CricketLive, it's a Vodafone app - so it's unsurprisingly unstable. But the content's great and it has every cricket game streamed.

good to see lyon get kallis out after being battered.

One more quick wicket and things will get interesting.

Still 30 overs to play.

this is a victory for us in everything but name, we've taken triple the wickets and that extra half day is all we need unless we see something awesome right now.

Yeah bit of a moral victory. Took more wickets than Steyn, Morkel and Philander, who are a better attack. Cowan and Hussey showing a bit of form is good. Wade looked confident at the crease as well.

I think Hilf might be dropped for Adelaide. I have been a great supporter of his since the India series, he really became a lot more threatening with a bit more pace, wider delivery on the crease and later swing. The Hilf that showed up for this test was the 09/10 Hilfenhaus. The predictable Hilfenhaus. Sour about that. Siddle and Pattinson looked far more threatening.

we werent that far off you blokes, if it hadnt have been washed out, we could have gotten a positive result.

Hilf deserves another test.

He will prob come in in perth anyhow for lyon, so I would tend to stick with what we have right now.

Its fair to say that the 2 genuine swing bowlers in this game (Philander and Hilfy), didn't perform well and swing the ball in conditions. It would be pretty stupid to drop either of them based on this test. A balanced attack is a good attack. Having of the same "hit-the-deck" type bowlers (albeit with Starc's left armers) would be disastrous if conditions suddenly change..

No such thing as "what ifs" when it comes to this sort of thing. The whole dynamic of the match would have been different if SA came out and batted on the morning of day 2.

Yup. Clarke would have gone to Smith and said "I don't think this is going to end" and Smith would have been happy to call it.

This making up overs is bullshit. They should set aside a day extra for every test so that if one day is a complete washout like day 2 they can still make it a 5 day game.

They claim it is a scheduling issue but when Kallis is off to the Gold Coast to play golf for the next few days it does seem that's a bit of a thin excuse. I'd say the Indians oppose it, like they do everything.

Intriguing stuff that first Test, albeit I doubt the South Africans will bowl quite so erratically in the next Test. You'd think Tahir would come in for the fourth seamer/ no ball specialist. Expect another seven days of media hoopla re: Australia's third seamer/ spinner combo. Lyon looks a bit short.

We start in Ahmedabad this week, could be tight although I have a feeling we've got the edge with the bowling stocks. New opener with Chef is the key concern. Expecting a huge series from KP.

Lyon will play in Adelaide 100% I reckon Starc may get the nod over hilfy though. He only grabbed two low order batsman.

Hilfenhaus has gone back to his 2010 Ashes form, they should drop him now as we all know how that turned out.

Down on pace and swing, he is not threatening at all.

I dont see what was so bad about it. No swing for a swing bowler on a seamers pitch, therefore you keep tight and build pressure for the bowling partner. He was probably our most economical bowler, so job well done

I actually thought Lyon was pretty good too on a difficult pitch for finger spin. He needs to flight it a bit more though

So if I was the West Australian team manager I would be looking for a good psychiatrist rather than a new coach. 400/9d in the first innings. Currently 52/7 in the second innings. Such a joke of a team!

It was his approach into the crease, his action and his pace. They have all reverted to the old Hilfenhaus: sub -135, delivery from tight into the stumps, any swing occurs immediately out of the hand. It's why he was so utterly ineffective in the 2010 ashes and average before. He was so good in the India series because his pace was up to the 140's, he was using the whole crease for variation and the action was changed to allow the ball to swing later.

I would drop him for the next test, and try to get Ali de Winter to sort him the fuck out again like he did last time. 4 pacemen in Perth is a possibility, otherwise he could push for the Sri Lanka tests. But unless he changes something, he will be dominated in Adelaide.

Agree with you that Lyon bowled well. 1 full day under covers in the middle of a match doth not make a pitch conducive to finger spin.

Starc's definitely worth a go. We have a surplus of pace bowlers and they all deserve a chance to lay their claim and Arthur stated this. If Starc doesn't perform then Hilfenhaus can come back or if he does then it's a win.

I really want Hazlewood to not get injured and have a bumper season so he can get in the Ashes squad.

If Jack Bird continues getting wickets too - he would be ideal for the English tracks

Hate to say it but Mitchell Johnson was almost unplayable today apparently. Maybe he should just play at the WACA for his entire career

I wouldn't read too far into it. It seems that the shield pitches seem to be more bowler friendly this year. I think that the competition wants more outright results.

Bodes well for the Perth test though if it is the wicket.

Hilfy: no way he will get dropped after 1 test and bowling on a road. id hate to see it get to the point where we are continually changing our team. there's possibly better options/future stars not in the team at the moment, but thats not enough to warrant him getting dropped after 1 average test.

Johnson: his best would be good enough to be in the team imo.. I can only hope the reports of his improvement are true. our current attack lacks bite and Johnson would bring that.

I've seen Johnson play a couple of times on Fox Sports, and he has definitely been unplayable.

Much more accurate, and changes to his run up and action have brought that late swing back.

Remember him at the WACA against England? It's been like watching that all over again.

...he's still a fgt though

If you're building towards the back to back Ashes series, there is little point going back to Mitchell. WACA aside, he'd get towelled again.

A couple of things.

1. I am starting to wonder whether the reason Michael Clarke doesn’t bowl himself very much is less to do with his troublesome back and more to do with not wanting to outdo the specialist spinner in the team. I honestly think if Clarkey was a specialist spinner he would be in the mix for a call up. That probably isn’t saying much though, given that Michael Beer is next in line.
2. Mitchell Johnson. No. Not again. Not ever.

From the Graudian in Ahmedabad....

The BCCI, in their boundless wisdom, have decided to refuse to allow certain picture agencies access to the ground. So the Guardian, along with other UK media groups, is not publishing live pictures from the first Test in protest.

Fucking BCCI.

Update: we're getting whalloped all over the shop on a dead wicket. No pictures is probably a blessing.

jesus christ dave warner should be kept right away from a microphone, the guy can hardly string two words together, possibly some form of retard. i'm assuming he's only "touted" as a future captain because he is from NSW.

Warner shouldnt be in the team. Cowan's century the other day just shows up what kinda of player Australia needs at the top of the order

Cowan
Watson
Quiney
Clarke
Khawaja
Hussey
Wade
Pattinson
Siddle
Hilf
Lyon

Probably hard on punter but I dont see him sticking round much after this summer. Could even open with Quiney and have Watto first drop
