The yacht club is great for drinking the afternoon away. The food is quite good as well.

Can't see the point of being in manly and not being over water.

For the price it's rubbish, just like most places in Manly.

it's a tourist hub. which is why i normally go to the skiff club seems to be a bit out of the way.

Went to Chiswick last night, Matt Moran's new one.

Granted it was the first night so bound to be a few teething problems but it didn't leave a great first impression. Took about 10 minutes to get asked for a drink whilst waiting for the table. Had some veal tonnato sliders with the drinks which were pretty good.

The various starters were nice but nothing to rave about (salt cured tuna, scallops and the pickled radish salad). The mains however were not great. My roast chicken had blood running out of it near the leg bone when cut into, and needed 10 minutes more cooking (I don't mind my chicken a little underdone either but this was literally bright red blood). The 'Moran' family steak was good quality, but arrived cold. Pointed out the chicken and it got sorted but was a bit boring over all. Deserts were a little tasteless apart from the 'eclair' which was nice. Service was very professional and friendly though. Wouldn't hurry back!

Went to Porteno on Tuesday night and ate THE BEST pork I've ever had. My god. It was almost like a thick liquid it melted in the mouth so easily.

We only went as a table of two so we didn't get to try as many different things as we'd liked to. Bread and pork pate and olives for starters. All were just fine. As a shared entree we ordered a seafood tapas dish that consisted of calamari and fish marinated in a mandarin sauce. It was fresh and delicious and kind of a cross between sushi and ceviche. I was hoping for ceviche but it was delightful nonetheless.

Then came the pork with two sides. One of grilled green beans in garlic and a bowl of garlic polenta. Next time I'd go for some more cold salad options. The oil factor on the sides got a bit much with the pork and we needed a palate cleanser. Lesson learned. The pork was absolutely killer though. We ate every mouthful... just.

For dessert we shared a fig tart which was their special for the evening. It was topped with beautiful creamy whipped blue cheese, cream and icecream which sounds heavy but was surprisingly not. We were amazed we managed to get it down after demolishing the pork between the two of us.

Can't wait to go back.

FYI, you can now sit at the bar at Seibo have a few beers and chow down on as many of the delicious pork buns as you like!

Went to Black last night at The Star. Heard some mixed reports about the steaks due to the fact they are all pre cooked sous-vide, but I have to say it was one of the best rib eye's I've had recently! Super tender and juicy, but still nicely chared on the outside. Very very very tasty! Starter was good which was their signature dish of egg, serano ham, potato cream in a potato 'birds nest' with truffle. The truffle was a complete waste of time, dry and tasteless but the rest of the dish was lovely! Wine list pretty good, some interesting hidden gems like Nicolas Joly and Overnoy Vin Jaune :drool. Service fine but could be a bit sharper, especially the wine service. Would definitely go back if I had a steak craving. (Better than the recent ones at Rockpool B+G)

FIANLLY got to Porteno last night. There were 11 of us so had to have the banquet which was super generous. Lots of lovely small snacky things to start...great pate and amazing smoky, spicy eggplant. The morcilla was delicious, so rich but still delicate. For the meat they gave us lamb, chicken and sirloin. The sirloin was ok but the lamb and chicken were top notch. Chicken was brined I think so not dry at all and nicely crispy and salty on the outside. The lamb was my favourite; tender, juicy and with lamb crackling! SOLD. There was heaps left over so I've bought it home to match cold lamb sandwiches with heaps of mint sauce for lunch. And yes, the brussel sprouts do indeed rock.

Will be back for sure with a small group to order more of the good stuff.

I find Toko way over-priced for what you get. We had to buy a burger on the way home after dinner there. Do they still do 2-for-1 Mondays?

Busshari is the best Japanese I've had in Sydney - Macleay St Potts Point.

Went to The Grounds in Alexandria for breakfast last weekend. Amazing. The lunch menu looks awesome too. Problem is it's so damn popular. We tried to go for lunch the other weekend but was a one hour wait to be seated! Well worth a trip though - but go on a weekday or early morning if you can (we got there at 8am on sunday and the place was packed out).

forgot to post up my review from eatability on food society.

Quote:

Firstly, having a parking lot right across the road was very handy.

I went into this restaurant without any expectations really, not knowing what to expect. Was initially interested because the menu appealed to me.

Upon first walking in the decor of the place stood out, great atmosphere, friendly staff, really "cool" place, put a slight smile on my face before I'd even seated.

I drank the merlot (ordered by the glass) which I really enjoyed, however, some others at the table were happy to order a soft drink which for a bar offering cocktails not to have was quite strange.

The food was absolutely delicious. Only problem there was alot of the "smaller" appetisers had to be ordered in 'twos', which I was fine with, only to find when the bill came they actually charged you twice the price on the menu. Why bother showing the price for 1 when you have to order 2 and pay twice the price?

They cater for vegetarians and picky eaters quite easily, changing the dishes to suit which was very good, the desserts were also delicious and balanced.

Would come back as there's still lots to try on the menu even after the substantial amount of food/dishes I tried.

yes i do post lame reviews on eatability.

My review for Otto in Woolloomooloo

Quote:

Went with a group of 6. Night was a bit cooler but waiters offered us some blankets (much to our amusement) to keep warm.

Service was fantastic, drinks and wine were nice and the food was delicious.

I know its fine dining but I still found it expensive for what you got. 18 dollars a glass of wine, and for the size and quality of the meals I think it was overpriced.

I had the beef carpacio which was nice as always however the salt they used was flaked and biting into bits of salt wasn't the tastiest part of the dish.

For the main I had the Braised Beef Cheek in Marsala with Heirloom Carrots and Carrot Puree. It was very delicious though I have had nicer beef cheek at a cheaper restaurant before.

I had the pineapple bavarois with coconut gelato, coconut crumble meringue and passionfruit for dessert which was beautiful light and refreshing.

After all of this with some sides of potato puree and sauteed spinach I was still slightly hungry as the meals weren't considerable size.

Still a great experience which I would recommend.

Xanthi is amazingly good. Highly recommended. Olive Oil Ice cream was awesome, as was the truffle moussaka, and the lamb off the spit. Very generous portions, we over ordered hugely (3 people, 3 entrees, 3 mains, 2 additional sides, 2 desserts), and we all rolled out of there stuffed and content.

Did the degustation at Ortolan on Bayswater on Sat night. Was tres excellent. Food was delicious, the wines well matched. And surpisingly the portions were rather generous for the "mains". My wife and I were actually full by the end. We struggled with the petit fours.
