yeah it sure is!

although to be honest I am not too upset, I am going to see 4 people - Shpongle, tsuyoshi, astrix and raja ram - and none of them clash. would love to see ghost rider - will probably see him over ace. I like ace but seen him quite a few times and a bit tired of his sound at the moment.

Raja absolutely did my head in at Freedom Festival this year. It's amazing how sometimes it's cheesy and fun and other times you just want him to fuck off, but this year was very much the latter for me.
Having already endured Talamasca and Vibe Tribe I was waiting for Hallucinogen to come on next, it was the one day of the festival where it got super hot, and Raja actually played the whole 90mins rather than stopping early like the other times I've seen him. So, so painful. When Hallucinogen then put in a pretty naff showing (it just doesn't work as well at lunchtime) I was heaps bummed.

Thank god Shane Gobi managed to immediately save the day bring on Rainbow

Boris Brejcha -> Perfect Stranger will probably be the best 3hrs at Eartcore I reckon. I've told my more doof-minded mates to go in open minded.

Shane Gobi! another name I cant wait for this summer.

yeah raja ram will definitely be cheesy, glad he is playing last so that if I can't be bothered I can head home a bit early. looking forward to tsuyoshi the most! will definitely check out Perfect Stranger once again - although I am a bit like your doof-minded mates

i am looking forward to earthcore but not expecting the world, rainbow i think will be the doof of the summer for me, although lost the plot was amazing - great weather, great music and a great crowd! i sense the crowd at earthcore is going to be a bit nasty times - talked to a lot of people who feel there is going to be a decent amount of people going just to get fucked up because its a doof.

DJ Thatha, Dickster, Yotopia and Sonic Species the highlight of that Maitreya lineup. I reckon the Sunday will be stronger at Rainbow this year.

New from Outsiders: https://soundcloud.com/tiprecords/in...onversation-ep
Solid enough, track 2 would probably sound wicked on a big rig.

Haven't listened to this but Daksinamurti was pretty wicked when I saw him live. Pretty twisted.

Outsiders stuff is like Ital's in the sense that whilst it isn't ground breaking by any means, it's very well produced and would be fun as fuck live.

Anyone in Melbourne who rates psychedelic trance should be seeing Scorb next week. He absolutely tore New Psycle apart, best set in that style I've seen all year. An absolute weapon.

I've made it my mission for 2014 (and beyond?) to really push the sound of new goa. It's starting to build really steadily now, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the next big trend in a few years after this wave of dark psy variants washes over.

I've found myself enjoying it less than I used to lately...

I need to experience a good solid session of it live to 'get it' I think.

i would love to see more goa played at australian doofs - far too little is played, almost none at times which is really quite sad. always too much prog psy, there is only so much I can handle

It's just about promoters taking risks. On top of the music being a little risky, the names themselves just won't sell tickets which is the main risk.
Much like goa there's a heap of dark-but-not-that dark stuff which I think would go down a treat here but festivals shy away from it. Outside of Farebi and a few others, everything I see on the dark side here is the Russian sound, which is good to see but there's a lot more to dark psy than that.

The closest we've had to proper goa in recent years is Etnica at the Eclipse (I was asleep so don't know how that went) and Young Kim at Maitreya last year. Who was excellent but it wasn't outright proper goa, it was that hybrid stuff with modern psy basslines which I'm not 100% sold on.
But it was drenched in acid and it got a strong enough reception that I'm sure someone taking a punt on some of the more accessible modern goa names would get a decent response.

There is some killer stuff coming out on labels like Timewarp and Spacedock that isn't too intense that would do the business here.

Let alone the big guns, this video could just as easily be RSF at 5am IMO:

That would be a killer sunrise!

Agree with you about dark psy here mongoose, I am a massive fan of twilight but it's rare to hear it in Vic - although looking forward to return to kamp krusty - replicant records are bringing out a few South African djs which should be good. I think the dark forest sound also not played enough here either. I just rely on ektoplazm haha.

Been listening to filteria and mind sphere a lot lately (filteria after your advice) and would love to see either in aus next season

Procrastinated for weeks packing my house down.
Took a day off work, put this on https://soundcloud.com/luca-bertolet...ol-goa-set-6-2 and have now got 2/3 of it done amongst a plethora of lounge-room dance moves.
