yeh dude i was having the same porblems just the other day.

i adjusted the mic output levels on my laptop and it seemed to have given no distortion whats so ever.

but then i seemed to have got myself in a bit of a dilemma.

i saved my audio file as an mp3 because it wouldnt save it as a wav file ( it said the file was to big 2.3gb) .

now i tryed to open the file up today and it says that the file format plugin was not properly initilized.

wtf does that mean and why cant i reopen my file. i got about 1hours worth of mixing that im trying desperately to open.

by the way i recorded mine in mono and 16 bit at 44 100 hz
can anyone help please

Something's not right here.

"Mic output" --> Why are you using a MICROPHONE and what is it coming OUT of? Think about which directions the audio is traveling (In or Out), and I take it you're using a line level audio connection into an input designed to accept line level sources?

Secondly, do you know what mono is? Why would you record stereo music in mono?

Lastly, there's something catastrophically wrong with your settings. An hour of stereo music recorded in WAV 16bit/44.1k would be around 600MB, and half that for mono. You've got 2300MB? What file format did you go with? Did you record video at the same time?

As for the original poster, are your levels in the mixer still looking OK despite switching sources?

Just on this point, do any laptops come with line in inputs these days? High end models maybe?

Every one I see these days has a mic in only.
I've seen everything imaginable
Pass before these eyes
I've had everything that's tangible
Honey you'd be suprised
I'm a sexual innuendo
In this burned out paradise
If you turn me on to anything
You better turn me on tonight

Typically the input is software-switchable between mic/line.

If it were limited to mic only, then expect a truckload of distortion from a mixer.

Some laptops (eg. Apple Mac Book Pro) will also allow a digital (optical S/PDIF) connection via the same 3.5mm sockets.

My Asus has a seperate line in port, and it's not a particularly upmarket model either.

yeh their sweet, just touching the red on both. Ive got the booth/monitor output of my mixer connected to a normal cable connected into the microphone input of the back of my pc.

Mind you the level is at half a notch, any higher and it sounds like complete shit.
