SBW is a top bloke. So is Pocock, both credits to their country and code.

How fucking good are the ABs - unbelievable. They weren't pitch perfect all game, but those moments when they were on song they just leave me dumbfounded at how good they are. I feel like they're the best rugby team I've ever seen, Union or League.

The Wallas put up a good fight and I'm glad they came back into it, but you can't turn over lineouts and drop the ball cold when you're facing a team from another planet.

Nonu's try was immense. 6 foot tall and 108 kgs of brick motherfucking wall and the bloke runs like that. I wouldn't want to tackle him.

No, I avoided every minute of every game and then pretended to watch it for the past six weeks. I also photoshopped myself in Cardiff at the Wallabies game too, just to make the ruse even more authentic.

Not sure what you're trying to claim here... that the Wallabies got one lucky call against Scotland then got dudded for an entire game vs that ABs? lol.

Agreed. It was fucking amazing. No matter who you were going for, I was watching that with absolute astonishment. Found the gap, changed direction and just launched that locomotive off into the horizon. The drop goal by Carter was stunning as well and absolutely critical at that point in the game.

Our sloppy turnovers and poor lineouts in the 1st half killed any chance of us pipping the ABs. It was an inspired 2nd half, but another passing turnover that resulted in the final try to the ABs summed up our game really.

The thing about watching thew ABs for me is the level of composure they show- for most of the game you could watch the way they just adjusted their game to what the Wallabies were doing and stayed a couple of moves ahead, and just upped the tempo and turned the screws on them when they needed to. It was only when they were a man down and the Wallabies fired up that they were outgunned for a while. But thats what you get when you've got a core of 5 or 6 players who're all time greats in their position playing together for nearly a decade, its incredibly rare for any side in any sport to get to that point.
The Wallabies are a good side but they're still a work in progress, they don't have that implacable composure and tactical nous yet, but they're essentially a young side and they'll keep getting better. Similarly the scrum has earned praise because its improved so much from the mess it used to be but they were still bettered in each of the finals. But again if they continue on the same trajectory they'll keep improving. It's going to be be a great contest in the next few years as the Wallabies keep improving and the ABs transition to new blood.

No I meant that match against Scotland. The ref was awful the whole game.

Maybe for a year or two but your next generation will peak right in time for Japan '19.

Yep it was a bit of a gamble to have faith in McCaw, Carter etc to make it to this WC, but it certainly paid off in terms of succession.

I don't think anyone but the most one-eyed Union types here are surprised at that. Cheers Mr Lancaster

I dont think any union supporters outside of england give two shits about burgess. And at least 50% of the english supporters will be filthy on lancaster for giving a world cup squad position to this guy over luther Burrell.

Why the fuck did they play him in the centres when he played at blindside (well) for Bath? He's no SBW. No pace, no real offload and average hands, he's a forward, in either code.
He got dudded, and I don't blame him for coming back, I'd rather have with my brothers and play for Souffs than Engloland and Bath.

Agree about that. Bath found out pretty quickly that burgess wasnt a back. The english coaching panel were clueless.

Good article.

I blame it on the RFU they screwed up big time with Sam Burgess, massive loss for them, in the the long run he could have been a superstar in 2019. I don't know who runs the English RFU at the moment but they need to pull their socks up.

So? That's pretty much prime age for a forward, most go around til 32 at least. McCaw, Read and Kaino are all 30+.

Sad but not entirely unexpected. His transplanted kidney failed s while back and he's been on dialysis a long time.

I think the player of our generation and possibly many generations to come.

While it's a shame his career ended prematurely he will only be remembered as the absolute world legend he was. Truly a sad day indeed.

Watch this video of him in the 1995 World Cup. It's not his raw strength that is most amazing, as you expect that from a man his size, but his speed, swerve and balance, for a 196cm, 119kg man it's scarcely believable. Its just a shame that for most of his career his kidneys were already shot and he was nowhere near his full potential, what he could have been is unimaginable. Even after a kidney transplant he returned to provincial rugby, and when he couldn't play rugby any more he was training and competing in bodybuilding competitions. Unbelievable. I don't believe we'll see another like him.

That sucks, I was looking forward to him continuing to build on his work with Japan toward the next WC. Maybe we'll have to send the Japs a Kiwi coach!

Super Rugby has been a pretty strange comp to follow this year but there has been some good rugby.

There's a lot of talk around how the Wallabies are going to look and ultimately function as a team but I'm quietly confident.

Falou at 13 this week will be interesting. He's up against the current (and very 1 dimensional) Kuridrani. I'd imagine Cheika will be licking his lips.

He did very well seeing as though he was knocked out. Also controversial they let him back on.

Beale was the stand out for me.

Waratahs forward pack needs a lot of work.
