The Live Electronic music thread.
Okay so...

Who here plays live electronic music of whatever genre?

Im aware some you do..
/looks at Dri and Pro Tool, H.P.S? , slipperyjim, lowkeyandnude, blinky .. ; )

What I'd like to achieve in this thread is

a) a sort of database of people playing live, for the promoters among us to check in on, see whos rocking it live in your area/city etc. will help those who are live find other acts they can support/jam with too
b) some cool mixes for us to d/l and enjoy, talk about/drool over/compare notes etc

thus furthuring the live scene in aus hopefully : )

pretty please post like THIS to help make this thread easy to read+navigate ; D cheers

Your Name / act name / group name / members names etc.. what you call yourselves
Your Location
Your Setup (maybe even a photo(gear-pr0n)
Mix Name (maybe even a little artwork)
What kinda genre/style is this roughly.. some kinda explanation

now im aware some of you may not have mixes available..
could you please post your name/setup.location/what style you play etc anyways?
this way we'll (the itm community) become aware of your existance, thats what this thread is about

a place to find some live electronic acts, not just have to rely on word of mouth
thanks : )

Your Name:

paqman. (James Hewson, Hayden Quinn)

Your Location:

Canberra, ACT

Your Setup

Mpc2000xl is master clock and sequencer, which sends sync to a PC running Ableton live, and also sends clock to a delay, flange, tremelo unit and then on to a MC-505 (back in the game, wiggy). then a whole heap of drums and fills are in the MPC, a heap opf content in ableton, and then a heap of midi sends can be triggered off in ableton which route indivdually into an old DX27, which i love dearly, we also send to a Nord Lead, a novation XIO and a micro korg. then everything comes together into our mixer, which has a couple of sends running off to our delay etc. unit, and out home made spring reverb "the Paq-Verb".

Finally, we have a talk box which most of the synths can route through if we desire to do so... which we do.

everything we play is purely improvised and because of the way we have set up our gear, and the flexibility of ableton (being able to trigger off ANY tiny element of a song at ANY time) we are 100% in control of what is happening, which is a happy feeling, no two sets we play are the same

there are photos of us being pretentious in our studio (same set up as when we are playing live) at our myspace: www.myspace.com/paqmanelectronica

Mix Name

if i knew somewhere i could upload a set, i would do it and post it here. for now, there are some old unmastered tracks on our myspace, including our bloc party remix.

What kinda genre

We call ourselves Experimental Electronica, we are heavily influenced by The chemical Brothers, AIR, daft punk and the mars volta, and i think that comes through in the music. we experiment with odd time signatures, atonal lead lines, and concepts.

i'll shut up now. i just enjoy telling people what we do.

Live music discussion over here. A nice peek into some non-geek perspectives on what we're all doing. I think all good art comes with a bit of a struggle for understanding, and a slight disfavour from whatever "establishment" you feel represents the greater community amid your field.

I'll probably still drag the iMac to gigs tho, can't wait to have both running in my studio *ahem* bedroom.

yeah it was my travelling music on the way to work. Great stuff. Has a nice AFX flavour, maybe it's those old skool hat/ride action and quirky bass lines that pop in and out...

Your Name : Kobra Kai

Members : Trimaxis (Bass), Rehan (Synth/Guitars), Hutch (Drums), D-tech (vox), Slice (vox), Spex (vox), Zaniah (vox

Your Location : Sydney

Your Setup :

1 Mac (ableton) with a MOTU 828 mkII audio interface and a TC Powercore act as a hub. Drums consist of a live kit with electronic triggers running from a Roland SPDS linked to a Roland TMC-6 MIDI trigger Converter, outputting audio to the MOTU and MID thru a 2nd mac (logic) (allows drummer to switch patches) and then onto the MOTU, triggering drum samples from ableton.

Bass player has a MIDI pickup on his bass thru to a Terratec Axon AX 100 mkII Midi converter thru to a Virus C Synth module run thru the mac (with logic)

Synths are all software synths (albino 3, bass station, FM7 etc .. ) .. a lot of sounds are sampled (to save cpu) and triggered on a PC with Reason sampler NNXT with a a crappy Evolution MIDI controller. Live Synths and Ableton control is done with a Novation Remote SL

All these elements run into a Mackie Mixer and thru to front of house

Style/Genre :

Drum'n'bass/Grime/Dubstep/Hip hop/Electronica

Your Setup

Laptop running Ableton, Behringer BCR200 mainly, I've got these two running together like a well oiled machine, don't need to touch the laptop ever. Somtimes depending on the gig I'll use the MPC1000, Korg Micro Kontrol, Sherman Filterbank, Warpfactory Vocoder, KaossPad, Beyer Dynamic Mic

Mix Name

Live set recorded for our club night Interview back in March

What kinda genre/style

This set is a mixed bag of all sorts. There's electro, tech, breaks, prog and a bit of trance at the end, there's even some cheesy Britany in there! Enjoy

These days I'm still writing in basically every genre this side if gabba! But my live set consist of breaks, electro, teck, and some psy stuff

Awesome thread Darko, on of those "why didn't I think of that?" things! I'll definatly be using this thread to book artists, gonna be quite handy

I'd just like to say this is heaps, heaps better than the dead electronic music thread.

Name: Changes from time to time to avoid getting anywhere. (currently Electric Comput3r, nearly time for a change.)

Location: The Deep North

Members: me

Style: whatever. depends on what the room/next act is like. anything from downtempo fluff to angry kicks layered over scary noises, a musical version of the dude who comes up to you while you're tripping off your tits and tries to "spin you out." In other words, annoying, random and shit.

Setup: laptop or desktop, BCF2000, Live, mouse, Outlook express

Sets : got this whole zen thing going on where every performance is like a mandala, made to be experienced once and never listened to again. (see frequent name changes, lack of tracks being posted etc)

hmm, should chuck a track up on the shameless self promotion forum. Been a while.

pics
