Debz whereabouts is your orthodontist?? I have been considering getting invisalign but was worried about the 10k cost!!

He's actually a dentist who does orthodontics, but he is listed on the Invisalign website so i thought id give him a go because of that reason.... (i'd been told by orthodontists not to go to a dentist rather than a specialist orthodontist, but i figured, he's 4k cheaper than a specialist ortho and has done the same Invisalign training an orthodontist has done which is obviously recognised worldwide.)

He's located in Rockdale... should be listed under here somewhere: (southern sydney)
http://www.invisalign.com/generalapp...ctors.html#nsw

Dr Robert Selvaraj

I'm sure there would be others that do it cheaper which are located outside of the CBD areas.

I asked him about why he is cheaper than other places, and he said to look at where he is located... his office isnt some huge flashy place and the rent doesnt cost him much ... when i went to the place at Chatswood for the expensive 10k quote, they told me the same thing - that their rent was high and because of their location they might cost more than others.

just checked an email i got back from another dentist when i had been enquiring about it also - one in Monterey quoted me between 3k to 6k depending on length of treatment. Definitely ring around and get prices - they will usually all say "oh it really depends, youll need to come in for a consultation first" .. if they say that just say "just want a rough estimate because i dont want to come in for a consultation if you cant give me a rough figure" - the one i'm going to quoted me up to 6k via email though and didnt have any problems with telling me the costs straight up.

i'm going to try and talk my way out of not having 4 teeth pulled - one a problem root canal tooth which may or may not last many years. and the other 3 wisdom teeth just to even things up.

i'm trying to keep the costs down as much as possible - how much does getting teeth removed + anesthetic etc cost? in the 1000's i'm guessing? my ortho didn't give me any figures on that one.

no its not that much iam pretty sure, i was only young and my mum and dad paid for it though so i was lucky, but yeah i am pretty sure the teeth pulling is pretty cheap.

although

i did have mine pulled out by a complete (to many swear words) who got the needle stuk inbetween my teeth after he jabbed it in so far it became stuck and he had to go and get pliers to remove it, plus he managed to get it stuck again in another pair of teeth making me want to grab his needle and stab him plus he managed to hit every nerve that was located in my gums the (to many swear words),

they feel great today! however that doctor is dead now strangly enough!

p.s hope you aint turned off now.

yeah having teeth pulled out bites. especially the numb feeling you get from the local anaesthetic. i couldn't feel anything to i was hitting myself in the face. later when the anaesthetic wore off, i felt it.

But the whole idea of having teeth pulled out is to make room for the teeth that are being straightened out.. Why would you try to talk your way out of it? You're going to be spending thousands anyway, don't you want them perfect after all that? I know I do. I had to get my wisdom teeth removed before I could get braces and thank god I did - no way would there have been room for them all, plus it would have left me with big buck horse teeth if they had just tried to work around them.

you'd have to get the teeth pulled out by a dentist wouldnt you? not an ortho.. i dont think they do that part of the work for you, that i know of.

a workmate of mine regrets getting some teeth pulled out before getting braces, even though she probably had to do it anyway because of jaw space... she says the shape of her lips/mouth changed to a shape she doesnt really like... and whenever you get teeth removed it always takes ages to fill the gaps... she said she tried to avoid smiling for ages.

my orthodontist organised for me to get enough teeth pulled out, so that my wisdom teeth would settle into their place, and i wouldn't have to get them pulled out.

yeah i have the clear plastic ones you get after you take off your braces. you are to wear them day and night, then just at night but i was lazy and didn't hence my teeth moving.

it would be a better idea if they just put a permanent metal one for a while after braces to stop you ruining your teeth.

i ended up going dentist yesterday and he wasn't impressed. i said my plates were cutting my tongue that's why i hadn't been wearing them so he trimmed the plastic now i have no excuse. have to go back in 6 weeks and have some metal bonded to my front teeth

ooh you be a lucky one not to have them pulled, i wasnt going to mention this before as the chick gettn the braces may have shited themsleves but it feels like you jaw is being ripped out when the doctor removes them, you actually think he isnt going to get themout until he has his leg up on you chest and finally pop! the sad thing after that is theres still four to go! argh

lucky though you only had the littles ones out, not as sdeep but they still hurt!

actually i think i had like 8 teeth removed icnt rememeber.

my workmate just got her braces off after 4 years (she got teeth removed so it took longer to close the gaps up and her ortho wouldnt let her take them off til they were perfect! lol) and she got the clear plastic plate - im thinking my invisalign might be the same thing - she said they were really painful though and couldnt keep them in they were hurting her teeth so much - she thinks it could be because her teeth may have started moving as soon as she got the braces removed and it was a couple of days before she started wearing the plate. She is getting a wire one soon though to replace it, the plastic ones are just temporary.

yeah teeth move straight away. i got the mould done as soon as they took braces off and went to pick it up a week later. unfortunately they fucked it up and had to take a second mould. in that week i formed a little gap in my front teeth so now even if i wear the plate, the front little gap won't close.. but i kinda like it a bit. that's why my dentist (who i finally figured out after 6yrs of seeing him, who he reminds me of. willy wonka.) anyway, he wants to bond my front to teeth so they wont seperate. oh the joy.

i like gross teeth stories though. this chick at school had a tooth growing in the roof of her mouth so they had to slit the roof and attach a thin chain (like a really thin necklace) to get the tooth to come out slowly. everytime she opended her mouth all i saw was this chain hanging. i don't know how she went on the give head, eat, kiss etc lol

this other girl got her braces on in yr 6. then came yr 7.. yr 8.. yr 12 and she STILL had them on. she had shocking teeth and had like 6 pulled out first cause she had so many extras in her mouth.

ok that's my story for the day. the end.

