they're been banned from sale in some country thanks to nokia. they claim they stole their microphone tech - apparently the manufacturer of the nokia mics passed it on to htc.

The HTC One is a great phone but if you get it, root it, wipe Sense off and go with stock Android. Otherwise go with a Nexus 4.

I want the HTC one so bad.

Fledz I'd consider rooting it, but wouldn't you lose some of the phone's functionality a d special features by doing so?

I officially have my first interest in a product running Android. Wait it out, it's a PC as well.

Well, I dropped my HTC One X at the rugby tonight and it now has a crack in the bottom left hand corner. A clean split straight through about half a cm deep from the bottom left hand corner to the apex. That's sealed it, time to get a One

I know haha! I'm lucky the screen isn't scratched too, it wedged between the seat and concrete with screen pressed to concrete, I had to slide it up.

Bah it's horrid to use now, my eyes keep moving to the crack At least it's clean and wont chip away.

has anyone here had experience with running cyanogen (10.1) on a galaxy s 2? I've been meaning to root mine for some time but never got around to it, now my girlfriend's s 2 has a bug in android where it is creating cache files in the memory which are unable to be deleted, which fills the memory and means no new apps can be updated/installed. From the info I've found online it will reoccur even if there is a factory reset done, so I'm gonna flash cyanogen onto hers and then do my phone if all goes well.
Been reading on xda all day today and yesterday to scope things out, I think I've figured out exactly what I need to do and have compiled a walkthrough for the whole process, using guides other people have written for the various individual installations/flashing that needs to be done.
I'll paste it here, and if anyone notices any glaring errors/omissions, let me know kthx.
Spoiler:
MAKE BACKUP OF PHONE WITH KIES
CLOSE KIES & KILL KIES IN TASK MANAGER

Backup any photos etc onto SD storage

INSTALL CLOCKWORKMOD KERNEL

Power your device off
Boot into Download-Mode using Volume Down + Home + Power
Hit Volume Up to accept the warning
Start Odin
Choose "GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_X.X.X.X.tar" as PDA (no repartition)
Connect your Phone
Start flashing
After reboot you can easily root your device using SuperOneClick

Usage
Volume Up + Home + Power boots your Phone into Recovery Mode.

Volume up: Highlight up
Volume down: Highlight down
Home: select
Power: back

ROOT USING SUPERONECLICK:

You NEED to put your phone on USB Debugging mode
You NEED to install make sure the Android drivers for your phone are installed
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card.
If you still can't get something to run, try doing it in recovery mode.

BACKUPS:

BUSYBOX
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...i5idXN5Ym94Il0.
GSII REPAIR
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...SV9SZXBhaXIiXQ..
Use GSII Repair to backup efs files.
Copy backup folder to PC
TITANIUM BACKUP
> menu > Batch > Run for Backup all user apps > run batch operation.

BACKUP ROM

boot into recovery mode (hold - power, home and volume up)
> backup and restore (press power button to select)
> backup
it should start a full back up of your rom for you (2-3 mins to back up), once it has finished click reboot system now.

INSTALL SIYAH KERNEL

Download the .zip version of the Siyah kernel* and Hawker's, GS2KernelWiper and place them on your external SD card, safest place,
(if you downloaded them using your phone they will be in... "/sdcard/Download"),
Open CWM Recovery > Vol Up + Home + Power
select, "install zip from sdcard"
followed by, "choose .zip from sdcard",
and then navigate down the menu until you get to "GS2KernelWiper" and install it. It takes about 2 seconds to complete.
You then navigate to "Siyah-(kernel version you wish to install)",
and install it and then reboot your phone.

After installation of the latest Siyah kernels, you will find an app called STweaks, (not on beta releases, needs to be downloaded from the Play Store),
installed that will allow further customisation of the kernel.

