i wouldn't expect much difference from 8-10. I'd say any 8.1 64bit driver will work just fine in 10

I tried using the 64bit Win8 driver for my UA25 and it declared it wasn't a 64 bit driver. It most certainly is thankyou very much!

5 years since the last driver update - yeah if they haven't made a driver specifically for win8 you can pretty much doubt they'll do one for 10. Might be a good time to sell it to someone less informed and replace with a new interface that does have win10 specific drivers.

"it will work fine" applies more to consumer sound cards/onboard than audio production interfaces.

Production interface drivers seem to have been a lot more sensitive to changes of OS in the past, I think that may be because of all the extra channels/inputs and the drivers needing to run very low latency.

Vista to 7 I remember being a lot of interfaces having issues, the move from 7 to 8 wasn't quite as bad, but I do recall peeps on forums still having issues with a few interfaces running older drivers, particularly how they hook into the windows mixer.

If in doubt, virtualise a clean trial version of windows 10, install the 7/8 driver and check that your daw software works properly (if it hasn't been updated for 10) before going all the way..

Vista removed direct hardware access for audio, and they changed it again for 7. 7 & 8 are pretty similar & I really doubt 10 is going to be much different to 8.1

But yeah as you said pro audio stuff is touchy and most manufacturers have terrible support for their older products. M-Audio are particularly bad.

Which seems double shit, because it's one of the few types of hardware that people might actually want to use for a decade or two.

They would prefer you to buy a new product rather than make them waste money supporting old ones that they get nothing back for.

But hey, people used Windows XP for a decade or two.

There's reason the midi spec retains a core that is more or less what it was in 1983 (even though it means people have had to engineer around its various shortcomings)

UPDATE: I did actually find a Win8 driver which I'd previously somehow missed, but alas I got the same errors as before. Then I realised that I hadn't actually bothered with any of the OS updates for a while, so I ran those overnight and I'll see if I make any progress this evening.

It is indeed a piece of hardware that does everything required and has no need to keep up with the latest technological fads & protocols. Audio goes in, audio comes out. It's not like it needs cloud storage or address book synchronisation.

So hardware issue aside as a part time MAc user, I fukking LOVE WIn Key + Ctrl + Left / Right. About time MS!

Random thought *holds up spork* I wonder if disabling driver signing might help (it would depend on the type of errors you're getting yada yada). That was the only way I got the GPU going in my lappy after upgrading to Win8.

It is worth a try and I did give that a crack last night with the same results as all other attempts.

Windows 7 does not have multiple desktops enabled natively the same way Mac OS does. Win 10 does now.

no, but you were talking about keyboard shortcuts not virtual desktops.

Linux has had vitrual desktops since like forever.

MS have elaborated on the Windows 10 - confirmed they're basically doing like Apple with software as a service model.

I'm afraid my PC is too old so not going to tempt fate, even though it's almost certainly fine. Win7 until end of the year then fresh Win10 install on a new machine around Christmas.

In the notifications "Action Center" there is an option in this button group called "Connect".This lets you play video or audio from the PC to another device using Bluetooth, Miracast, or WiGig. Last fall, Roku announced support for mirroring Windows displays, and indeed Roku was a choice in my Action Center after tapping Connect.

I think MS has it wrong. I haven't got the latest installed, in fact haven't updated them since I installed the card as it was such a shitfight just getting it working. I guess I've got no choice now. I will regret this.

You can force the upgrade to start without waiting for your turn in the rollout

Check for updates first
then in an elevated command prompt, wuauclt.exe /updatenow

It'll kick off the download straight away.

Apparently you have to have windows updates set to auto-install for it to work

Sorted my video driver. Forgot I needed to get the modded inf from http://laptopvideo2go.com/

They have Win10 drivers too, but I can't install them under Win8 and I can't upgrade to Win10 without the drivers. I'm sure life will find a way.

Should i be doing a full system image backup before the update or is it a pretty safe install upgrade over the top that'll backout fine if it poo's it up?

edit: dw just running a system image and file history backup now

573GB for the system image.. pleaaaaaase, hopefully windows 10 has better compression for image backups

(got it all backed up on an external )