Just needing to have a bitch..

I am so sick of these stupid things!!!!! Need to get rid of them - NOW preferably!!! Anyone else in a similar state? Almost two and a half years with these fuckers in my mouth and they still won't give me an end date.. It's funny, the first two years were frustrating but I could see that my teeth still needed heaps of work so it was bearable, but now my teeth look perfect, my bite is good and yet I can just tell that my appointment next week will bring nothing but bad news.. Elastic bands forever..

I want them off for Christmas and New Year and Field Day. I want them off so I can finally start feeling attractive again. I want them off so I can sleep with my mouth closed and not be in constant discomfort all of the time. I want them off so I can clean and floss without it being this huge ritual every morning and night. I want to be able to bite into a sandwich and not carry the remains in my teeth all day. I want to be able to go on a dinner date and be able to talk between mouthfuls of food without worrying about accidentally spitting the contents of my last mouthful onto my date.

Does invisilign make this easier for the lucky ones who are able to take advantage of the treatment? I tell you, my kids are getting them when they're 11 so they don't have to worry about seeing in their 27th birthday with them still fucking on!!!!!!!!!!!

Have been told today that I will be getting my braces off in 2 months (four days before my birthday).. It feels like forever to still wait, but now I can honestly look forward to my next appointment That will make it 2 years and 8 months of braces. Pretty standard from what I hear?

In the meantime I still have these stupid elastics - but not for long!!!!!!! I cannot wait.

Oh thanks for bringing up this thread... i forgot about it

i got my Invisalign 2 weeks ago, going back to my dentist this afternoon for an appointment for my 2nd lot of plates and make sure everything is going smoothly.

At first it took a while to get used to talking with them in and also i had ulcers in my mouth for a few days.. and my teeth sometimes hurt in the mornings but thats a sign that the plates are working ... i'm not sure if the same thing will happen each time i change the plates (with the ulcers etc, may have just been the first lot) but at least i know now how to talk better with them in now. Its bnot really all that bad.. its just a bit gross having to take them out to eat etc And ppl cant even tell i'm wearing them unless i point it out. yay!

Ended up being able to get the express treatment which only goes for 20 weeks.. w00t

I've gotta get braces back on my bottom teeth at some point soon >.< my bottom row of teeth have moved considerably since my wisdom teeth came through to the party. Fortunately they came up nice and straight, but in doing so moved my middle teeth over one and other. annoying :E

also anyone with braces atm or planning to get them, ask your dentist (ortho) about getting a bond on your bottom four teeth once you get your bottom braces off.
it's a very simple bar that just alligns ur bottom middle teeth and avoids dramas such as mine..
and others not wearing their retainers :p

Unfortunately the ulcers seems to be a hazard for both treatments then.. I have scars on the inside of my mouth from the wires and springs etc.

Congrats Debz! Sounds pretty cool that it's only 20 weeks and all going well. Your teeth will hurt as they move, am pretty sure that's the point From what I can see, the Invisalign plates look like the retainer I will be getting.. Maybe I am moving from one type of braces to another??

Asmo, to be honest I am really looking forward to not having to have anything bonded to my teeth.. That's why I am counting down...

Does anyone know what the cost would be for an orthodontic plate?

I had braces as a teenager and have to wear a plate at night once or twice a week as my front teeth are inclined to move, except I cant find it... I think I might have knocked it on the floor and the cleaner threw it out.

Any recommendations for a good orthodontist in Sydney (close to city)?

But wouldn't an orthodontic plan be beneficial if one required braces?

Seems logical to me.

I'd like to know more about orthodontic plans. Braces are very expensive, so any kind of scheme that may reduce to cost of braces sounds interesting. Are said orthodontic plans available from insurers?

They have been used for ages. Its said that nice teeth are one thing that goes in the basket of stuff that, can boost one's chances in life in the occupational setting as we are a very image and appearance-conscious society as well as the fact that they project a certain sort of message [good teeth] about your socioeconomic status and class and show that you're not from the bottom of the pile. Class and appearance do still influence stuff, perhaps unfairly, but nonetheless its significant in a number of occupational settings.

My mrs is about to get braces, age 24. I'm paying for them. Scares me how much they are going to cost lol. She wanted the clear ones but wasn't able to get them for her teeth. Apparently they only work with certain things that need fixing.

I've had mine on over 12 months now. My teeth were fucked and I could still get the clear ones on my top teeth. Metal on the bottom though but that's only coz my bite was so bad that I'd chomp the clear ones off if they were on the bottom

NFI why she can't get clear ones, what certain things are they 'supposed' to do besides straighten your teeth?

well, there's no point getting the clear ones if your teeth are yellow.
