Already made comments in the tech news thread, but yeah I love the look of it, and the work-flow seems really well thought out.

I look forward to giving it a go.

Its very clean, unlike everything else Microsoft makes, which is good. I guess this is based off the Zune interface like Windows mobile?

One thing I don't like is 'Photo Feedr'.

For some reason I'm okay with stupid missing letters in titles of social web sites (or I let them slide), but I feel that the OS itself should be a little more mature and not jump on bandwagons with crap like that.

Windows Phone 7 = Zune interface which I mentioned

But yeh, Xbox, well the last 2 iterations, not necessarily the blades one it shipped with are along the lines of this aswell, tiiiiiiles.

Lols at them trying to sell the ability to use touchscreens with it by showing a bunch of useless widgets but as soon as they load Office it is still menu driven.

stuck it on the laptop test hdd. Laptop doesn't have a video driver so everything looks fuzzy, but other than that i must say i'm a little impressed with win8. They've certainly done a lot to push a consistent UI across apps & the whole experience is very smooth & pleasant to look at.

Keen to see what the final release is like. It might even be quite usable on a desktop though the new "start menu" if you can call it that is quite shit for a desktop interface. Definitely a touchscreen thing

Posting from Windows 8.

First impression - wow.

This thing flies, and I'm running it in a VM. Can't wait to see what this is like as a standalone install. Extremely intuitive, they've done very well to predict what users what to do when, there's already been several instances where I've gone to do something and Win8 has already started doing it for me. Amazing!

Explorer is still there and the rumours are true, the ribbon does exist there, but it is collapsible, plus it adds a lot of handy features right there for managing content.

Still trying out all the apps but so far the integration between them is fantastic. It's quite the game-changer this.

Still can't get over how fast and fluid everything is.

Having read reviews on this, I'm quite glad I haven't bought a new computer recently, now I might be looking to get a PC later in the year/early 2013.

Looks awesome.

It's the little things.

Adding a Windows account, twitter and gmail means I can then access them from all over the shop. I was in IE and saw an image I wanted to email to someone, right click on the image then the charms bar pops up so figured I'd try clicking share, took me to the email app, went to type in the individual's name and it autocompleted it for me (it auto-populates your 'people' app with contacts from twitter, gmail, hotmail etc, and you use these details depending on the context). The whole process was very quick, I'm talking seconds before I was back doing what I was doing before.

Typing in websites is extremely quick in IE as well, it autofills with an excellent breakdown of different options. They load up almost instantly. IThere were numerous times that it was predicting the website I wanted after only a few key presses (I wonder if it pulls data from some of the services I've added?)

Search is figgin awesome, you can search in context, meaning if you're in Apps search there, first it will search apps and give you those results, but then you have the option of searching other things like media, documents, people, the web. Basically it doesn't matter where you search because you can use it in or out of context.

App switching it quite fun as well, there are a number of ways to do it using traditional and non-traditional, but from the apps I tested they all integrated quite well. I can see SkyDrive being a big thing too. Accessing photos I had online was as seamless as browsing a local folder.

Those are just some things I can think off the top of my head, it's kinda overwhelming at first but after a short amount of time everything feels very natural.

If I were to nitpick, 95 got better as the hardware caught up.

It did introduce the start bar.

You could also say that Vista got better after SP1, but the thing that held it back was OEMs installing it on inferior hardware.

Vistas brand name was dead and buried by SP1. When that happens, you cut your loses and run to your next product.

vista was missing so much that made w7 great, aside from desktop search it was a pretty underwhelming upgrade from xp.

95 brought lots of stuff to the table, multi tasking that sort of worked, the beginning of 3d graphics hardware acceleration as we know it today, the start bar..

..but then again it also brought the windows registry

Was considering ditching my current copy of win 8 to run this.

Off my pc, the only things i really do are watch tv/movies, use ps3 media server to stream from my pc to ps3 and use newsgroups for my downloads.

It's a pretty old pc. Dual Core 1.8ghz with 3gb ram, onboard graphics and a 40gb internal/3TB external.

Would it be worth making the switch or am i likely to find 7 better, being an older machine?

Win 7 runs okay on here.

I'm on 64bit win 7,

Dual Core 1.8ghz with 3gb ram, onboard graphics and a 40gb internal/3TB external.

Really not having any issues with win 7 as such, was just curious to try out 8, but dont have the hdd space to dual boot

the stuff about IE. sounds like they took the ideas directly from chrome. im all for it being good and all, but its not anything new.
the tight integration between everything sounds awesome though

So i installed win 8 and i don't know if its just me, but it's made the resolution of everything on my pc huge. It's almost like it's expecting me to be running this on a 32" plus monitor and my 24" widescreen just isnt big enough
