Jehovah's Witness Loses Right to Refuse Blood Transfusion

This is a rather interesting case. The kid doesn't want to die, but by refusing blood transfusions, in all likelihood he will. So, the court has decided that blood transfusions will be given if needed: a clear sign of the court's support of the sanctity of life. How would those who support euthanasia respond I wonder?

I'm not sure of the basis of your question.

The court has denied a right of the patient and imposed its own opinion over that of the patient. Which is completely inline with current euthanasia laws.

Yet, religion is essentially on the side of the "right to death" side this time. That seemed like a strange inversion to me.

They're not on the side of the right to death, they've just interpreted Old Testament dietary laws in an even more retarded way than thought possible.

Maybe in your befuddled mind, most rational people would perceive intent as the factor. There is no intent to die in the case of the Jehovah's Witness patient.

Not sure I agree with you, but I'm not discussing religion, I'm discussing the law.

The law consistently is on the side of doing everything reasonably practicable to ensure preservation of life.

Here is the full decision:

http://www.caselaw.nsw.gov.au/action...?jgmtid=164138

The key part is that because X is under 18, the court has a general jurisdiction (the "parens patriae jurisdction") to make orders for the protection of children. The court must act in the best interests of the child and although that will require a consideration of the wishes of the child (with the weight given to those wishes depending on the age of the child), the result need not be in accordance with those wishes.
But we're fools if we sit back and stare at the ground

If we want our place in history, we can't let the frustration

Nothing to do with Euthanasia.

As I understand it if the kid was over 18 the courts would NOT have force a blood transfusion and he would die.

Reason: forgot to add the important word NOT

Should be illegal for people to teach religion to anyone under the age of 18 imo.
Broadband speeds will always be lower under a Coalition Government.

Damn, should be any age, imo.

We had to stand back and watch my uncle die for this very reason. Fucking religion.

I don't know how you managed to extract the exact opposite of the point I was trying to make, but well done.

Not sure either, must have had something to do with "having to watch your uncle die". I thought this meant that you wished he could have ended his life. What did you mean by that statement?

If I had to have a really wild, stab in the dark guess, I'd say his uncle was a JV who refused blood transfusions.

I like this crazy bat shit interpretation of refusing medical care the JWs have and I think it should apply to all christians. It will thin out the ranks of psychos nicely.
After all, apparently God has a plan for us all doesn't he? If you die it's because God wants you dead.

Comprehension is generally part of the reading curriculum, though obviously not where you're from.

I went to a "Comprehensive" school in the UK

Amazingly, 50% of the students couldn't comprehend simple sentences such as "I do not enjoy the sensation of your fist smashing into my face" or "ow ow stop it, that hurts" or the classic "fuck off and die"
Never mind the bollocks
