'The Limpet' Gives One Back (FREE, january 27th, Long weekend)
What's on?
A FREE Limpet is on.

http://www.inthemix.com.au/whatson/e...Gives_One_Back

To thank all the people who have helped the limpet grow to be what it is, we have decided to ‘Give One Back’.

On Sunday January 27th, ‘The Limpet’ will give something back by staging a FREE party at the Alexandria Hotel, Henderson Rd Alexandria. Beats will start at 1pm and continue until close.

What better way to spend the Sunday of a long weekend, than to sit outdoors (or under a marque), have some Food, Drink and listen to quality limpet? The venue has a large seated outdoor area and some very nice food options. It’s also child friendly. So if you have little limpets, bring them along.

To help us relax for the afternoon/evening we have the following selectors dropping summer limpet.

Sub Bass Snarl
Bec Paton
Sinclair
Paresis
Tony Wax vs HC11
Bon Floney
El Lobo

and guests

// ANZAC DAY // FRI 25 APR // WOBBLE Presents N-TYPE (UK)

Wobble proudly presents the mighty N-TYPE!

London - UK

Terrain / Tempa / Dub Police / Rinse.FM / FWD>>

Get ready, Melbourne. You haven't heard it like this before. Heartical HiFi will be in full effect.
We're not messing about: 10k of pure sub bass pressure from Melbourne's only custom built soundsystem.

N-Type smashes every rave he plays at, and he's played them all.
This man has gigs lined up untill October this year already, taking him all over the globe.

N-Type is regarded as the Andy C of dubstep with his lightning-fast, tight-as-fuck mixing.
This led to him being selected to do the Dubstep Allstars Volume 5 mix CD, on the pioneering Tempa imprint, home to names like Hatcha, Skream & Benga.
The mix CD contained a whopping 42 tunes packed into a mere 73 minutes!
His mixing is so heavy that full mixes have been rewound and redone at the seminal dubstep clubnight FWD.

His radio show on the infamous Rinse FM (home to Skream, Dizzee Rascal, and many more) is one of the most listened to weekly shows in dubstep.
Not only for his amazing mixing but absolutely hilarious antics in the studio. Except to hear the chatterbox on the mic on the night, a born performer.

He was recently brought into the BBC Radio One studios by Mary Anne Hobbs, smashing the decks with a mix coming from jungle through the darker side of garage into dubstep; check the video interview & live mixing.

You won't find him using CDJs or Serato either, expect the dancefloor destroyer to drop the freshest 10" dubplates!

Quote:

People once said that dubstep was too slow, dark and sparse to translate to worldwide dancefloors. Of course that was before the acetate addicted and overall sub-sonic miscreant N-Type showed up to prove the doubters so, so wrong.

Combining searing white-hot selection with a 30 dubs-per-hour freestyle mix rate, N-Type’s DJing style takes many cues from legendary garage don EZ, yet it is N-Type’s hyperactivity in the mix which really marks him out from the rest. Where other DJs maintain their traditional surly personae, N-type can be found raving it up in the booth, bobbing with the crowd, and sporting a shower-face of almost comic proportions.

Hailing from deepest Surrey, N-Type has been dubstepping since year dot. Orignally a junglist, then an avid fan of the dark garage sound, he was a regular at FWD>> since its Velvet Rooms days, a long time patron of the now defunct Big Apple record store and a grafter on pirate radio for over 8 years (first Delight FM, then in 2004, Rinse).

Listening to his show on Rinse (every Sunday 11pm-1am GMT) you can’t help but smile too. N Type’s chatterbox delivery is almost as relentless as his selection and he’s just as likely to tell you what he had for dinner as he is to tell you the name of the current dub he’s playing, but it all adds to the charm. Ultimately, it is this unmatched level of infectious enthusiasm that has earned N-type the twin titles of ‘Best DJ’ and ‘Best Radio Show’ on the dubstepforum awards, a coveted FWD>> residency and following that his mixing of the latest instalment in the Dubstep Allstars series.

As dubstep expands way beyond the limits of its core following, the task of transmitting the subsonic virus falls to DJs such as N-Type and with a touring schedule that shows no signs of slowing down- a full on epidemic is just around the corner.

Vocal support on the night will be provided by the extraordinary Dub FX. If you haven't heard of this guy, you best get to know.
Dub FX is a traveling street performer, taking him all over the globe, wowing people everywhere.
A beat boxer with a difference, multitrack recorder, triggering FX via foot pedals. He can build a song in minutes.
Drums, bass, and backing vocals, as well as his amazing voice on top live on the spot! This man has to be seen to be believed! Check him in action.

Also Scotty Hinds from UK Hip Hop crew Nine High will be blessing mic.
His content and flow is world class and perfect over the 140bpm tempo.
Anybody who caught the boys over grime & dubstep at The Laundry last year know this man is on point and the best man for the job.
Check the boys in action on RRR Radio.

