honestly i really wanted this movie to be awesome, and it was well produced, but it was all just a bit too weird and certain scenes did not mesh. for example,

immediately after the "abortion" she finds david and weyland and then completely forgets about her predicament 5 minutes ago. wouldnt you be blasting a shotgun in david's face? then proceed to blast charleez for melting her boyfriend??? why did he poison the guy with the black goo in the first place??

Random bump, I know, but I am just watching the BD and (I'm not sure of the exact time) but, in Ridley's commentary, as they start to explore the alien spacecraft, there is a hilarious rant about fucking dumb inexperienced studio excecs asking "Why did you do this?". Had me in stitches.

Basically saying "I've been making movies since before you were born. I should be able to do whatever the fuck I want."

I was reading about the making of Alien the other day. Apparently at the end he wanted ripely to die and then the alien was going to imitate her voice and send out a distress signal. Studio execs said no. Good on 'em.

Sometimes directors are so wrapped up in their 'vision' they can't recognise a shit idea when it pops into their head.

I finally watched this last night. I liked it. Had some "wtf?" moments, but overall I thought it was good. I think it's biggest problem is it got hyped as an Alien prequel, and let's face it, Alien kicks serious arse and it was a lot of hype to live up to. Plus the term prequel probably took on connotations of "this will tell us exactly how the beginning of Alien came about". I'm glad it didn't. I would have felt a little like my intelligence was being undermined if the movie ended with a bit fat "SEE! THIS HOW THAT SCENE WHERE THEY INTERCEPT THE TRANSMISSION IN THE ORIGINAL ALIEN HAPPENED!"

Anyway, overall verdict: 7/10

Prometheus 2 could be good (and even make P1 better) if they actually sit down, engage the logic part of their brains, and create a story that makes fucking sense.
