For what it's worth, I don't personally agree with it. You can understand the context of any genre quite clearly if you take a look at the parties that play it. It doesn't mean you have to like it.

The community is full of fgts, but there are a HUGE amount of members from all walks of life. It's the same as going out on a busy street and looking at the people around you, most of them are fgts. The site itself is just everything that's popular on the internet, trends, media, news etc and puts it in a handy to read format.

Which context is David Guettas music meant to be enjoyed?

A cock sucking competition or something? Cause it sounds pretty homosexual to me.

For a bunch of Vegas-like noobs in a big multi-room club who only listened to RnB/Top 40 and never listened to EDM before he showed up. Now you've got Top 40 big room club shit and Paris Hilton headlining, this crowd now feel at home.

I dont agree with the picture because he implies that music can be enjoyed depending on the "context" of your enviroment and not personal preference.

Also, he looks like a fag, not a gay person but a metro hipster twat.

I've never heard of him. He's 17 years old and teens are usually dumb. That's all I know.

Nevertheless, his quote is good discussion fodder.

Not liking a certain genre doesn't mean hating it.

That's true. But even when understanding the context, I still find myself hating certain genres anyway because of external influences. Like the crowd it attracts, the media overhype/saturation or quotes/behaviour from the artists themselves.

So a hate of the context can lead to a hate of the genre. I'll agree with that.

New retarded question: Should we judge music purely on the music, or in what context it happens to find itself in?

The original post wasn't my point, and I definitely don't claim to understand it. But I am trying to garner discussion. Many viewpoints will help decipher our own interpretations.

Not really context to enjoy the music in though innit. More life experience. So although that could be described as context, as in the context of our memories and experiences that shapes out likes/dislikes/opinion, it's not a situational context that everyone can achieve. Ergo, to me, the context in which this music should be enjoyed is inherently un-knowable.

You don't have to "hate" on anything ... music or otherwise. That sentiment in itself is one problem with the OP macro. "Hating" on anything beyond some abhorrent moral issue or similar really is teenager mentality.

But you can dislike, for what ever personal reasons.

My dad doesn't like jazz ... but he loves epic film scores and trance (the kind of trance that makes me reach for the stop/off button). I love (some forms of) jazz, and actively avoid those epic soundtracks and trance tunes.

Some people just don't like some shit ... can't force it either way or reason it out ... it just is. ""Context" ??!? What ever!

This looks like the catch cry of someone who who's copping flack for their output and are trying to justify their "genre" .

Winner. But say for instance that you saw a Noisecore gig full of angry skinheads smashing it out. Would you say you understood it? Surely it's not an easy situation to put yourself in. But to know why they're enjoying it surely leads itself to some other form of understanding?