INSTALL CM10.1

Download Google Apps zip
Place CyanogenMod rom .zip file on the root of the SD card
cmd > adb push YOURROMZIP.zip /sdcard/
Place Google apps zip on sd
adb push gapps.zip /sdcard/
adb help:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_a...leshooting_adb

Boot to recovery mode on the device by holding Volume Up, Home, & Power.
> wipe data/factory reset >install zip from sdcard >choose zip from SD card
Select CyanogenMod zip file, confirm

Install Google Apps
>install zip from sdcard >choose zip from SD card

return back to the main menu,
perform factory reset
reboot

FINISH

HTC have stopped using the nokia mic in the One. They were allowed to use existing stock so if you want one, get it right now to get the good mic

Not that anybody cares but following on from my post earlier, flashed my phone with CM 10.1 (nightly), at the start i thought i'd bricked my phone but it was a false alarm - that guide i'd written was majorly overcomplicated so I ended up skipping heaps of steps. My phone took about 5 hours to flash, did my girlfriend's the next day and was done in 25 mins. So good running a non Voda/Samsung bloated phone now, got an average of 5 hours more battery life than before.
Hopefully google announces a new nexus phone and tablet soon, my plan comes up for renewal right at the release date of the next nexus phone (based on last year), I'm thinking I'll go on a cheap phone plan with no handset payments ie iiNet, Kogan, Aldi, and use the saved money on buying a Nexus outright.

sheeeit, glad I never bothered doing that to mine when I had it - I'd looked into it briefly, but kept putting it off because there were so many variations of the phone, and so many confused and poorly written guides/info out there. So in the end thought fuck it, and waited for the nexus.

HTC TV enables the phone to turn on my TV and my Amp. Fucking awesome.

Okay, after 6 years and 4 devices I finally got off the iPhone bandwagon last week and grabbed one o dem HTC one jobs. Spent the past week just getting used to it... It's pretty swish but pretty miffed that blinkfeed is not fully customisable. Would be perfect if you could. Also I find that the home button thing doesn't work very well... Anyone else have thud problem?

The 5 hours was mainly me making sure that I wouldn't brick my phone if i proceeded past the first step (which prevented the phone booting, but had actually done what it was supposed to)
Yeah researching which ROMs etc to run was time consuming, in the end I could have saved a lot of time by just deciding on Cyanogen from the start. But the result is worth it, getting an extra 3 or so hours out of the battery, no samsung/voda bloatware, and generally better responsiveness - and I haven't even tried using the overclocking/underclocking features...

Hey everyone,

I have a bit of an odd request for my phone and wondering if anyone has a solution -

I want to turn on encryption on my phone. When it's turned on I have to set a password or pin for the encryption, and enter it whenever I boot up the phone. However the phone will also force me to use the same password/pin as the screenlock password.

It's annoying having to enter a long password to just unlock the screen. So I was hoping to have a password for the encryption, but a pattern lock for the screen. Is that possible?

Besides that the new phone's been running alright. The phone has crashed 2-3 times. It hasn't happened for a while now - if it happens again I'm going to set the phone back to factory default and run it for a while to see if it crashes again. Swipe/Gesture typing is amazing though.

Thanks for the link jarrardscott, I'll look into it. I would prefer to use the Android's encryption and just have the screenlock password restriction changed, but if the only solution is to use an encryption app I'll do that.

Why do I all of a sudden have the April editions of GQ Australia, Tech Life and Vogue in My Magazines? Da fuq..

I mean free copy of GQ is sweet but what the hell is going on? I checked and I haven't been billed for them, they've just appeared. Must be some promo.

Duke, you get used to it. Pick alphabetical only and make a random bunch of letters that make sense to you.

Yeah, I haven't turned on encryption yet but I've set a password to see if I can get use to it first. I sort of am, but everytime a friend sees me typing away to unlock the screen they start asking what the fuck I'm doing Though currently the password has random letters (including capitals), numbers, and special characters. I'll probably change that to alphabetical only.

haven't noticed that happening either on the N4, but the majority of mobile numbers that call/message me are from Telstra and to a lesser extent Voda.
