microphone - connect to dj gear
alright i bought this dodgy microphone from 2 dollar shop.. it plugs into the headphones jack on my mixer (so you know what plug it is)

ive tried plugging it into the mic input on the amp on the back of my speakers yet doesnt do anything..

do i have to get the adapter to connect it to the mic jack on the mixer to get it to work ?
or should it work by plugging it straight into the amp.. ?

nah nah nah, that mic jack is for inserting bacon. originally they were going to call it the bacon jack but didn't want to deter jewish dj's or dj's who have converted to islam n ting. initially its purpose was to store champagne ham but ultimately bacon was the preferred format.
if you're out of bacon you can use leg ham, it works almost as well.

it depends on the type of bacon you're working with. some people experience crackle with fatty bacon strips and prefer to go rindless. if none of this works perhaps refer to the bacon section in your user manual.

nah, in all seriousness, just click here.

So you say the mic fits into your headphone socket. Which means the mic has a 1/4" plug, or your headphone socket is 3.5mm (unusual). Clarify this and we shall continue.

What sort of mixer?

I don't think so. He already said the mic plugged into his headphone jack. So either his mic is 1/4", or his headphone jack is 3.5mm. Either way the adaptor is no help. And he needs to plug into an XLR anyway.

Seddar, this is 3.5mm:

This is 1/4":

What's your mic got?

I'm three seconds from facepalming here. One step at a time. Are you telling me that the mic has a 1/4" jack?

Ok. You need one of these: http://snurl.com/bqw8z [cgi_ebay_com_au]

Can't answer your powered speaker question without asking more questions, and OH LOOK IS THAT THE TIME? Stick with running the mic into the mixer. Buy that thing.

No chance. I usually get things like that from www.swamp.net.au, but they don't have them either.

You'll have to walk into a pro audio shop to find one, at which point they will say, "why are you about to spend $10 (or more) on an obscure adaptor to plug in a $2 mic? Buy our bottom of the line $80 mic that has a fucking XLR on it."

And they'd be right. Which is why online is best.

Probably about a tenth of the quality. 10% at most.

I've got a stupid microphone so I'll post here instead of posting a new thread.

I have a Shure PG-58 mic plugged into a Xone92 with the aim of recording sound to my laptop through the mixer. It's all good and I can hear it fine through the monitors but when I have my RCA to 3.5mm converter running from the Record Out to my laptop, I couldn't hear anything. I know everything is set up properly because this is how I've been recording my synths and piano (I know - shit way to do it but I can't afford the Audio Interface I want just yet) And when screaming into it while recording I noticed that sound was coming through but it was VERY VERY quiet - almost didn't even register a wave.

Is this because I'm not using a mic pre-amp?

Flow goes:
Microphone > Xone92 record out > RCA to 3.5mm w/ground loop isolator >Macbook Pro Line Input - recording with Ableton.

Keeping in mind that using the same setup I've successfully recorded audio from other sources - just can't get Mic to be loud enough when recording - but it is coming through the mixer and monitors at a good level (0db on mixer)

Sounds odd. Have you tried the mic on both channels 1 & 2? And other stuff via line input on the same channels?

Yeh - as I said, I've had a synth (SH-32) and stage piano run through the same inputs (1 & 2 and switching them around) through 1/4" mono and they work perfectly fine. I can hear them through monitors and record properly. But when I switch to Mic through XLR (making sure I switch the input mode to Mic) I can hear through monitors fine - but it records so low it almost doesn't register.

You didn't specifically say that the other gear had run through those channels, which is why I asked.

Answer: http://www.xone.co.uk/forum/forum_po...?TID=1213&PN=2

Sounds like a mic preamp will solve it for you.

Ah yeh sorry - should have specified.

Thanks for the link - I guess it's time to bite the bullet and buy a sound card then. Hope the stimulus package comes through....