Local DJs in support:
AC23, Uptight, Kammo, Leejay & Same'O.

GOTH TRAD - TOKYO JAPAN - LIVE
A unique producer with a unique style, Goth-Trad has emerged from the Japanese electronic scene in the last few years as one of the most
arresting artists from his generation.

In the UK he was invited by Mala to play at the now legendary DMZ night. He became the first artist to play a live show at the event, showcasing his own take on the sound pioneered by so many of the DJs and producers who have appeared on the bill in the past. His eclectic and varied live show received an exceptional reception from the crowd, showing how far his sound had travelled since he started more than ten years ago.

Goth-Trad has spent an equal amount of time developing and refining his sound in the studio as he has live on stage. Making him much more than just a producer who plays DJ sets. His live shows involve a laptop, portable mixing desk and effects units which he uses to recreate his music on stage: tweaking, effecting and evolving the sound in front of the audience. His sets are energetic and mesmerising, always leaving the crowd wanting more. And never twice sounding the same.

HEADROOM - Launch!!! | Harmonic 313 | Some Freak | Bec Paton | Jonny Faith | Monk Fly
Join us for a night of mayhem as we launch our new underground baby (that happens to NOT be a troll), Headroom! Jonny Faith, Bec Paton and Monk Fly got together and nutted out how to throw the party of their wet dreams and this is the result - wild, wonderful, wicked beats from some of our favorite beat-bruisers, an intimate and peculiar venue in which to play, snipers and animal sex, and of course, a gathering of the dopest mofos around, (stop reading if you are not said "dope mofo").

Harmonic 313 (Warp, Global Communication, Jedi Knights, Troubleman,) is also known around here as mystical Mark Pritchard who's DJ sets are always slicker than an oil spill, and for us he has promised a set of his ridiculously fat, minimal, glitchy hip hop sounds.

Some Freak
(Bodega, Red Bull Music Academy), is shortly leaving the country and so being the desperate junkies that we are, needed a hit before the withdrawal sets in. His productions are wild and his DJ sets woolly - shit's gonna be mammoth!

Monk Fly's a total scallywag which is why his wicked prodcuction and music selection will charm the pants off you, (if his gentlemanly moustache doesn't first).

Jonny Faith is an absolute weapon with bombs to drop and scratches that have gotten him a couple of killer Solid Steel mixes to sit with the rest of his arsenal.

Bec Paton is a frequanaught, just returned from getting high-fived by DJ Krush and glowing like the tail-end of space junk on re-entry, (read 'happy that this happened', nothing more!)

You comin'? Cheap and oh so very cheerful ($5 before 11pm and $10 afterwards on the door).

So this Saturday night, kidlets! Don't forget that if you're pov, get there before 11pm for $5 entry, (even though it's still a steal at $10 thereafter).

Set times go a bit like this:

12-1: Harmonic 313
1-2: Bec Paton
2-close: Some Freak

Be there or be less dope.

[melb] Doombient/Noise/Drone @ BeatsNBleeps - Glitch Bar this Fri 20th
Hey guys,

awesome line up this fri for any melbournites after something Glitchiferous

Beats N Bleeps - the bi-monthly experimental night at Glitch Bar & Cinema is on again this Friday night 20th June. This month is all about the drone with musique concrte scene veterans Team Red, doombient noise act abre ojos and ambient legends Normal Science playing in the cinema. DJ's Hesius Dome and Red Eye express in the front bar.

Fri 20th June @ Glitch Bar & Cinema 9.00pm - 1.00am
318 St George's Road North Fitzroy $5 entry

Normal Science's bio reads like a Wikipedia entry- oh wait it is a wiki entry: Normal science is a concept originated by Thomas Samuel Kuhn and elaborated in The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. The term refers to the relatively routine work of scientists experimenting within a paradigm, slowly accumulating detail in accord with established broad theory, not actually challenging or attempting to test the underlying assumptions of that theory. Kuhn identified this mode of science as being a form of "puzzle-solving."
Puzzle solvers since 1994: David Cox, Damien Mason & Martin Sharkey
http://normalscience.net

abre ojos: is Scott Baker who after apprenticing under Alan Lamb and
learning the power of drone, works with analogue modular synthesis to create
tones that resonate beyond the ears to the mind and heart. abre ojos has
evolved to be a audio visual hybrid fusing improvised sound and visuals.
inspired by zombies films, conspiracy theories and hidden truths.
abre ojos is a Portuguese sailing term when moving through dangerous waters
meaning "watch out" or "open your eyes".

