Behringer B-Control DEEJAY BCD2000
Warning: Bare with me people!

So i dont mind having a muck around with Ableton and Virtual DJ in my spare time but using a keyboard and mouse to mix makes me sad. I'm stupidly poor (uni) and looking at getting a mixer/midi controller to use with my laptop. Having a look at this as it fits the budget and I really don't want anything flash at the moment.

Few questions:
1. Do i need to get an external soundcard to use this?
2. Will it work with Ableton so i can use 2 channels?
3. Do i need a mixer as well?

Sorry about the noob questions but please give me some constructive feedback. Link below

read the specifications and you'll be amazed at what you learn

have a look around for some other midi controllers that are essentually a box of knobs and sliders, the BCD attempts to be the solution to everyone's problems.... and being behringer kuality it fails in most aspects.

it will break. it will sound average.

but if you want something to fuck around with and look good infront of your mates, then go ahead they're a lot of fun... but they're not a serious unit

I'm getting one along with some midi translator software, $250 is too good not to grab one and muck around with.

Its actually a damn fine controller for traktor. i would use another audio interface though.
Do you want to get it to work with serato???
Would be curious to see how it pans out. Keep us posted

I'm new to Midi, is this possible?

I have SSL, 2 x 1200s and my laptop.

If I hooked the BCD2000 up to the laptop via USB but didn't route my decks through it, can I still map all the Midi functions to Serato?

ie using the buttons on the BDC to punch in and out of loops, hit little reverses and stuff?

If you guys had my setup (2 x decks, SSL, DXM06) how would you integrate this unit into your setup?

Maybe I need a new 4 channel mixer so I can have 2 x 1200s and SSL, and then 2 x virtual decks + FX from the BDC or so I can have 2 x 1200s and then drop Midi loops and samples from Ableton or Traktor over the top of my mix.

A mate got his yesterday and sent me a quick vid of him mixing a loop (autoquantitized no less) over a track with a hi-pass filter on one channel and a low-pass filter on the other, both with custom parameters, I mean WTF for $250 this could possibly be the best DJ toy ever!

I cant wait until mine gets here, even if it just sits connected to the home stereo so I can get up and drop fx and samples over my favourite songs it'll be worth it, although I might consider getting a 3-channel mixer so I have 2 decks with serato and the BCD as my third source. Plenty of usage options to consider.

that baby is serato all in one!!! Quite a step down though in a few aspects!

I wonder if you can buy vinyl like mspinky and mspinky software, set your playlists in the software interface and use the intergrated usb 4 channel on the BCD like seratos amp!?? Using two Tunrtable decks to scratch like serato but through the bcd2000?

Actually you cant i just realized, the BCD acts as the turntables like the turntables on SSL!! there ya go lads.

I'm not sure, but I think what you could do is have 2 decks, this mixer, mspinky vinyl and software and then map the mspinky track selection functions to the mixer, so you could use the mixer to cycle through the songs and add them to the decks + all the builtin fx of this unit, which is still fairly cool for only $250.

IN THE REDS!
This unit is dirt cheap, and even though I'm looking to buy a comprehensive MIDI controller, I'm sure some interesting usage could be had out of using it for something other than controlling DJ software.
Time to look at the manual and see how deep we can dig with it.

Yeah it really takes a bit of digging too.

So far I've seen some really great templates for using this with Traktor, DJdecks, Ableton and Serato but it can take a little bit of stuffing around with third-party apps to get all the functions mapped. Specifically Midiyoke and BOMEs Midi Translator to get all the scratching functions form the jog-wheels.

yeah this midi for the masses thing behringer is into works for me. and, once again, like to point out I've had a BCF pretty much since it came out and I'm still waiting for it to either fuck up or for the ****s pointing it down because behringer happen to make really shit audio gear to shut up. Their midi controllers are fucking great. buy one, it's not like under $300 bucks is a lot of money for a chance to tell me I'm telling lies.

BCD2000 get!

I cant hook it up to a PC until tonight but first impressions are SOLID. The knobs have a great feel, cross-fader is nice and light, the only thing I'd say is that the channel faders could use a little more resistance, I'd hate to accidentally bump one in the mix.

