I reckon Warner would go alright at 5 or 6.

I really want to see Punter make a couple more hundreds and then call it quits. I don't want them to have to drop him.

Also, Tendulkar failed again

England not picking Panesar. Pretty big fuckup!

I don't understand how they think Broad is pivotal for the team. He had doubts coming in and hasn't been that good for maybe 12 months now

Nah Warner can stay for the moment. If he keeps getting out cheaply or derping into a microphone, sure. Remember the not out hundred against NZ? Who are we going to replace him with. Khawaja? Hughes? Both more inconsistent and even less mentally committed.

WA won a 4 day match, is this real life?

You would have to think we are a big chance of regaining the ashes.

This is true, but playing a single front line spinner on that wicket (was Panesar injured?)? Seriously ridiculous. You know it's going to be a road or a turner, that's part and parcel of playing in India. Not really that different to having a green top at The Oval or Lords.

England will be better at home and over here, but they don't look as good as they did the last two series.

With two days to play England could well do an Eden Gardens.

And because that match was so fucking awesome, here are the highlights. So bizarre seeing Ponting at 6.

edit. and Shane Warne being a fat ****!

Excellent day to be at North Sydney Oval yesterday - it would have been better if NSW had won, but you can't have everything. if you want to see more sixes being hit, you don't want to go to that 20-20 nonsense, you want to see a one day game at North Sydney Oval. 33 sixes including Finch putting one on the roof.

Highlights included one very inebriated dude who was heckling Doug Bollinger being told by one of the NSW fielders to "pipe down, you moron" - the only lowlight was the police at one stage directing the bar staff to stop selling full-strength beer after a scuffle broke out near the gates. I thought collective punishment was illegal under international law, but I wasn't going to make a point of it in case I got tasered 14 times.
But we're fools if we sit back and stare at the ground
While the weasels and analysts sing
If we want our place in history, we can't let the frustration
Drive us to fashionable drinking again

Monty and Swann in tandem have yet to taste victory in Test matches. I can understand the management sticking with the 3+1 system. The bowlers performed admirably in the Emirates early in the year, despite the flat tracks they were presented with.
Anyway, Chef and Prior are playing out of their skins. Broad, however, should be dropped.

Damn, Prior gone pretty early .

Have to say though, this is what I love about test matches. Ball by ball, its just intense. India should win this ( especially now) but while Cook is there, who knows. Every run England make would be hurting India knowing they have to chase it. Imagine if England held out til after lunch and India had a session and a half to chase down 100-150?

This Watson saga is pathetic.

He hasn't been in good (test) nick with the bat for ages, so if he in incapable of bowling just leave him out FFS.

He should drop playing 20/20 to give his body a chance of resting if he wants to be taken seriously as 5 day guy.

Shane Watson patience now at 0%.

if he is fit he is a monty for the first XI - apart from his lean trot against the Lankans last year, he has consistently been one of our best batsmen.

I would rather see him opening or at number 3 than warner/quiney

Agreed. Just fuck him off. Sick of the same shit year in year out throwing the team into disarray. Cummins can go on to the junk pile as well.

Yeah Watson > Warner

Quiney was a bit unlucky. Got outsmarted somewhat. You never want to get out caught on the boundary in a Test match

The facts are:

1. Over the period of 2011 and 2012 (nearly 2 years) Watson has played 9 of a possible 17 tests. So he has missed around 50% of tests through injury.

2. In those 9 tests he has had 17 innings. Those 17 innings have produced 3 50's & no 100's. That is a strike rate of a substantial test knock less than 1 out of every 5 innings. His batting average over the period is only around 27.

On these figures over a two year period any top order batsmen would be struggling to hold his place.

He is not in our best 11 as a batsmen only.

David Warner has hit 1 50 and 2 100s in his 17 test innings at an average of 39.

Ed Cowan has hit 3 50s and 1 100 at an average of 38

Quiney averages 37 in shield cricket.

I have seen Cowan develop, I havent seen Warner develop, and I am not convinced Quiney is a long term number 3.

I am not denying it is frustrating all of Watson's injuries, but you conveniently left off the rest of his career like it doesnt matter, where he starred against the West Indies, India and England.

In my mind he has proven himself at test level, whereas the others havent.

Plus he gives us another bowling options... 60 wickets at 29 aint too shabby either.

Team remains unchanged for the Adelaide test. Watson and Starc miss out.

I do think that Hilfenhaus will struggle again, his round arm action is back and pace and swing have dropped off considerably.

Agreed. He had 2 years without missing a test and proved himself to most ppl in that time but probably would be better suited coming into bat later when retirements come and Clarke should move up.

what a surprise?!?! I don't get the media beatup about this, which has now lead to an apparent fallout between Clarke and Watson that both deny.

what has Mitch Marsh ever done ? a talented young player with a good future ahead of him and you're grinning when he injures himself and will miss an entire season ?

Young bloke, with plenty of talent who could play plenty of cricket for Australia. I don't see why you think I would be joking ? A strong domestic comp with younger players like Marsh coming along will only benefit the Aus team. I just fail to see the amusing part of seeing someone miss an entire season through injury.

He certainly does.

I think Clarke is batting too low. Great pitch for batting, depleted attack and our best bat is coming in at 5. Should be in ahead of Ponting.

Agreed.

There are a lot of runs in the pitch, after we get through the first 15 overs.

Could be a long day for the saffers unless they get a few wickets in this first session
