Longest period without sleep / record
I was surprised to read that the World record for intentionally going without sleep is 11 days, in 1964, which doesnt seem that long, i thought it would be longer ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_G...cord_holder%29
Me thinks i have found another goal to attain.

Ive possibly gone 50 hours before i wanted to start punching someone. What' the longest you have gone without sleep ?

One time I stayed up 4 days trying to break the longest dj set record. Hang on I actually just read about that here, whatever happened with that anyway?

At Glastonbury I think I worked out that I actually connected with time and followed it at its own speed therefore not actually moving forward or backwards but stationary in times perpetual flow. I think I worked out that even though I was perfectly conscious, I didn’t stay awake at all apart from the second that I realised that I thought about it. So to answer your question - I think it was a pretty long time.

You can slow your movement down through spacetime (e.g travelling close to light speed) ... but as yet, we've not managed to go backwards.

That said though, the laws of physics, both quantum and relativistic, are not asymmetrical in their application across time. They apply equally going forward in time as they do backwards ... apart from entropy ... that has a habit of increasing as time moves forward ... sometimes raising the question as to whether the constant march forward time is responsible for increasing entropy or if increasing entropy is the cause of time constantly marching forward.

I've stayed awake for 48 hours (gak assisted). I felt shit, my skin felt like it was being irritated by air and my face resembled the Sith Lord Darth Sidious.

Never again.

I realized that there's no shame in telling friends to fuck off and going home and having a shower, a flog and a sleep.

Could be true, but world records of that nature allow for sleep/rest breaks

I've come in around the 55 hours mark, it was awful, shit, painful, would never do it again...

I’m kind of glad I didn’t bump into you there otherwise we would still probably be conversing about such things.

About 45 hours...
Flying back from Chile...

You fly Santiago > Buenas Aires > Auckland > Sydney.

There were a few plane issues, broken compass, lack of fuel etc...
we ended up flying Santiago > Buenas Aires > ushuaia (most southern part of the world till you hit antartica) > Auckland > Sydney.

The detour down south added another 10 hours to the journey

how does everything around here always turn into a discussion/argument about metaphysics and the space-time continuum?

Clearly ITM needs to broaden its focus from edm etc....

ive done about 80 hours with only about 4 hours of naps in total in that time, had 4 uni assignments due in 3 days and had to get em all done. That was only assisted by 4 cans of V on the last 2 days.

I've done double allnighters for uni before, so in total around 60 hours with no sleep. Usually by the end my vision is wavering and I have a lot of trouble concentrating.

Some of those fuckers at the Hard Trance nights could go for weeks.

I once heard one of them say, "I'm so excited. It's only 1 more sleep until Xmas".

It was April.

Someone is having a conversation with you. You know it's english, and they are speaking clearly. You hear the words, you may even understand some of them. The words together, they just wash through you. They make no sense. I wish that fucking bird would stop chirping.

Biz did that once, I had to break it up with a good 8 hours in the middle somewhere and when I came back to the bender she was still going, and kept going till stumps. (we started on a thursday)

she did it with assistance, but not massive amounts. Machine.

People unfortunaet eenough to have this disease dont sleep for 3 months before going mad.... but its not voluntary so i suppose it doesnt count...

Thing is once the symtoms kick in you know exactly whats going to happen.... a very slow painful death.....

Fatal familial insomnia

Fatal familial insomnia (FFI) is a very rare autosomal dominant inherited prion disease of the brain. It is almost always caused by a mutation to the protein PrPC, but it can also develop spontaneously in patients without the inherited mutation in a variant called sporadic fatal insomnia (SFI). The mutated protein, called PrPSc, has been found in just 40 families worldwide, affecting about 100 people; if only one parent has the gene, the offspring have a 50% chance of inheriting it and developing the disease. The disease's genesis and the patient's progression into complete sleeplessness is untreatable and ultimately fatal. The first recorded victim was an Italian man, deceased in Venice in the year 1765

The age of onset is variable, ranging from 35 to 60, with an average of 50. However the disease tends to prominently occur in later years, primarily following childbirth. The disease can be detected prior to onset by genetic testing.[5] Death usually occurs between 7 and 36 months from onset. The presentation of the disease varies considerably from person to person, even among patients from within the same family.

The disease has four stages, taking 7 to 18 months to run its course:

The patient suffers increasing insomnia, resulting in panic attacks, paranoia, and phobias. This stage lasts for about four months.
Hallucinations and panic attacks become noticeable, continuing for about five months.
Complete inability to sleep is followed by rapid loss of weight. This lasts for about three months.
Dementia, during which the patient becomes unresponsive or mute over the course of six months. This is the final progression of the disease, after which death follows.

Other symptoms include profuse sweating, pinprick pupils, the sudden entrance into menopause for women and impotence for men, neck stiffness, and elevation of blood pressure and heart rate. Constipation is common as well.

About 80 hr Unassisted

When I moved to Canada for the ski season I had 44 hours of flight time between Sydney and Calgary, Sydney - Brisbane - Los Angeles - Phoenix - Calgary. Which I didn't fall asleep. Due to the fact I had some really close connecting flight and was paranoid about being robbed while trying to sleep in the terminal (happened before).
This was after being awake for 24 hours because I thought if I worked all day and spent the night packing at the last minute it would help me sleep on the plane...
Then I caught a greyhound to lake louise and decided since it was 10 in the morning, I was going to go skiing..
skied the rest of the day till 4.
Not happy yet I went to the local store to get some food, went back to the lodge, cooked, ate, went to lay down at about 7pm.

At this point all the Universes secrets were revealed to me and I no longer existed in space or time. I was a singularity, part of everything and non-existing at the same time. In many ways I was God.

woke up at 3pm the next day...

Assisted and for years I used to do 96 - 120 awake and sleep like I was dead for the remainder and they were really fun times and I did look after my diet..maybe a week in every month I could only go 72hrs without getting upset.. I can do 2-4 hrs a night of sleep and go on for a week until I drink myself to sleep on the weekend = insomnia. These days naturally I can only do about 36 hours as I am getting old.I really wish I could sleep properly.

Edit: I should add those 4-5s of staying awake were 10 years ago...

Longest period without sleep / record
I thought they lasted about a week...if it bleeds for longer then that you gotta go to the doctor.

You definitely need your sleep and I wouldn't recommend recording it, things are volatile enough during that time..

See you guys always went longer with no sleep, mine is 52 hrs straight, although there was 51 hrs straight at the end of a 5 hrs sleep over 112 hr period.
That went work Wed night, then a little sleep(i think 3-4 hrs), then uni Thurs, work Thurs night followed by Funktrust, then Balmain Shores, then Uni Fri for 4th yr assessment worth 70%, then work Fri night, then out, then a little sleep(i think 1-1.5 hrs), then work Sat night, then out, then play baseball Sun morn, then Harbourlife 04, then Yu, then home and die sometime around midday Mon.

My schoolies cruise was 18 hrs sleep over 9 night period with the last 30 or so hrs no sleep, that was with only alcohol and lots of it.
