Fucking dickheads

So on the AFC side of the draw we have the Broncos and Patriots through to the Divisional round with Kansas City v Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers v Cincinnati Bengals

Out of that lot the Broncos are once again the overwhelming favourites - but they were last year and somehow managed to lose out. Will that happen again? Well that all depends if there is a team left with a defence good enough to fuck the Broncos at home. The Patriots are an outside chance, but if the Broncos play at home, I just can't see anyone stopping them.

For the Wild Card Round I'm picking the Colts to upset the Chiefs and the Bengals will be too strong at home against an insipid Colts. How the fuck are the Colts a play off team? Fuck me dead.

CHARGERS TO BRADBURY IT!!!!!

THE Green Bay Packers' playoff game against San Francisco could be one of the coldest in NFL history, rivalling the subzero temperatures of the 1967 Ice Bowl.

Temperatures at Lambeau Field are expected to be minus 2 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 19 Celsius) when the Packers and 49ers kick off.

By the fourth quarter it'll be a bone-chilling minus 7 Fahrenheit (minus 21 Celsius), with wind chills approaching minus -34C, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures at the so-called Ice Bowl in Green Bay, the 1967 NFL championship game in which the Packers beat the Dallas Cowboys to advance to Super Bowl II, got as cold as -25C with a wind chill of -43C.

At temperatures like the ones expected, exposed skin can get frostbitten in minutes and hypothermia can set in.

Players will be huddling around giant heaters on the sidelines but fans will have to take extra safety measures, such as dressing in layers and sipping warm drinks.

The Packers plan to pass out 70,000 hand warmers - packets that fit inside gloves or boots and stay warm for hours. The team will also provide free coffee and hot chocolate.

Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar.

End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar.

Kellie Kunz, a Packers fan from Illinois, will be attending her first Green Bay game.

She said the opportunity to see her team in a critical playoff game was just too good to pass up.

"We'll dress warm - down jacket, long underwear, fleece-lined tights," said Kunz, who grew up in Wisconsin.

"I'm just hoping the game is going to be so exciting we won't even notice the freezing cold."

Lambeau Field has a heating system buried beneath the turf to keep the field from freezing, but it failed during the Ice Bowl, leaving the sod hard as cement.

The system was upgraded in 1997 to include 48km of heating pipes, so players can expect softer landings.

The field should be relatively clear, with no snow in the forecast. The stands had been filled with snow during the week, but the team, continuing a popular tradition, invited members of the public to help shovel it for $10 per hour.

The 1967 game took a major toll on players, said Ed Gruver, the author of a book called The Ice Bowl: The Cold Truth About Football's Most Unforgettable Game.

Packers coach Vince Lombardi didn't let most of his players wear gloves, so several, including quarterback Bart Starr, suffered varying degrees of frostbite, Gruver said.

One Cowboys player had respiratory problems attributed to breathing in so much frigid air, he added, and Dallas quarterback Don Meredith's calls were inarticulate because his lips were frozen.

"Now players wear Under Armour. They have gloves; they have these giant heaters. They'll be OK," Gruver said.

"Back then, most of them just wore long johns."

Fuck that

Andy Dalton sucks. Any half decent QB and they are going to go deep in the playoffs.

Is it something like the past 4 or 5 Superbowl winners have all played the Eagles in the Eagles home opener of the year...guess who played the Eagles this year?

San Diego.

Thinking of chucking a few on them actually.

A little worried about the Chargers this weekend.. they are the only team that *really* beat Denver this year witha game plan... the other teams that beat us , beat us because of our own stupid crazy errors (both the colts and the patriots games were winnable) . I suppose its a good thing - listening to Denver radio - there isn't the same cockiness going into this game as there was going into the Ravens last year (from me included) ... more than a little cautious on this one - teh chargers are looking good at the right time of year.

Almost right - but it wasn't Super Bowl winners or the Eagles.

4 of the past 5 Super Bowls have included teams that featured in the Wild Card weekend
Modelling shows that teams that feature in the Wild Card weekend only have an 8% chance of making it to the big one

The commentary team said that the modelling must surely be wrong - whilst talking up the Eagles chances of making to the Super Bowl. Philly made the 8% chance look generous.

As for the Chargers - they were OK, but had the Bengals done anything other than suck dogs balls for three quarters of a game the Chargers would have been destroyed.

The Bengals were great in the second quarter and then just went away from what was working for them. OK, so the Chargers defense did block the running game brilliantly, but the Bengals went away from their passing game and tried to play conservative football. It didn't suit them. The Chargers showed how fucking awful conservative football was in that first half when Rivers set a career low passing record for a half of football of 5 from 6 for 40 odd yards.

In the second half the Chargers picked up the aggression and passed effectively. The Bengals just didn't match them and took poor option after poor option until they imploded.

I hope the Broncos have learned from their previous encounter with the Chargers as the Broncos have been the best all year and I want to see them in the Super Bowl.

So glad the Niners beat the Packers
The Packers didn't deserve home field advantage with their record

The NFL needs to move to a seeding system rather than the current system of divisional champions getting home field advantage.

The Niners and Chiefs should have been playing at home not on the road.
