I've been living in UK for a year and travelled EU before that... the awesome ones I use all the time are:

- www.edreams.com (great for flight comparison searches, on a lot of the other flight comparison sites never find ones this cheap)
- www.travelzoo.com (amazing last minute deals, or deals in general including travel, nights out etc)

Also hostelworld but has been mentioned before.

This is a company called Sandeman's who do free walking tours in most major EU cities... all you do is tip the tour guide a fiver at the end (or more if you really enjoyed it, and less if you're a rude tight ass!). They are great because the tour guides are working off tips so they aren't your usual boring tour guides - also a good way to meet people if you're on your own. I did these is every city they had them and just a great way to see the main cites and get the basic history (I'm no history buff so this is just enough).

Only thing is if you only have 1 or 2 days in a city these will take up about half a day but you don't actually go into any sites, you just go to/outside them and get the basic history eg. unless you have 3 days min in Paris don't bother as I didn't have time to go back to the main places and actually go inside!

You can get plenty of sites on internet. it would be better if you can share where exactly you are going to travel. Few travel sites are limited to some distance. I guess you must be looking for insurance that would cover you whn you are traveling to different and distant places.

Other than that I can only think of ones already listed....I have had great experiences with couchsurfing and I swear by tripadvisor (I don't stay anywhere without looking it up there first!)
