Detroit was gutted as a city when the motor industry let, the suburbs and inner city fell into decay, rotting – in short its a tough bleak place to make a crust and rise up out of. With the passing of Motown, the music to come from the city diversified but it was still about escape and transformation. This notably first came from techno producers in the late 80s to early 90s, but with the commercial prominence of Eminem and on the underground; Slum Village and the late J Dilla, a new voice is being heard. Hip hop from The D is transcending the harshness of the streets, and artists like Now On are taking the oft-maligned genre back to its fundamentals; originality, voice, culture and of course entertainment. This is the real boom bap; pulling samples from Detroit’s past to deliver up a deeply soulful album. It is fresh but still has the grime and yet still fresh with the stilted drums of the Midwest coupled with excellent musicianship across the album. Itt has a future sound, while still deeply rooted in the likes of early De La Soul and Tribe Called Quest. Eye Level is the first album from Now On with production held down by The Lab Techs. Now On, another refreshment from the musically legendary Detroit.

I really liked Sabotage Gigante but it does not hold a candle to Rob's previous album which was the biggest banger i've seen since I ground up Xpose's mum's flesh and made her into a sausage
