Yep, clean mixes, in key, tidy albeit short.

Not much one's got to play with when one's mixing "anthems" with 8 bar intros before the break.

Never heard him mix any other style though.

Pee Wee and Nik Fish are both top mixers (Pee Wee would come out on top), though just a shame they didn't explore their styles moreso (Nik Fish a real let down on that front).

I'd pick top tunes, fresh tunes, tunes that took you places that weren't going to show up in the next set in a different order, though the mixibng might be off, over mundane same ol' sh!t mixed with precision.

But I'm a music man. The DJs just the jukebox.

If FileFront & Streamload wasn't playing up I'd up a Nik Fish tape full of quality german trance which is mixed with precision my friend!

Additionally I've got 10 of Minsky's tapes ready for upload but FileFront is the only go for me, mainly because there is no storage and time limits (I refuse to use other sites... sorry).

Nice one. Which one is it? Nik Fish vs DJ Edge (circa 1994) by any chance?

If I knew more about how internets work, and how much it'd cost, I'd host 'em myself.

I take it, things start getting pretty pricey once you have people leaching hundreds of 100MB sets from your server?

And this thread...

...has perked up again. Looks like we might have another contributor.

Angus if you are *the* DJ Angus then ->from an unbiased point of view *you* mate! lol... Those nights at the beat were incomparable...

And I am begging you -> digitise your old tapes! Any of them... I for one would gladly pay for any of your old mixes .You realise how impossible it is to get any of the old nrg peak stuff?? lol - apart from the cd, which I have, but I am dying to get the earlier stuff...

Hey you still stay in touch with Freak (i.e. paul smith) or Melissa & Gordana?

Cheers,

That's the one, I actually think it is probably Nik's best pre 95 mix (pitty it's only 45mins long).

It's really starting to aggravate me that my two prefered hosting vendors are both down!!!!

Woo hoo!!!

I'm stock to the brim with tape conversions though!!! Do you think if any noobies require help, you could ask them to dump them as waves and send them to you on a DVD for clean-up?

I'd love to do everyones, but with work and my other half complaining about my affair with my putie.....

Well you get the picture

Hey, of course!

If anyone has ol' tapes, please PM me we'll work something out.

The downside is I don't have my trusty tape deck with me. If they can at least record it into a computer with reasonable levels and no clipping, I can take it from there.

Again, if anyone wants assistance with this, post away.

Hey Spectrum

That would be me - I have tapes that I'm currently ripping - or attempting to anyway - I'm doing my first one as we speak so we shall see how it goes - it's a bit basey so it probably does need a cleanup but I'll see what the finished product is like - I've got mp3gain so I can check if there is any clipping...

If you feel you'd like a hand with it, shoot me a PM.

Man this thread brings back memories.

If anyone is interested i have loads of the old mix tapes here. I will compile a list but they are mainly Nik Fish, Jumping Jack, Early Abel Tapes and a few i did - High NRG & Strawberry Fields Live. Would be great to have them on CD as i dont use Tape anymore

I also got FOD 4, Happy Valley 2 & Flashbacks Videos as well and will lend them to someone who is willing to put it onto DVD for me.

There's some great early morning footage on there of Happy Valley 3 including the magic sunrise, and Prodigy 5 night/morning.

To get it onto a digital format, you'll need a video capture card on a PC. It's not something most people will have unless they really are after that sort of thing.

If you can dub VHS to VHS, I'd happily pay for your troubles. Too bad I can't digitise video (or play VHS for that matter).

There are plenty of people on ITM who would love to see FOD4 also. There was a thread on the Sydney forum, many promises, however, it never came to fruition.

In the mid-90s at least, Shade was one of the best: played great tunes at the right time, mixing them flawlessly and scratching like a demon. Few other regular rave DJs equalled that scratching!

2 True Masters Of Our Time
Without a doubt, WILL E TELL.

He was way beyond our time.

A master of his domain, Will E Tell can never be matched. He holds such a high presence in this scene, no one even comes close to touching the magic of his force. He is sadly missed. I long for his return.....

And not to forget, CARL COX!
I have never known what a perfect set sounded like. Now i know.
Unbelievable. He is, THE world's BEST DJ.

Seiously Shade was rocking the place in Sydney as far back as 92-93 at Humphrey's on Thurdays at the Roundabout every week and I think aprt from Pee Wee he was the only DJ that could seriously mix on beat at the time and his scratching & tricky stuff was a first as far as I can remember in the rave scene in Sydney!!!

My fave's would have to be...... Pee Wee, Shade and later probably Angus as they were the only one's that could clearly hold a mix for a long period of time (more than 10 seconds) without it getting painful on the ears not to mention some other catastrophies others forced upon us!!!

Here's my 20 cents worth:

Sydney:
Pee Wee Ferris - Will always be No1 (actually all the Ferris boys are up there)
Paul Holden
Sugar Ray and Phil Smart - Long live Reachin'
Ming D (pre-goa)
Abel and Jumping Jack
Paul 'Flex' Taylor .... ahhhhh yum!
Jade/Spellbound/Jason Papa smurf/fenix - a combo for all their hands-in-the-air, morning anthem sets

national:
Angus (Bris not Adel)
MPK
Richie Rich

I still reckon hardcore was the death of raves in Sydney. Don't get me started on 'Let it out 94' ...

Does it have to be Aussie DJ's? If not I think DJ Paul and Scott Brown rate a mention. I have a few of their DJ mix tapes circa 94 that I still love listening to. One of the Scott Brown tapes is a live set from a Brisbane rave and IMHO it is awesome (if you don't mind hardish techno and MC's during sets)

As an Aussie Akira rates a mention as a great up and coming DJ back in the day (until be dissapeared)

Ah, the old Crisis, eh? Some people would flame you for liking Crisis and Vagas, but I really did too. I think Crisis might have been the first true hard trance DJ in some ways.
Astride my horse I soar. He trots the air; the earth sings when he touches it; the horn of his hoof is more musical than the pipe of Hermes. He is pure air and fire; the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him. His neigh is the bidding of a monarch, and his countenance enforces homage.

Re: Crisis.

As has been said before, great tunage, rubbish mixes.

However, getting to hear some of the best tracks on the planet that other people weren't playing, at a time when the majority (DJs included) were obsessed with the same 20 odd italian-esque anthems, which hardly take one anywhere musically, Crisis was an innovator for Sydney during the early to mid 90s.

Such a shame his mixing was quite often woeful. I still absolutely dig much of the tracks he sourced.

Nah just jokes

Pee Wee Ferris
Paul Holden
Chris Fresh (even though.. Paul & Chris tended to play the same stuff)
Angus (ooh 3 deck goodness)
Archie.

I liked Nik Fish @ the time but only cos everyone else did and I was young and impressionable. I never had whistles or glowsticks and never danced while sucking on a chupa chup after i watched some girl accidently gag on it and yak all over the floor. mm.

I use to get excited about seeing KC play. Just for entertainment value. I remember he was doing a tricks set and I said "Whats he going to do next? Scratch with his head?" And then he scratched with his head.

But yeah Paul Holden... Slow and clean. Shade is Legend also. True genius.

Anyone remember a guy went by the name Wizard? I remember he used to play a ripper set, mainly because he would dance harder than most of the crowd whilst behind the decks. I remember this distinctly at the morning of Tribal 2 outdoor. Obviously the dancing DJ thing never took off.
