Rectangle green was always my fave for its "Fun-ky" sample, now my faves are my video game breaks 1 and 2.

Mind you I rarely use them these days, I just throw my samples into Serato instead, and with the upgraded CP-Pro fader in my DXM06 its a fairly decent little battle mixer.

i scratched for years before I could beatmatch
i used to be able to juggle (not back-to-back) but if you asked me to mix, id match a snare to a snare and try and determine which snare cracked first. what the fuck is a bar?

Just got back from my half hour lesson with Kentaro (Thanks ITM, best prize ever). My god the man is a genius. We had a bit of a scratch together, so he could see what I knew... Spent most of the time drumming, picked up a few things from him, but as he said, its all about practice... need to practice every day to be good at something...

Was seriously amazing to spend even just a short amount of time there with him... he is such a nice guy. Just got back from the actual gig, he is amazing, cutting and juggling like no other.. I was blown away when I first saw craze and qbert perform, but this was like it was another level.

He also gave me a copy of his new single, signed of course

Nope, not a single laptop in sight. 2 x 1200s, a technics 1200 mixer, a pioneer DVDJ, a pioneer DJM 900 and a Kaos pad.

that's what being a DJ is about ... not pressing buttons and beat matching 4TTF at 130BPM all night

So true, maybe minus the 'n scratch' part.

So I was bored the other day, realised my laptop had a webcam that I never use, and since someone in another thread wanted me to videotape a 10 min mix.... I figured I'd start off small and learn to use the camera first...

So here is my first video.... Its the dopeman beat off rectangle 4 I think (will check tonight) and just the classic "ahhhhhhhh" sample.... nothing too fancy, just mucking around with different cuts and tempos...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=c9mr11W7MN4

Enjoy.

I'm planning some 10 minute video mix that someone told me to do in the DJ comp thread... A house DJ telling me to "put my money where my mouth is"

Will have a good cut up over DnB in that video... try and fit at least 7 songs + scratching in...

Enjoy.

I would recommend hooking up your mixer to your computer as you record so it's recording straight from the mixer and you don't hear the crossfader being smashed around. That way you can record your mix as a soundfile at the same time as well.

I went and saw his recent Sydney performance, what an utter let down that one of the most talented hip hop DJs in the world could sell out like that.

what RnB tracks did he drop ?

he played Dawn Penn's No No No shortly after i'd gotten in ... classic reggae

I'm not a chin stroker. I like to get really smashed and dance to good, fun tunes. I don't train spot... except when the DJ is playing tracks that I have to listen to all day at work, and whenever i turn on MTV. Try Nelly and 50 Cent for some examples.

but you go right ahead and assume everything about everyone. I think that's a super philosphy.

you need to lighten up before you burst an artery

if you want assumptions ... here's one ...

i'd say i've rocked more house parties than you've attended in life ... and sometimes the cheese has to be dropped ... how do you know Cash Money didn't drop "cheese" in his earlier days ?

Have you heard every set he ever did?

how can you call him a sellout based on your assumptions about what he plays ... unless we have the word from the man himself ...

now just stop ... and take a deep breath before you post a reply to this ... unless of course you won't back down because you know you're right

Werd to that.I need to play with some other samples, Heehaw brayks has 100s on it, but I am in love with the classics, like "ahhhhhhhhhhhhh" "fresh" "all that scratch is making me itch" ect....

had the pleasure of catching z-trip last week and it was easily the best thing i've ever seen live in my life. he had a live drummer there as well, and they'd be trading beats sometimes, other times z-trip got off the decks and while the drummer was playing grabbed a couple of sticks and played at the same time which was pretty nuts then the drummer and z-trip were going beat for beat on the drumkit and it was just nuts. soup from j5 was mc'ing every now and then too which was icing on the cake. the whole thing was absolutely fucking epic and no words i use could do it justice! format played too but was a really huge let-down for me as i'd be very much looking forward to him and it was just fully average.

whoa.. yeah, i said at his most recent Sydney performance he sold out and played cheesy fucking RnB, and made no mention of past gigs where he might've killed it (and I've heard he most definately did kill it). I was simply saying it's sad to see someone who was once so incredibly awesome play that sort of cheese.

But come on, keep the assumptions and accusations coming.

holtless ... I'm not going to engage you any further because it's become apparent to me you just don't see reason and can't comprehend logic or follow a debate when you are obsessed with being right all the time.

richcur ... i hope you'll get over your penchant for sticking the knife in me and taking cheap shots when ever someone else gives you a chance soon ... it's getting pretty stale

thanks for your contributions lads

Let's not forget that time can turn some cheese into a delectible experience. So when you listen to classics just think "wow, everyone probably thought that shit was so cheesy a decade ago". Maybe in time cheesy songs will be remebered as fun and not just commercial. That being said cheese can also develop into a mouldy, gastroenteritis inducing mess...
I could be wrong, but I believe diversity is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.
