one of the most random things i've ever read on the forums - you feeling alright mate? haha

jkwits - nice one, hope to see you at some stage!

garthboy - it's a $50 mic stand. the clever trigger finger designers made it so you can just stick it on the end of one. sure is great for space saving etc

did another reshuffle (gotta hide all the production gear out of harms way for a house party next week!)

gonna build two pull out drawers for the CDJs to sit on, they will be in the gap between the expedit and the top part. just need to find the time to do it
also i hate mixing with the 1200s sideways, so unco. hence why im building the drawers, so i can have TTs normal and when my $900 comes thru will be buying monitors too.

I've used 800's heaps in clubs and rented a DJM700 once when I did a Sydney trip to DJ a private party.

My opinion would be to save more for the 800. The price difference is negligible in the long run and the colour effects on each channel on the 800 warrant the extra cash for me. The 700 is a nice mixer - a whole world above how the 600 was both in feel and sound but in the long run you'll wish you'd have bought the better model. (Case in point - I bought CDJ800's and since have wished I had saved the extra to get 1000's)

But with that in mind - Pioneers rate very low on my list of preferred mixers. You can usually find (especially now with Pio price rises) a Xone92 for around the price of a DJM800 and when you mix with allen and heath, your're in the xone.......

.... sorry for the bad pun

Is the bit attached to the expedit an ikea mash-up or did you make it from scratch? It looks nice to have that extra bit of height and space.

its an ikea mash up haha. yeah used the instructablesikea dj console, with a few slight differences. mainly did it cos i found that having my TTs on the plain expedit was too low for me and was giving me a sore back (im 6 foot 3) and also wanted some extra room. and now its gonna be useful for when i construct these cdj drawers, as they will perfectly fit into the gap between the two, will look pretty schmick if it turns out as planned. the bottom half of the LACK tv stand is on my desk, raises up the computer screen and gives me space underneath to store things. i will post up some good pics once the drawers are completed. also plan to reinforce the whole thing with a big sheet of MDF on the back, to prevent it racking diagonally and also to give it a nice neat look from the front if i ever have it freestanding (will paint mdf when that time comes)

re: 700, i kinda wish i had saved for an 800 but it came along at the right price (about 1250 brand new) and i dont use FX at all anyway so it makes little difference. tried allen & heath mixers and they are nice but i preferred the 700/800.

^My advice is to go to Spank and have a listen.
Probably also worth hearing the other speakers in that pricerange (EMES, Event TR-6s and 8s - if anyone still has them, and the Yamaha HS-80Ms).

Nice work mate. I'm building one myself at the moment as well. Definately can't wait to get it finished and it's much more enjoyable building something yourself, as it's custom designed as well.

How solid is your table? Does it wobble much when you're using the turntables?

they're VXT8's.. didn't really rate the RP6's or RP8's, haven't heard the new version though.. VXT8's sound very full/natural for studio monitors which is why I bought em. they have the most 'solid' sound i'd heard of all the monitors I listened too. stereo imaging is nuts when they're set up right too.

I'm really happy with the way the setup turned out. The bench is at a great height, partly due to my bad lower back. It certainly makes a difference having the collection sorted as well.

No CDJs for me sorry, there's no way I'd ever get the time to digitise the vinyl.

Also, does anyone use the Vestax PDX 3000? Was thinking of buying one as I've read that they hold pitch extremely well, coupled with other features. Can anyone offer some advice?

They sound good. They sounded warmer than the KRK RP8s in store, but they were placed at least four or so metres away. The bass is good, vibrates through wall and can be felt through the floor as well. Just a clean sound at any volume level I suppose.

Cheers. I've rented for a long while and I'm finally in my own joint so I wanted to dedicate a room to my hobby.

The RS7000 is handy to have close by to sample too. With so many records over the years you literally forget what you've got and can be pleasantly surprised by finding a track you didn't realise you had, and that happens quite often.

Thats the beauty of vinyl. Going through your records from a few years ago and finding a b-side that you never listened too and ends up blowing you away. Thats a handsome collection, must be close to 3000 no? I'm only at 1000 after a steady 4 years.

How did you organise it? By genre or label?

By label. It's all techno except for some house and trance. There's about two and half thou here. There's about 800 odd of old school london acid in storage, you know stay up for ever and that sort of stuff.

Brought alot of the earlier 'schranz' style techno from the early 2000's. It's good to reflect and see what stages of life I was in going through back then, ie alot of amphetamines obviously

Ooops..forgot the 'Bass Bin' mobile system...

(have since hidden the monitor speaker under the deck facing upwards).

Has a 5.1 surround sound (sorta) inside complete with subwoofer.
