The latest version of the BDJ software has just been released:

Some of the new features/improvements:

* new HQ Master Tempo
* new HQ beat-sync algorithm
* unlimited lists number
* disk explorer (browser)
* support for M4A(aac) and MP4 songs ( only if iTunes is installed -- www.apple.com/itunes )
* when iTunes is installed even the mp3s with problems load ok
* equalizer band-frequencies adjusted ( 20Hz-320Hz low; 320-4.2KHz mid; 4.2KHz-22KHz high )
* additional stability bug fixes

http://www.xylio.com/site/index.php?...nu.html&rpage=

edit - great update, the new EQs roll off beautifully.

Guys what is latency?

Fusion you look like you know all on this product so when it finally arrives I might have to pick your brain as I'm a MASSIVE music/dj novice

By the way I got mine for $236.95 off eBay brand new from DJ City.

Latency is the amount of time between performing an action and the action being completed.

Ie: you move a fader/ knob and the on screen display/ or desired response to sound happens shortly after.

Cruisy let me know when you get yours, I'll send you some great directX effects for it and help you out with its little quirks.

Bogan, they aren't changing the hardware and I doubt it'll get much cheaper than $250, if you're keen you may as well jump in now.

I was wondering how many of you had this set-up with Traktor? I was thinking it would be a good all-in-one unit for mixing mp3s. I have done a bit of research and it seems like it is a pain in the ass to set-up. Does anyone have it set-up excactly how they want with jog wheels set for scratching/cueing?

Also how does this go with use in Cubase and Albeton Live. Is it easy to set-up for controlling vst's? And will there be any conflicts if using the FA-101 with keyboard as a midi controller and the bcd2000 as a midi controller as well or are you only able to use one midi device at a time?

I have it set up in traktor exactly like I want it to be. Jogs work well. If your after a way to make it work, I can post a small zip file that includes everything needed to have it set up in a pretty useful way. Only problem is ill have limited internet access over the next month, so you may have to wait.

So with latency, does that have anything to do with the speed of your computer or it just has to do with your midi controller and the quality of mp3's you use?

Cause my computer has fckall spare memory and runs pretty slowish compared to modern ones

Would be a bit of a mix but the computer speed would be the major problem. What are your computer specs? eg. cpu, ram, hdd etc

Yeah definitely a mix, latency isnt that important though, unless you're Q-Bert there isn't a lot of real-world difference between 4ms and 10ms.

I'll check it when I get home, but it's fkn shite!! It's soooo old

Approx on memory space

C Drive 40Gb Capacity - Free Space = 32Gb
D Drive 80Gb Capacity - Free Space = 700meg
G Drive 40Gb Capacity - Free Space = 2Gb

So i'm not doing myself any favours with the free space

As dumb as it sounds how do I check my specs when I get home? (As you can tell i'm no computer wizz!)

Seems like a decent computer, will do the job with the BCD2000. Are you experiencing any latency? Example, a delay between shifting the fader up quickly and the sound coming out of the speakers?

No i'm not. How long will the delay be? I'm going to try and learn how to beatmatch/dj on this BCD2000. With latency I fear that maybe this might be really hard work?

Get a stop watch out and try and stop it at 10ms and you'll see how little latency will effect your mixing.

Do I have to go out and buy some new audio cables to run from the BCD 2000 to my Stereo?

I thought I could just use the same cord that I run from my stereo-computer when playing my music through AUX on the stereo. Will this do the trick?

Yeh pretty sure you will need a new cord. 2 Red and White to 2 Red and White. Thats an easy way to put it.

So I finally got it. And I couldn't work out why it wasn't working, but then I hadn't installed Direct X 8.1

Finally got it working.