I'll probably have a quick bash with the supplied BDJ software first but I think I'll be moving onto setting it up Traktor pretty soon. Proper impressions later.
Fear my latest tune.

yeh a good lil piece of goodness. not only for mixin aswell, but as a midi controller aswell which i love! for the price this machine is insane for what u can do with it! yeh the direct x supprt is fantastic, so u dont have to limit urself to standard mixer fx like flanger, delay etc. as it also has a microphone input u can use the machine as a vocoder aswell! behringer mixing program that comes with it is ok.....but im using traktor 3 for it and it owns. im suprised none of u have gotten one sooner! definately a lil toy to have not to mention u can rig up 2 external cdjs or turntables with it , and use it as a mixer with full direct x plug in capability for fx, the possibilities are endless yall!

i'm gettin one, no money, but ill put on layby.

Ive jus tread specs, its a four channel audio interface, and it has two phono preamps.

So you should be able to hook it up to ur compter, ad use ms pinky and timecoded vinyl to control digital audio, ala SSl. Or am i missing something?

well i mean i havnt used one, but i reckon theres a bit of latency if your comparing it to scratch live or better soundcards i bet theres a difference, plus ive been told you couldnt use it for a live gig as it wouldnt be suitable due to its slightly slow reaction time, roomer has it...........but hey you say its good it must be good!

Had a quick bash on the BDJ software last night and using the BCD is AWESOME FUN! Loops n fx are easy to use and sound great, especially the loop-halving ala Fatboy.

I didnt have any latency issues either but I'm gonna be setting it up with Traktor 3 today anyway as the BDJ software was doing some weird things with a few of my MP3s.

Well this unit is great so far, and colour me surprised but I've had no issues at all with the BDJ software either. I did a 40 minute mix last night using the inbuilt recording feature which turned out fine and the loops and fx are all ace.

Couple of small samples, nothing meant to be sounding too pro at this stage just fuckin around...

Using a beatchop and flanger on that coldplay remix (200k)

http://home.exetel.com.au/djfusion/html/beatwawreck.mp3

Loopin it up with an old style rock remix (800k)

http://home.exetel.com.au/djfusion/html/loopsnfx.mp3

Still working out Traktor settings at the moment but I'm nothing but impressed with this unit, for $250 it can do some real damage to your tunes and its damn fun to muck around on.

Does anything music-production-based that relies on efficiency and low latency work with Virtual PC?

re: does it work with mac?

not yet, from what I can gather using a little known search engine called google (hidden away at www.google.com) Behringer plan to release core audio support in 4th quarter 2006. Given Behringer's typical delays between touted release dates and actual ones for just about everything that starts with a B, you can take it to the bank you should have core audio suport via driver upgrade some time in 2008. but do check back with behringer around the end of the year anyway.

BCD + B-DJ software with http://www.antarestech.com/products/filter.shtml =

I now have that midi-synched to the bpm counter on the BCD, all assignable to the 4 midi knobs and this thing just became so much more powerfuler!! I haven't tried anything too complex with it though (coz I dont know how) so Im certainly not testing the filters limits (pun intended ) but so far it's all .
Fear my latest tune.

Trying to imitate the JZ scratch on the BCD

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.ph...055C1C318A0503

although its hard to keep my beatcutting and wah midisynched when Im scratching coz the loop sampler doesn't sample the effects, just the loop.

If you listened to The Club on JJJ on Friday night you might have heard a mix by Ian Nearhos (this mix in fact: http://segwist.com/?p=5 ) which was an ableton mix done with the BCD as interface and controller. Its interesting to watch it used live given the prejudice typical of Behringer gear but no, theres no crippling latency. I know people want to believe its a complete toy but it works, its stable and it sounds good. It has its limits but thats up to the user. Ian hasnt had problems with it at any recent gig (aside from what we all do sometime... plug our interface in a different port and watch the drivers go crazy). But anyway, tried and tested week in and week out. Does the job. Shame about the mapping of the controllers though.
