I just can't see him improving your first vi.

That's the thing, his best position is occupied by Silva and to be fair Sterling isn't anywhere near his quality. So you have to surmise that it means he's competing with Nasri for a place out wide and if that's the case it's just a sidegrade with age on his side. Unless the plan is to move Nasri to CM to replace Milner/Lampard/Fernandinho, but given how they've been making enquiries for Delph and Wilshere to fill that role I'm pretty sure it means Nasri's goose is cooked.

What it does offer us is a better backup #10 option when Silva's hamstring goes like it usually does every November and February.

Apparently Vidal is close to signing for Bayern, with Juve bringing in Draxler as replacement.

Wenger must be loving that one.

I really don't see Sterling as a #10, maybe for a club around history/Everton level, definately not top 4.
He's a lightweight wide player for me who's gonna get found out when playing with the big boys. He's SWP/pienaar/pennant level for me.

It's alright we're waiting for striker dominoes to start.
Although I would like Draxler, be interesting how much he goes for. He has said before that's it's either Germany or England for him, no where else.

Sterling still hasn't found his best position - lets not forget he is 20. He could still be playing for you in 2027!

I see him as a wide forward personally, just needs to add that final product to his game which he still has plenty of time to do.

If he's as good as he could be he'll be in Spain long before then. If he's not he'll be wherever the hell SWP is. I don't think there is too much middle ground with players of his type. It really is easy to forget how damn young he is.

Could have chucked this in the aleague thread but as it's more premier league player related... Lallana's stepover prior to his finish against Brisbane was real classy. I've actually never seen that stepover variation work so well and performed so smooth. The commentary questioned whether he meant it but in my view he definitely did.

Indeed, and that's why I say that Nasri may be in trouble... That's where he spent most of last season playing. Someone mentioned Navas but he only really starts when we play 4 or 5 across the midfield in a classic 4-4-2 or a 4-5-1 (mostly in Europe or against teams like Chelsea that flood the midfield). Other than that, he starts on the bench more often than not.

I think we'll be lining up something like this at the start of the season:

-----------------------Hart
Zabaletta---Kompany----Mangala----Clichy
--------------Delph----------Toure
------------------------Silva
-------Bony---------Aguero--------Sterling

Only variations on that I can think of is if Bony is still unfit by the time the season kicks off (apparently he's not on the tour because he gained too much weight on holidays).

id assume Bony would be the front man and Aguero would drift wider - interchanging with Sterling and Silva as a three?

Can't see Bony as anywhere but central to be honest.

I'd agree with you but just guessing that as Dzeko often starts on the right as well. It's just on paper really, they drift in and out of each others places as they please.

good move for all 3 parties.

Man we're clearing out some players this summer..........
Diaby, Podolski, Sonogoal, Szesney so far. Campbell and Flamini next.

Now we just wait to see who comes available.

That's not what he means - di maria moving to PSG would start the big money moves chain reaction.

West Ham would make sense because of Bilic. The kid has talent and a bit of time in the PL could do wonders for him like it did for Modric. Halilovic is a bit of a **** though so would be good to have Bilic there to smack him around a bit.

Barca B got relegated so unless he's all of a sudden going to get a tonne of games in the main team, his development could be stifled. They should loan him out though, not sell. I watched him play, ironically, at Upton Park last year in a friendly against Argentina and he looked like he had a tonne of potential.

You're my pick for the biggest movers in the table this year. I think you'll comfortably finish somewhere in the lower top half.

Balotelli to sign for Bologna... What a fall from grace, he had the world at his fingertips. From playing at the top and in the Champions League to playing for a promoted team and relegation favourite.

My Anelka 2.0 prediction rings loud. Only one or two more seasons before he's at West Brom... or in China.

It's a fair point. The only thing I have really ever seen in Telli is raw potential, but he is far from the finished product and at this point it doesn't look like he will ever be the finished product. Actually looks like he cbf being the finished product.

Yeah, that's the most frustrating part of all. He's proven he's capable of being a world class player but he only does so when he's pushed and has a point to prove (i.e. England/Italy WC game).

He's going to be one of those players who realises one day that he wasted the peak of his career with no effort and bad choices -- but by then it will be too late to do anything about it. But he's probably sitting there now thinking who cares, I'm 24, absolutely loaded, banging models, I already have 4 league winners medals and a CL winners medal so what does it matter.

I'll read his book after his career finishes -- it will be brilliant.

Anelka actually made it back to a big club though. Plus he wasn't that bad when he was at City, Bolton, that club in Turkey I forget the name of.

It's hard to imagine Balotelli making that same jump back

For sure -- and I guess that's a bit of my point. Anelka's skill was never in doubt on the pitch, it was his attitude off it. By all reports Balotelli is loved by all of his teammates, but his attitude on the pitch massively lets him down. Two sides of a player-based problem.

Anelka started out with all the talent in the world, drifted between big clubs alienating the media, managers, fans or teammates, spent the peak of his career playing in the lower mid-table and Turkey before, around the time he turned 30, he realised his playing career was almost up and had a good crack at Chelsea before drifting around for the rest of his career. That's kind of how I see Telli going, which is such a shame. With the right motivation he could lead the line at any number of top European teams.

I have never rated him but I'm guessing that is due to not seeing enough of him outside of his time in the prem.. because I just watched this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVrr2-xbZWs) and far out there are some ridiculous clips in that, he could dribble, pass, shoot, the touch and technique was there. Where was all this recently for liverpool or city?
