Re: Have a look at my new table thread & dj's who go overboard on mixing....
Whoever had the opinion that a dj should not make rapid arm movements when eq'n etc is a dick, I wanted to post this link in the other thread but it was locked before I had the chance...

Elite Force for example happens to be one of the better producers and dj's out there and is very enagmatic and enjoying to watch...

Decide for yourself...

^looks and sounds good, like he is having a lot of fun

Dj Proteus also does rapid arm movements....

Come to think of it he even climbs speaker stacks to headbang....

Plays finRG...

My fav dj on intensity alone....

IMO Dj's have to be entertaining to watch. Fidget and electro really lends to being entertaining; the cuttyness and energy allows the DJs to act out. Brings up the energy, leads the crowd like a conductor really.

Which is why I dont feel Armin. Hands in air. And again. Wooooo.....

I think if you want to go crazy behind the turntables, do so. But I personally find it a bit lame when the crowd thinks that the DJ (whos fingers are turning the EQ knobs) is creating the build-up, and the DJ has that 'build-up' face where it seems like its causing them slight
pain to 'create' this build-up. Its all an act, but hey, if it makes the crowd love it, by all means, go nuts and you'll probaly be remembered..

I reckon it can be done well - kind of like a conductor and the crowd is the orchestra...

Sometimes when I drop that chunky, deep bassline I feel all powerful, a god like figure if you will. In this instance I feel completely justified in throwing my left arm to the heavens and fist pumping with the power of a Tyson upercut.

(But then my mum walks into the bedroom and tells me to turn it down becuase dinners ready)

Hey now, don't be so sure it's an act, my favourite genre of dance music is "Music which makes you want to scrunch your face up"

Lee Burridge would have to be one of the most entertaining DJs I've seen, he doesn't act it up, he doesn't do stupid arm flicks, but he'll get right into the fucking groove and just be really loose and have fun with the punters...much respect!
Pete Gordon - Deep and Low

Slower tempo but still with balls, deephouse, slow-mo, futurehouse, nudeep, indie, nudisco, hints of progressive, whatever the fuck you want to call it, just good shit! Get on it

I think the main point here is Shack and Mills there are actually working the shit out of the euipment.
If you are smashing the tunes out...no one cares

Its poser djs who wail away on the flange or chicken wing eqs constantly when actually doing very little to the mix that look and are stoooopid

Shack is god...........roll on breakfest

I do think that some of you guys put far too much weight on the actual practice of playing two pieces of music at the same time. As far as the audience is concerned - it's a performance - and that's what they're there to see. It's not exactly like the whole DJ thing, with respect to how the vast majority go about doing it, is seriously that hard. I mean, come on.

So it's up to the performer to make what is essentially the physical equivalent of washing the dishes, engaging from a performance perspective.

Round about the part where I made an observation on the physical activity of mixing two tunes together and you attacked the messenger, not the message.

That's why I warned you, and probably why I'll ban you in the near future.
