked out a mix of yours... total fest ... unlike some quite good ones I have heard in peoples signatures.I don't who Ian is either, I'm not some part of your homo clique (saw a pic of you in the picture thread). Please stop ruining this thread, like you do with pretty much every thread you post in. |

Guys,
While this banter is entertaining and in fact may aid the Recordstores cause in keeping the thread up the charts, the argument is pointless. There are much better turntables on the market than Technics anyway and the vinyl market has now consolidated to a level of equilibrium, meaning that it wont ever die. I for one still spend hundreds of dollars a week on vinyl and will for the rest of my life. There are many others like me. Vinyl (and vinyl retailers like the Recordstore) Rulz ok?

Really??? I appreciate your opinion but I think you are kidding yourself. Does the recordstore have a website and if so, will the sale be applicable to online sales. Cheers.

For pure sound quality there are many dozens of options, with some turntables costing close to $100k Here are a few dozen options that are all far far far better than Technics- http://www.sydneyhificastlehill.com....E85CC85667B%2F For DJ applications I have found the best to be the Stanton STR8-150 (I have 2 x 1200's, 2 x 1210's and an STR8-150). MUCH higher torque, better trackability (I am very heavy handed so this is great for me) and it even has a digital out option with key lock. The only downside is that the straight tone-arm is shorter than technics meaning that all standard record markings don't work. I use different coloured stickers for the Stanton markings to solve this issue. The Stanton is also much heavier meaning that there is less chance of vibration impacting the sound quality in a club or loud studio situation. I believe that the Stanton is also quite a bit cheaper... Stanton 1 - Technics 0 Also, yes the Recordstore does have a website but the discount is for in-store purchases, so get in there and get digging! (Actually, no, don't. More for me :-)

I have used these stantons you speak of and I still prefer a well serviced 1200 of any age.
I understand what your saying about more power and torque but I just don't like them as much as the 1200, especially a mkII or higher. I remember when people were trying to yammer on about vestax decks, their higher specs and weight. I thought 'wow cool', gave them a good go at a couple of mates places, but they still had nothing on a 1200. Same thing with the stantons. For the record I don't' really scratch and just want something I feel comfortable mixing on (maybe Im just so comfortable on 1200s I just dont like anything else, blinding me to something perhaps better, who knows). Is the record store still in the same place? Last edited by KillaKowalski : 30-Nov-09 at 08:13am. |

just to set the record straight, just like every other time this fucking retarded rumour has come up, it's fucking bogus. technics will continue making the 1200s, as people ARE still buying them. probably more so than in the past, what with systems like serato and traktor pwning the market lately. back on topic, fucking sweet as. wish i could've made it in on saturday, will be in during the week, just hope all the good shit hasn't been nabbed yet ![]()

We'll have to agree to disagree.
i hear what you are saying about sound quality. There is no doubt that technics are not at the top of the game in that respect but all of the turntables that are on that website are not designed for dj use, which is what i was referring to. The mk5g's are the best club turntable going around at the moment imo.

![]() No I'm not a Rep and I in fact listed the reasons why I think they are superior. Are you able to articulate or is 'piece of shit' all you are able to muster? Why do you think they are a piece of shit and in what way are Technics better?

Whatever - you Stanton fanbois can enjoy yourselves... while I don't think they're the world's worst decks (and I do think that including 680HPs in the pack is a nice deal) I'm certainly not feeling any drive to replace my technics and I never felt the want to buy Stantons. The 'features' don't appeal to me at all, and the need for more torque is a complete myth, particularly given that 95% of the club setups you play at will be technics. You'd only need more torque/grip if you're a fucking bafoon with your grip. Just a tip... Use a little less force when you're cueing up a record; Your needles and records will like you for it as well. I'll agree that there are a great many better turntables than the technics when it comes to sound, but if you're talking about a combination of sound, affordability, feel, familiarity ('club standard'), looks, reliability, access to replacement parts and ease of repair the Technics are a simple choice. You don't have the finickiness of belts, but you also can't get the motor (and noise associated) away from the platter. Honestly, both the Stantons and Technics are built with a lot of compromises to make them fit a certain price range. Replacing the tonearm, feet and cartridge for more esoteric (and far more pricey options) will yield better results, but again, none of the points that you (Bcool) attempted to make were regarding sound quality, were they? Fuck it, I'm off to bed.