But one problem i've had is sometimes it sort of skips/stops the tracks. It's as though the processor semi-freezes for a split second, I was thinking this is because maybe all my songs are on a 80gb hard drive which has only 800meg free. Stupid I know. So I thought maybe if I clear that all up and theres more free space it'll run better. My computer/windows etc doesn't run off this 80gb hard drive it runs off C:\ which is 40gb with 31gb free. Thats why I thought processing etc wouldnt be a problem

So i've transferred one song folder of house to C:\ and am gunna try and run it through there and hopefully that'll make it go better

Fusion check your pm's, can you send me those things you were going to send me

Quick Q:

What are some alternatives to this that are aiming in a simmilar direction (i.e: Midi Controller as a dj mixer)

the original midi controller dj mixing all-in-one was the hurcules. All reports i have heard indicate that the bcd2000 is much much better and they are around the same pricepoint.
The only other alternative i know of is the Allen and Heath Xone 3d but that is in another world at $4500
Basically the BCD2000 is good enough for basic mixing and abit of lame scratching. It has a kind of toy-like feel to it as it is not built to the sturdiest of specifications. The inbuilt soundcard is rather poor but you can use the computers soundcard or alternative usb/firewire based soundcard.
But in the end for $250 its a great value package.

Fusion I'm having trouble working out how to play the song and then send it back to the first beat that i'm setting the cue at.

Should I not set a cue and then it'll go automatically back to the start of the track?

Just to make it easier to go straight back to the start when trying to beatmatch

Yeah it took me a bit to figure that out. I use back-to-top to quickly jump back to the start of my songs but to set a cue point you need to make sure you have a clear point by choosing one of the blue cue point indicators in the BDJ software, right-clicking and choosing 'delete cue'. Now we know its an empty slot, get your track to where you want your cue and then press the 'cue' button on your BDJ. You'll see the cue light stay on to indicate theres a cue point set for that slot and a red line appears under your song wave-form to show you where in the track your cue point is. Pressing the cue button again at any time while you've got that cue point selected from the blue buttons will make it jump back to the cue. Another way to delete your cue-point is to hold the cue button down for a second or two on your BDJ.

Kind of confusing to write out but it should make sense when you try it.

Okay I think I kinda did that last night in about 20 different combinations and it didn't work, I'll try again when I get home. Do I need to stop the song playing before sending it back to the cue point?

Also with the effects, do you have to load effects onto the machine? It doesn't seem to have any, not that i'm worried cause that'll be the last thing I need to use!

And that file you were gunna send me, what was that for?

Also with beatmatching etc. do you use the pitch slider or do you use the pitch bend buttons + and - ?

Also should I plug my cords into the Master Output or into the Analog Outputs if i'm playing it through a shitty cd player/stereo with no amp? Would this be why it's been glitching when playing songs?

>>>. Do I need to stop the song playing before sending it back to the cue point?

No, shouldn't need to.

>>>Also with the effects, do you have to load effects onto the machine?

Yep.

>>>And that file you were gunna send me, what was that for?

It was some extra directX effects to use.

>>>Also with beatmatching etc. do you use the pitch slider or do you use the pitch bend buttons + and - ?\

I use the pitch slider, and a combination of the pitch bend buttons and/or the jog wheel for fine manual bpm control.

>>Also should I plug my cords into the Master Output or into the Analog Outputs if i'm playing it through a shitty cd player/stereo with no amp? Would this be why it's been glitching when playing songs?

I'm just using the master output, but whatever you use and whatever you plug it into shouldnt have anything to do with your songs glitching, that sounds to me like your PC is just struggling under the load.

Yeah disable any non-essential startup services (start -> run -> msconfig) and see if that helps because your PC is definitely powerful enough to run it without glitches.

Hmm, quick checklist:

latest driver from website
latest xylio software
master tempo box unticked
latency on around 10ms
BCD2000 not selected in the control panel as your playback/recording device
no other apps like bit torrent running in the background
mp3s stored either on the same drive as the software or on a USB2.0 external drive

Maybe try it out on a mates PC to see if its your PC or the unit causing the issue too, past all that I'm not much help soz.

Yeh dude that list covers pretty much everything, I don't see how the mp3's would be skipping if you can't see them skipping on the BDJ software :S . Try another stereo aswell as another computer...