Team Red - One day Billy and cam, the 1920's time traveller, were driving along...one of those long crazy days. The time traveller suddenly wound down the driver's window, shoved his clenched fist out in the air, and yelled out "Team Red". Billy, (aka the tard, the filth generaor, the fruit cake,) declared that would be a spiffy name for a band.....then some time later Bill and Cam found themselves collaborating over the internet and in person, and so Team Red was born. Later Bill was dragged along by his cultured German freind Kurtles to La Mama, feeling quite awake after conversing with the dodgy lebanese man, noted that a young gentleman called Jezza described himself as a cartoon and his performance was exactly that. So soon Jezza after sandwiches and fish joined the band, and they went and performed in Wagga Wagga in 2004 and still perform around the place looking to hone their music and perfromance making skills and for love and chicken and love and chicken

For the Brisbane bass-heads...

Dank Morass are incredibly excited to present an exclusive DJ set from the one and only Loefah on Saturday 2nd August at the Step Inn.

A genuine pioneer and innovator of the dubstep sound and key figure in the explosion of the surrounding scene, Loefah, along with Digital Mystikz (Mala and Coki) is the man behind the genres most revered label and club night, DMZ. Having torn the roof off parties across the UK & Europe with his dub and hip hop influenced take on dubstep, he now brings his bag of dubs down under for the very first time.

Joining him on the night will be Rudebwoyz scion Erther, Hard Graft originator Frosty, the entire Dank Morass crew and Forest of Death, who have been behind the recent White Rhino art/beats extravaganzas.

$10 on the door before 10.30pm
$15 on the door after 10.30pm

Fri 15th Aug @ Beats n Bleeps

Welcome Dear Friend http://www.myspace.com/welcomedearfriend
Lynnelle Moran + Dan West have been writing melodies, beats and words for the past few years in between their numerous other projects, stealing moments in the studio and rehearsing wherever we can find the space...including a recent rehearsal in bed.
+ Visuals by Eugenia Lim

Adam Simmons Vs Brian O' Dwyer http://www.myspace.com/bleeemo
Adam Simmons is a multi-instrumentalist playing the full range of saxophones (sopranino to bass), as well as clarinets and flutes, across a broad range of styles - jazz, avant-garde, new music, punk, latin, blues, funk, classical, techno. Accompanied by Brian O' Dwyer on drums and percussion

Rooftop Access http://www.myspace.com/rooftopaccessmusic
We don't have a violin player, we don't shout and scream out of time, we don't wear trendy hipster clothes, we just make nice post-rock with surf guitars and keyboards. Oh yeah, and electronic music too, sometimes.

Jung Frau http://www.myspace.com/blacklungdiaries
Jungfrau is Melbourne based artist Jerome Rebeiro. Using a laptop, guitar, circuit bent/modified instruments and effects Jungfrau creates aural textures that range from soft ambient to harsh noise.

(touch the poster for the whatson)

Hi there!

if you are sitting around, wondering what on earth you should be doing with your thursday evenings now that its getting warm enough to go out, but you still arent sure whether you should break into full festive season swing of things yet...

Let Flunked show you the way.

In a gorgeous courtyard, from 5pm til middnight on Thursday the 18th of September, you can get on down and check on out some really fly music, chill with mates, have a boogie, a smile and still get home at a reasonable hour, without your wallet having been burned by over priced drinks, cover charges and what not...

The selectors of high distinction to distract you from your middweek studious discipline this month are...

Monkfly, who is fresh from launching his new 12" at Headroom last weekend (and a jolly fine slab of wax it is btw), and ready to give the courtyard some lovely bassy, blunted love...

Mikey Miutante, who will add an element of amazing psyche disco to the heart of the city, right when it needs it most...

Aluf - click house with an amazing jazzy and bluesy bent... promises of some tech if the crowd seems up for it too... If you havent seen this guy play yet, get along -- you wont be disapointed.

Typhonic - when he was young, he got a case of the chicken pox he has never really been able to shake, at least psychologically. Twitching, scratching, itching, grooving, moving... dude never stays still behind the decks, and happily, if your experiencing whats going on, its really hard to stand still either, as you get your ghetto booty drum and bassy breaksy bounce on, only to stop every now and again to witness one of the spectactuar scratch juggle "ooh look at me, im a much better dj than Al will ever be" interludes.

Alistair Erskine - isnt as good as typhonic, right... but I think he plays some alright tunes and stuff. Has better taste in music compared to his feelings of awkwardness about writing about himself in the third person. He likes to refer to his music as Radcore, but really we know thats just a mixture of funk, hip hop, electronica and pop. Which is pretty rad when you come to think about it.

So yeah.

Thats the prognosis for Flunked!, this coming Thursday the 18th of September at the Loft at UTS. Its free entry, from 5pm til midnight, 18+ only, the only promise you have to make is that you will bring a smile, and its easy to get to (just near central) so getting home wont be a chore!

See you there, interested, curious and otherwise friendly parties.
