Buying Ableton
Have decided to take the plunge and buy Ableton - have had a play around on the demo version and watched the tutorials etc to learn all about it. i dont want to get any other programs.

my first thought was where do i buy it from - ableton.com.au only sells software upgrades and merch.

ableton.com has the different products for sale in both hard copy and download version - I want to get Live 7 with the Essential Instruments Collection 2 which is US$499 (hard copy box) - which gets shipped.
I realise the download version is cheaper but I am stumped and scared as to how Im going to download a 15 gig program - it would take weeks on my internet and i would use up all my download anyway. i think i would prefer to pay a little more and get the box than a download link.

is this the best and cheapest way to buy? do people have the hard copy box or have they just downloaded it?
Is the essential instruments 2 collection worth getting? it sounds like it would be a huge time saver........

and boy do i wish I had bought this 3 months ago when the AUS dollar about 30% higher!

if ur download from Ableton, you're only downloading the program itself (somethign like 250mb) . If you want essnetial instruments you need to buyt eh boxed version which comes with a dvd. If you look at the abelton site, even under 'Shop', its listed as

"Essential Instrument Collection 2
more info...

Delivered via DVD"

If you want it delivered try

http://www.spankrecords.com.au/stock...l.asp?id=37483 - its the same price now as it was 3 months ago too lol

I got the boxed version - it is handy having the printed manual as a reference tool - downloading a PDF would be a pain.

much cheaper to buy if you are a student - US$499 as opposed to US$799 for Ableton Live suite boxed version

Are you going to be buying any hardware any time soon?

Some midi keyboards/controllers come with full versions of live. you can then upgrade and get the Instrument collection.

It works out to be a little cheaper if you are also getting hardware.

Instead of creating a new thread I might as well ask it here,

I'm looking at getting a M-Audio trigger finger, which comes with live lite.

Would I be best to play around with lite for a bit first or jump straight into Live 7?

When purchasing Live 7 I see on retailer's sites they have "Ableton Live Lite to Live 7 Upgrade" and "Ableton Live 7 Software", if I get the trigger finger w/ live lite, would I just be able to buy the upgrade (saving about $300) rather than the "Ableton Live 7 Software"?
Cheers guys.
