Is it just for DJ'ing or for live performance? If it was just Dj'ing you could look at the Zero4??

I have a zero4 which i use with Ableton.

The interface is almost 100% the same as the Zero8.

I love it, its a very reliable bit of kit with great sound quality and seems well made and well laid out,

Yeah all the second hand stuff seemed so tempting, but it's the last mixer I would think of buying and shipping to Oz would probly be crazy anyway. If I could get some cheap shipping, then it would be a totally different story.

you can get 'em from the states pretty cheaply - was just looking at one in fact.

US$1500 for opened box w/ full manufacturer's warranty (shipping will probably be US$100'ish)

so that's around: AUD$1,865'ish landed

from here: http://www.novamusik.com/search.aspx...rd=4537&mid=35

the thing that put me off about them was that say if you're hooked up to ableton or what-not and using midi channels a single midi channel takes up a whole channel of the mixer so if you have a few midi things going like i do you really don't have too many channels to muck around with...

Mapped it myself - twas dead easy.

To answer your 2nd q, yes you can have it set to audio & midi at the same time. What are your effects adjusements in audio mode (eg wet/dry etc) become midi mapable. The audio channels glow orange and your midi controls green so you don't mix em up.

I own a zero8 and to be honest with you...I couldn't be happier with it....There are a bunch of people that seem to have faulty VU meters and also this "Hiss"...I am yet to have a problem with my zero8 and couldn't picture life without it...

Sasha who is currently on tour in the states had his Maven die (custom made mixer for ableton.) He is now using a zero8 for the time being and from what I read everywhere he is amazed with it...

I payed $2799 for mine about 3 months ago...

Your not serious right?

Go and have a read of how he actually uses ableton then you will see why he will use loads of channels.

Wow, that tour diary is awesome. So real good inside scoops on how the big boys of the scene move and shake.

Great find.

Well i guess if you had two that were in working order you would tour with them both.

I believe when he first debuted the MAVEN he did tour with two in case of reliability issues.

On a tour like that space constraints would be an issue as well as the fact if he had no reliability issues he may have been confident that it wouldn't bork out.

That said the Zero 8 is the perfect stand in for the MAVEN in that instance. They are an awesome bit of kit and when i am allowed to spend money on music stuff again i will be doing my best to grab one.

Had a play with the Zero 4 the other weekend and it is simply a dream to use once you know where everything is.

Bang for buck and quality wise it leaves the DJM800 in its dust trails.
Jay Parker.

space wouldn't be an issue, just on charge to the client.

i need to ammend my original post about my zero4
the updates in the new firmware have now bought my marks to 10/10
it now accepts midi clock in woooot!
oh and traktor scratch functionality omg yes......
although before i assume too much, does another zero4 owner here
know if thats what it meant in the update.
Like i can go buy control vinyls and just hook em up as it says ?

edit: apparently in my original post i already gave it 10/10 lol guess i just love my zero4, mind you took me 3 hours and god knows how many attempts for the update to go through successfully

Updating the zero 4 isnt all that difficult. If you read the instructions carefully it should take you less than 5 minutes.

Love my zero4 but definitely miss the analogue warmth of my allen and heath

With you on that but i was lucky enough to get the update to work on second attempt! Booya!
It really is a fiddly way of doing things though :/

Not 100% sure about the TS control vinyls though, am interested to know though

i think it might have something to do with the firewire connection on my laptop

it was working as per instructions although it kept saying Recieve Error (Timeout) or something
i just reset the mixer a couple of times and reconnected the cable and when i was getting further each time (progress wise) i figure id get there if i kept trying.
is all good now
