was it a flat wall, or was there a wall either side taking the weight?

^George, I actually do remember it. Pretty sure they had ST150s in it. So maybe search for posts with ST150s.

Ikea Expedit Bookshelves

http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/10103088

$139 + about $80-$100 for the wheels and screws and bits which takes it from 79cm high (a tad too low) to 90cm which is perfect

There's this one too...

http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/10147737

...which when on its side, is 89cm high...good if A) you don't want to put it on legs/wheels and B) you don't have millions of records as only the bottom shelves fit records

Also good as those other shelves which don't fit records, look like they'd fit a amp...which is the one bad thing about the standard Expedit...no where to put a amp! No beef if you're running self powered speakers though

Pete Gordon - Deep and Low

Slower tempo but still with balls, deephouse, slow-mo, futurehouse, nudeep, indie, nudisco, hints of progressive, whatever the fuck you want to call it, just good shit! Get on it

It's a record weight used by audiophiles, usually on low-weight records, but can be used all the time.

Ever noticed that those 100gsm LPs just don't have much bass? Throw a weight on top and BOOM!, they can pop with the big fellers.
I know that Richie M and shunji each have a set, and I think Kieren may as well. Better to ask them...

I've been contemplating them and isonoe feet for a while.

Yeah, I use 2 Mitchell Engineering record clamps for thin, warped and 7” records.
I have some Thorenz weights at home aswell!

Appreciate the compliments from all

If you or anyone wants any more info on how it was built, how to make your own or how to make sure similar layouts are strong and easy to put together let me know... Biggest tip I can give is that the deeper the unit is the more rigid it will be. as this one was in an alcove it meant it could be supported on 3 sides with nothing more than a C shaped track of 30x30 pine bolted to the Studs under each side of unit that was against a wall-then all we did was slide it in... would be way harder if it had to cantilever tho... cos it ended up up so freaking heavy with 60kg of TTs, Mixer n Amps and bout 50kg of Stone and MDF.

I can say is that the actual design is dead simple and likewise the build... hardly more than a box! All the components sit on a separate removable floor which is propped up by 4 High density Foam rubber strips 500mm long, 90mm high and 100mm wide, means we can bump the unit, jump on the floor of our stilted house and no needle skip at all.

If I didn't need to consistently take the mixer out, leave a little space for a future Xone 1D controller and had oldskool square Technics TTs I would have made it all fully flush fit...

Will be removing the top unit in the future tho ... Sold the CDJs, and am going to add a very basic home for the laptop and pad controller just above the mixer (hopefully a little more free marble).

Sweet...its a really cool unit mate, I knew when I first saw it that I would be looking at something similar once I bought a place.

I have an alcove with three sides that has timber studs on all sides so will (hopefully) have enough strength to span some 2x4's (or something similar) as the bearers then some joists running front to back then the box on top...just need to find the time to draw it all up and use the companies account at Bunnings to buy all the materials...

Think I might just over order a bit of timber next week...

Get someone to weld up a steel frame to span the distance(I’ve built almost the same console like this before) , or maybe just reinforce the console with 100mm steel angle!

Seriously going home build tyle is overkill if you just have a box of substantial enough depth... you need 100mm at a min for clearing the gear.. Besides if you support on 3 sides ten only the front is exposed to bending anyway... so all the depth you can give the front the better.. and eliminates the need for copius costs in steel... glue and screw all the way...

As I said before this unit weighs in at about 120kgs loaded... an you can make it move...
Its attached to each of the side walls with 2 16G x 80mm screws and 3 across the back...

keep it simple and cheap...

The CDJs look hard to reach, but its just the angle of the laptop screen that makes it look high up

Noice 1.
If you could have incorporated the speakers into the design and hidden the cables, that would look trumps.

Just uploaded some of my current setup, sorry about the crappy quality. Too much light in the unit and a bad camera (iphone) = these shots.

Behringer Truth's B2031A's
Sony Bravia 40" Full HD V series TV. (it's either this or a 19" lcd 4:3 ratio...)
2x Pioneer CDJ800MK2's
2x American Audio HTD4.5 Turntables
Torq + Connectiv DVS
Numark DXM09 Mixer
Sennheiser HD25-II headphones
M-Audio Axiom 25
Running ableton 8 + Massive (the only plugin I own lol)

This setup is a lot of fun to play with. Soon the TV will be going back to my bedroom and I'm gonna pick up 2x 22" or 24" monitors. Possibly just one but we'll see. I also have plans to move the PC into another room and use it just for games. I'm going to grab a laptop + stand for Torq. Overall I'm trying to seperate my DJ section and my production section so it doesn't take up so much room.

I prefer to just call it 'house' but if you really wanna pinpoint it, it's fidgety electro with a bit of house and some dubstep wobble lol.

Influence wise you're looking at guys like Jesse Rose, HiJack, Santiago & Bushido etc. Am I succeeding? No, not really hahaha.

@Matty_neal - Nice one man, I like it. Only problem is that out of the half a dozen people I've known who used a massive TV instead of an LCD screen, ALL of them eventually got rid of it because of the eye strain and it being too big. How do you find it? Is it killing your eyes and possibly your neck?
