Dj equipment
Hey guys, finally made up my mind that im gonna get some gear, but wasnt sure where to post it, so i thought i would post here, if its in the wrong place, again im sorry, please move it.

I was loooking on djwarehouse.com and found a package that contained
2XPioneer CDJ 100's
1XBehringer VMX 100 mixer
1X DJ pro 50 Headphones
and a technics bag lol.

All for $1190. Umm is this any good for a beginner whos going to be mixing dance music (hardcore mainly)?

I've also been reading on these forums that the CDJ 100's have shit pitch for beat matching?? Why, is all i ask lol???

My budget is up to 1.5K The smaller the better, since i dont have a job lol. If anyone can think of anything better than please post, lol, but i doubt there would be anything better for that price range.

Umm, thanks for your time reading, help is much appreciated, as i have no bloody clue aboutdj equipment.

Mate, anything cheap in mixers will give you grief.

If you want something to last for years, you need to spend at least 1.5k or more on the mixer alone.

I reconsidered, aND AM THINKING OF GETTING cdj 200'S = $1580

tHEN IM LEFT WITH $300 FOR A MIXER. i CAN UPGRADE IF NEEDED IN A YEAR. CAPS

I just want a setup so that i can learn on it and make some alright mixes, then if i actually take up dj'ing as a profession, then ill defiantley upgrade.

I just need something thatll last for a year and a half.......

Possible, with my price range?

bracko ur such a bitch seriously dude get the friggin yellow pages call a bunch of places and hammer them down..it aint hard dude and yes stay away from the 100's had a play on them for the 1st time on nye, fukin nightmare! Another option turntables dude cheap pair of technics for about 900 that leaves you 400 for a mixer and then save 800 for serato The cdj 200's will just piss you off as u cant scratch on them and that is 1/2 the fun

why would a newbie want to spend 1.5k on a mixer, just grab something basic that will work, dxm-06 or the like

if you shop around and not too fussed on effects you should be able to get a cheap second hand djm300... i bought one for $350 a few years ago and it still works perfectly

Well he wants something that'll last, and IMO thats how much you have to spend for it to last.

the cdj 500's are discontinued but assuming everything works, something like this oughta do the trick... just get a pair of speakers and headphones...

I agree you gotta spend good money on equipment and you get what you pay for, but I think 1.5k is a bit excessive... especially for a first mixer...

It is an evolutionary thing. When u can beatmatch which wont take you long to learn you will want to do other things. cdj200's will really limit you and u will end up tryin to sell em real soon. besides if you bought 2nd hand technics and wanted to sell them you would prolly get ur money back. With the cdj's you wouldnt as most ppl wont buy them as they arent that good...better than 100's though.
or u could check these out http://www.inthemix.com.au/forum/sho...d.php?t=187080
or this one http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2-PIONEER-CDJ...QQcmdZViewItem
or just add a mixer 2 this bulletproof cd player http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Denon-DN-2500...QQcmdZViewItem

dear wulvo,

pioneer DJM-300

built like a TANK, dosent have all the FX features of its more expensive siblings but is PERFECT for dj noobs (i learnt on one too :blush

and you can probably get one for a couple hundred bux, 200-300, maybe even 150 if bloody lucky lol

just keep looking on the sale forums or maybe even make a WTB:cheap mixer thread

Yeh i like that mixer Donnie Darko.

I dont want turntables as i have so many cds it seems a waste not to use em lol.

Also, for me to save up more money and buy CDJ whatevers that cost $800 or more is out of he question for me now.

Cause, im hapy to just mix songs and practice on them. Because what ive mainly noticed with me, is that i go throiugh fazes where i want something and then get over it. But, dj'ing feels different lol, so im not to sure. I just mainly want to get down the basics and see how i go from there.

So as i read before, it is possible to haggle down these DJ shops????

because it's cheap package and not bad value especially as a first setup...

don't get too excited over existing CD's.. most of them have radio edits... with shorter intro's and outro's making a lot of tracks unsuitable for mixing... but digital's a hell of a lot cheaqer than vinyl...

as I and Donnie Darko said earlier... DJM300's aren't a bad first mixer... I bought mine second hand a few years ago and aside from a few battle scars it still works perfectly

I'm in the market for a setup aswell. Looking at some CDJ800's and a mixer, probably a dxm06 or 09 or thereabouts. I want the 800's over the 200's because of the scratch capability basically. Definetely going to buy 2nd hand, just waitin for someone to sell some!

avoid cdj 100 like the plague.

I would go 2 x cdj 200

+

dxm06

I sold my dxm06 for more than i paid for it. cdj 200's have excellent pitch incriments.

You won't get much better unless you pay an extra $500 or more imo.

not necessarily, but tracks albums/cds made for listening have shorter intros and outros because they're not made of DJ use...

Ive used many albums for mixing on the comp and i dont find it that much of a bitch.

I just start mixing before the other song starts lol. Sounds shit though.

I will start to dl songs of the net. No probs about that, oi rather pay 1.50 for a song then buy a record for $10.

um

for a beginer the best option is 2 1200's and a shitty two channel mixer wif eq's

i've got over 100 records all classic house and paid less then $400 for it

You can easily find records and i mean good records for under $5

The only time vinyl becomes expensive is when you want to keep getting the newest tracks on vinyl, if you just want to learn to mix and dont care if your music isnt the latest, vinyl is probz even cheaper then digital, and u dont have to go through the hassle of burning downloading etc etc.

Agree completely, get some decks, i reckon after the DJ bug bites, you will want to get into vinyl as well. Get some truntables 2nd hand, some record learn to mix, and save for serato. Set.

it's actually not a bad proposition considering there's complete setups going for $1400 at the moment.

assuming you already have a half decent laptop/desktop with flat panel monitor you can spend the $1400 and then buy torq from overseas for $~600 which means you have full control of digital and vinyl for $2k.

you'd be hard pressed to get a professional CDJ setup for that (i can tell you now you won't)

google "maudio torq" and do a little reading.

^^^ This is the best option i would recommend for you. I can guarantee you will get sick of mixing songs off an album very quickly.

[quote=wulvo]Umm is this any good for a beginner whos going to be mixing dance music (hardcore mainly)?QUOTE]

And If you're mixing hardcore you won't be able to buy many good legal mp3's. Everything is on vinyl. Have a look at beatport and all the good tracks won't be on there. ie no evolution / next generation. You won't see many people mixing hardcore on cd's.

So basically maudio torq is a program that you can hook your decks up to and mix songs of your comp without cd's?

I got likeover one thousand hardcore songs lol, i doubt il get bored.

But you never no. I mean if i start to really enjoy dj'ng then i will be buying some 800's or 100's next year.

if you download music from limewire or illegally you'll be put off mixing, intro outro cut out pitch keeps changing

i rekon best setup for beginner is 1200s wif a rackmount, nothing beats being able to cue on the cdjs and keep making adjustments and then cueing on beat again until the two tracks are beatmixed, this helps until you learn to ride the pitch and wont damage ur records
