I can manage one bottle...way sweet. yum on ice.

Dan Murphys and some other bottle shops have just started stocking/importing 'wild berry' flavour (rekorderlig) . I'm yet to try it.

Tried it the other day. Better than the Strawberry / Lime which is ridiculously sweet and closer to lolly water. It's still sweet and super easy to drink but not as sickly.

I'd probably rate them: Pear --> Wild Berry ---> Apple ---> Strawberry / Lime.

Apple just seems to lack any real flavour but Pear is all sorts of win.

Rekorderlig is far and away the best, so glad we discovered it on a night out a few months ago. Kopparberg is a close second, but everything else pales in comparison to the Swedish options. It's just a shame it's $6/bottle minimum.

This post from 'ratebeer.com' sums it up, imo:

Rekorderlig-

"clearly this isn’t a ’real’ cider, far too sweet and artificial. Nonetheless it is flavourful and enjoyable, and it has enough complexity in the aroma and flavour to save it from macro muck damnation. Finishes well. It is good, but on a far different level to carefully brewed ’real’ ciders. Worth trying for sure."

While i'm at this snobbery:

Wikipedia : cider : Sweden

'Due to Swedish law, stores in Sweden cannot sell cider with less than 15 percentage juice by volume under the name Cider.[25] "Cider" with none or less than 15% juice is instead usually sold as "Apple/Pear beverage of cider character" (Swedish)"Äpple-/Pärondryck med Ciderkaraktär. Brands of cider in Sweden include Rekorderlig, Kivik and Kopparberg cider. Most Swedish cider has little in common with traditional cider from other countries. Usually it is very sweet and it is very often berry or fruit flavoured, making it more like an alcoholic fruit soda.'

Ah interesting, that explains the intense sweetness of Rekorderlig and Kopparberg then.

It's sweet but doesn't become too much so when you drink a lot of them. It's on a far different level in that it's the best you can buy.

^^ I agree. Not something I could knock back one after the other. Gets a little much after a few but the first couple are deliciously refreshing.

Need something with a bit more bite for a session.

Banana cake is the best bananas you can buy.

As I understand it, it's not brewed as cider is meant to be/traditionally brewed and the flavouring is largely artificial. Therefore, it shouldn't really be compared to authentic ciders but instead bicardi breezers etc

It's a bit of fun, the strawberry one is surprising and also as it is bright pink, it is fun to buy one for your mates in the pub.

Tasty, though it needs be cold and iced, just chilled can make it taste funny.
and also the scrumpy jack ... but its damn near impossible to find at dans, but they do have the green goblins which concludes the top three. Bulmers/Magners do alright when out n about tho =]

The overly sweet ciders don't tickle my fancy ... one or two and then its game over bring on the apply goodness.

I've slowly gotten into cider because beer makes me feel like absolute shit these days (whilst on it, not the day after, I dont get hangovers).

The Rekorderlig wild berry is my pick atm, but I'll get over it quick. As others said, cant drink more than a couple.

Usually just get 5 seeds cause it's the cheapest with best flavour for value, but it's a bit too sweet for my liking. Bulmers off tap is good. It's just a shame that everywhere but Dan Murphy's has a really shit range. I cant be bothered driving all the way to DM every time :\

aaaaaaaaaye! That rocks. I love the wanky descriptions on that site.

"This cider can be served chilled at the end of afternoon, as an aperitif prior to a meal and is a superb accompaniment to a range of pork dishes especially roast pork with crackling and apple sauce."

yeah okay o.0 OR guzzled straight from the bottle while chowing down on some meat!

Redoak's Original Apple Cider

We are releasing our first ever apple cider this Friday night from 6pm! This is a night not to be missed!

Tasting notes: After the aroma of fresh apples and summer sweet cider, the palate is welcomed by a vibrant sparkling fruitiness, with hints of apple and fruits and a pleasant mouthfeel. The flavour of fresh apples opens up across the palate and finishes with a crisp balanced acidity (4.5%).

Redoak's new range of ciders and perry's are based on an old family recipe of our great grandparents, with influences from England, Ireland and across Europe. Our ciders are produced from fresh apples, handmilled into pomace and pressed in an old basket press in the old traditional way. Like all of our beers, our ciders are true to style, world-class and a great refreshing drink!

Our Ciders and Perry's (pear cider) use fresh Australian fruit with no added sugar, no additives or preservatives and no sulphur dioxides. Instead Redoak uses the natural fermentation process to produce the natural sparkle and capture the natural flavours from the fruit.

I have to agree with that. I can happily knock back 6+ on a hot day. A lot of apple ciders I find are worse. To me it seems far less of a sugary sweetness and more just intense strawberry. That would make sense with it being minimum 15% juice though.

ok, I'm calling it.

Australia's best cider is Lobo Royale.

Awesome cider, right up there with the best cidre bouche from France.

http://www.loboapple.com/LOBO_Royale_cider.html

6 month bottle matured before release, hard to find, but worth tracking down.

yep.

It's massive on taste and mouthfeel and complexity, not huge on alcohol.

The juice was pressed and left to start fermenting using only the indigenous or wild yeasts that come naturally with the apples.
A rare cidermaking event known as keeving took place spontaneously, the slowly starting bubbles of fermentation gas attach themselves to the apple particles and float to the surface, helped by the apple pectin. From what we read it is a bit unpredictable and depends on many factors so we were pleased with this good omen.
In traditional European cidermaking this is thought of as a very helpful event as it allows the cidermaker to clarify the juice by removing the floating brown mass that develops.
