Such a shame the Sharks didn't get the win. That would have been a really lovely story for Rugby League

Yeah I was wishing them on in my car. Really wanted them to win. I've always had a soft spot for them even though jdoodle makes it incredibly difficult to do so

Why would it?

The Sharks Win Nufty Tournament.

What a lovely headline that is. When they win the comp, the actual comp, for the very first time, that will be a story for League. A real story.

NRL 2015: 0 days since last off-field incident.

Nines was a good bit of fun, especially the two biggest hits of the weekend coming in the women's games. Not sure how much to read into the form line but Cornish and Waqa looked good for the Raiders so at least that's something.

That tone will change pretty quickly after Waqa throws a few hospital passes and drops some easy bombs. Bloke is a machine when he's on but he's so damn error prone.

Man I can't believe we managed to offload him to you guys I doubt he'd be 4th choice winger for us now, especially after what Solomon Kata showed in the Nines.

Couple of years at Keebra Park will be good for his Queensland Origin prospects as well.

$3M deal being tabled to DCE from the Titans - Can't see how Manly keep them both... hell, I'm worried how Manly are going to keep one!

Also some bullshit story doing the rounds about Brad Arthur coming back to Manly. Not going to happen.

^not to put the mockers on Manly but I kinda hope the DCE deal happens just because the Titans desperately need something to boost their stocks. Ghey look destined to be yet another Gold Coast failure otherwise.

They need to fix the parking debacle so people actually start attending the games again. Having to wait 1hr in the parking lot before you can leave is a joke.

^ive heard their ticket prices are a problem too, because of the costs of using the stadium?
But what would really help would be Channel Nine giving an equal share of the Friday night FTA games to the Titans compared to the Broncos, the Broncos get games every Friday to cater to the Qld market but the Titans get ignored.

it's not the NRL's fault carty and searle signed zillman to a 5 year deal

they've had quality signings over the years but have not been able to translate that into any meaningful success. build a successful club and the fans will come

Would it hurt to give them somewhere near equal exposure to the Broncos in the Qld FTA market though? The Donkeys keep getting a leg up and basically have all of South Queenslsnd market to themselves apart from the Gold Coast itself, the Titans should at least be getting a share of that.

Titans problem is 1/2 the Gold Coast are Kiwi's, 1/4 are from interstate and the other 1/4 are Suns fans.

The Storm have exactly the same issue judging by the demographic at their games, but they've slowly built a loyal following. Shows what success and a bit of help can do.

The vast majority of Rugby League fans on the Gold Coast were already dyed in the wool Broncos fans by the time the Titans got off the ground
It will take 20 - 30 years to turn that around. But as SM said, they need success over a period of time. No one wants to follow a bunch of also rans.

They also need to play out of a stadium that doesn't charge the fucking earth for tickets. Getting a membership seems better value this season with a Legion membership package costing around $230 for the season but that's still $20 per game if they play 11 games at home and that is their cheapest package

What the Titans are offering are flexi packages. 20 tickets, which you can use for any game costs $360. That's a great idea and I am sure a lot of local companies in the area would buy them to hand out to employees or customers as prizes / rewards

The Warriors have finally released an away supporter membership and it's pitiful

$80 for a monthly email from the club with gossip and a ticket to a game in your state. That is hands down the biggest f**king insult I've ever come across.

If anyone takes that up they want their heads read

Spacemonkey - thoughts?

Yeah it's bullshit. Last year they actually had a non-ticketed away membership as well- it was something like $25 for some stickers and a hat. Tons of fans (myself included) were agitation for ticketed away memberships but the options they've come up with are lousy. Why not do a NSW membership that includes most or all of the games in Sydney? I'd buy that if they did.

Edit- the new memberships actually aren;t that terrible if you're planning a trip to Auckland at some point as you get a ticket to a home game as well, plus a hat and some stickers and shit, so you probably get he the $80 worth in that instance. But I've got no plans to be over there during footy season so why the fuck would I pay $80 for one game ticket and a hat I probably won't wear?

$25 bucks for stickers and a hat is way better than $80 for some emails and a ticket to a game

Tickets to a game in Sydney are $30

And to add insult to injury they've taken away the $25 stickers and hat membership. Or to look at it another way they've doubled the price of the stickers and hat to $50, and want me to buy a match ticket for $30 at the same time. ****s.

the First Utilty Super League kicked off last nigh with Widnes and Wigan fighting out the first game of the season

The Rugby League structure has been reorganised and now looks like this

12 Super League teams
12 Championship teams
14 Division One teams

At the end of a 23 round season of Super League 12 home games, 12 away games and one big bash game (assuming neutral ground) the competition splits in three groups. The top eight of Super League play on as Super League. The bottom four of the SL and top four of the Championship form a league and the next eight form a league

The interesting group is the middle one. Teams currently in the Super League have to play eight games and then a play off system of knockouts to get back. top four teams get Super League status and the other four are in the Championship

This could be a very interesting season

^^^ 'Big bash' game is the Magic Weekend right? The whole idea is so batshit crazy it just might work.

Meanwhile, Raiders smashed the Storm in last night's trial and look a shoo-in for the pre-season flag.

was it me, or was that the least intense Charity Shield you've ever seen?
I was seriously underwhelmed

St George showed a couple of nice touches but looked flat once the Duges went off

Widnes v Wigan was far more interesting. They got right proper stuck into each other.
No love lost there.

Pity Carney and Dureau were missing for Catalans.
Their absence turner a cracker of a game into a bit of a foregone conclusion

Pity Fox only showed two Super League games. One more would have been nice.

must be. they must have taken to calling it the big bash cos they're playing in Newcastle
Personally I would have gone with the "Huge Headbut", or the "Canny fucking glassin like". The locals would have lapped that shit up

oh and. trial win against someones third string side proves Ricky Stuart is on the right track aye

buzz is that you?

where's the cover up here? an incident occurred and the NRL integrity unit were informed on the day and kept abreast of proceedings. once the charges were dropped it was an internal matter and the NRL was satisfied with the decision. obviously when things are before the courts etc, you can't go public until due process has been followed. although i haven't seen it, i'm pretty certain there is nothing in the contract between clubs and the NRL that requires them to feed this information to the media?

yes, sutton was dumped as captain due to various reasons (probably including what happened in arizona), but the club never lied about him being dumped.

for some reason the media think that even though the matter has been dealt with they feel the need to go on with it and run their own trial.

He burned straight past a feeble tackle attempt from Premiership-winning wunderkind Luke Keary, it was vintage Benji

Reminded me a bit of the 2005 season when the Wests Tigers conquered all before them
