Well there is always the Serato or similar option if I get really serious. Just going to try and focus on being less shit at the moment and get a bit of basic understanding of DJ'ing.

EDIT:
Also HD25's......dammmmmmmmmmmmm! So good.

Good to see someone who is just starting out wanting to actually learn the art of djing and not just have the latest and greatest gear.

Good stuff

pffft i went straight to cdjs and never looked back. Talking about using vinyls as "true djing" is like saying you cant do "real" driving in a ferrari because it has too much technology. Get yourself a model T ford to be a "true" driver.

bah.

Exactly right, you can't. Just as a real driver can handle a car without all the technical aids, a real DJ can DJ on all platforms. A vinyl DJ can easily jump on CDs and play, having never used CDJs before. Not many CD jocks could easily jump in and play a vinyl set.

Don't worry in the slightest, keep them in good condition and a pair of Technics will hold value countless amounts over a CDJ

plus as a DJ, you'll learn the feeling of vinyl and the control is something that is almost priceless

TBH i am relatively new to djing with ableton.. so probs not the best one to ask, so far i have never felt limited by its capabilities.. and im sure i will never..

I weighed up a few options when looking at the Xone, i was very tempted by the Korg Zero 8.
Coming from a Xone 92 i was a bit of an allen & heath fanboy, In the end i got the 4D on ebay from DMC records in prahran, for about $1000 under retail.. so that was a major influence..

So true, I started out with vinyl, then went to cdj's, and found it super easy to mix with cds.

Lot's of my mates still have a trusty pair of turntables, so it's always lots of fun to smash out a set on vinyl.

Not trolling... Maybe it's different for other genres but most of my favourite labels have gone digital-only.
I still love playing vinyl, and still hunt for anything I badly want that is not on mp3.

Why do you HAVE to have every single track you love? If I bought every track I ever liked I'd probably not appreciate them all. If its not on vinyl I can live without it.

I cant think of any label i like being 100% digital. Maybe you only like Electro Haus?

Really? Labels going digital only? To be honest, I haven't bought many tunes in the last eighteen months or so (yes, you can call me lazy if you like... I haven't been playing and I haven't been collecting, I've been busy...
But I'd be surprised if most labels went digital.

I do remember though that Get Physical started doing a run of records that were just white labels with a "Get Digital" stamp on them, rather than a proper pressing.

I still love vinyl, just wish I had more time and money to really make the most of it (and that we had better local distributors).

if it's not on vinyl, it probably isn't worth buying.

if you don't believe in your product enough to pay the cost to master, press and package up a run, then you ain't shit

Just to respond to the debate about labels going digital, I spin Hard Trance, Hardstyle and a bit of Hard Techno, and I can say that most of my favourite labels (including ones that have been around for 10 years+) have stopped pressing vinyl, purely cos in their respective scenes almost no one spins vinyl anymore. Especially with Hardstyle labels, the two biggest labels in the scene have both stopped pressing vinyl and are now digital only.
I haven't bought a new vinyl in almost 2 years now, the only stuff i buy is old tracks that aren't on mp3.

Fair enough, no point pressing if noones buying.. Still a lot of vinyl-exclusive new disco and some deep house as well. Most of it is released on both platforms.

Really depends on the genre's culture/popularity/production methods...

Cant play records out forever...

with this in mind, i only have 1200s at home atm... but spin cds out.

I am generally flicking through the pile wondering what to put on next; changing my mind and then have a glug of beer - I don;t generally have wasted time to be honest. Or I'm nattering to the missus or mates and letting the record run out ha ha

yeah ddm 4000 is ok for a beginner mixer, but sound quality is shit.
used it as a midi controler till i got the x1. Definately considering the ttm57sl because of serato, epic durability and build quality and midi capabilities. will have to see how the $$ go, but definately looking to rid myself of the ddm 4000.

Oh and i'm looking for a massive poster for my room, just haven't found one yet...

My girlfriend and I moved in together a few weeks ago, which means my studio no longer shares space with my bedroom:

Slowly getting round to decorating the walls.

Also ordered a couple of pairs of speaker stands, and got a pair of Behringer Truths in boxes to setup purely for DJing.

Graveyard of road cases, record bags and CD wallets in the spare room.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Rekkids had to be relocated to the living area due to space constraints as well, Also need to find a better position for the TRANCE sign.

The shelf with my scooter helmet has sustained a bit of damage so probably won't live with the weight being full of rekkids

Many years (2003 to now), many different setups ...

1. 2 x Technics 1200's with a Behringer 2ch POS and dodgy Sony cans
2. swapped mixer for an Ecler Smac Pro 30
3. added a Denon DNS1000 CD player and decent cans (HD25)
4. added a Pioneer CDJ800
5. sold everything
6. 2 x Technics 1200 mk5's, a DNX300 and Torq Connectiv
7. sold everything
8. Vestax VCI-300 with Serato Itch

Currently - Vestax VCI-100SE Arcade (DJ Tech Tools custom), Audio2, MBP (Traktor Pro 2), AIAIAI TMA-1s, and a pair of Rokit 5"s

Really enjoy the VCI & laptop setup as it all fits into a UDG wheely bag which makes parties and whatnot a lot simpler. Definitely don't want to revisit the days of lugging 1200's and crates of wax to house parties.

6. (shown with speakers I've had since day one which have since migrated to my hifi - M6 by theloudspeakerkit.com.au)

Current setup (not the best picture and you can't see the monitors)
