Ride that bpitch
So who here rides the pitch on the CDJs? I am pretty good w/ riding the pitch on turntables but have noticed its quite different riding on CDJs. I find myself nudging instead of riding just because it feels more accurate. Whats the best technique on CDJs?

Same as the above. It doesn't feel right riding it on the Cd'js because of the lack of friction and the fact that they go up in increments. Master Control and a nudge is all you need.

nothin' but ride unless using a 800 or 1000 and then i am a little lazier. i'd highly recommend only touching the pitch to beatmatch though it seems pretty weird at the start on the cdjs but i'd say it's a must because when you can do it on one you can do it on the lot and also there seems to be a few threads where not being able to ride the pitch it causing them problems beatmatching IMO

It's like asking:

What do you like more, blondes or brunettes.

It's a personal thing. Have a play riding on a CDJ and if you don't like it, then keep nudging.

I have seen Louie Vega ride the pitch on CDJ1000's perfectly and very quickly, so it can be done.

For the record, I nudge on TT's and CDJ's, however at the moment I am using the + and - on CDJ's and it's nice. Also haven't played TT's for a long time.
I'll be back...

I have some denon 3500's and I ride the pitch on them. Mainly because I like the units set on the spinning platter mode for cueing and I found it the easiest way to beatmatch on them. I also now think of it as a good skill to have under the belt if I have to mix on other gear.

+1 for riding the pitch

I've recently started mixing on cdjs and was used to riding pitch my 1200s.
Definetly feels alot different, especially because the pitch control is alot lighter on my cdjs.

I figure it will be worth getting used to pitch riding on cdj's, because when I switched to pitch riding on vinyl, it took ages but eventually it was worth it.

Trouble is sometimes you move the pitch on cdjs, (im using pioneer 800 and 1000's btw) and it dosent actually change the pitch, so you have to look at the display while making small pitch adjustments.

Its easier to ride it on the +- 10% pitch range as you only need to move the pitch in smaller increments. ITs a pain and a half doing it on the +- 6 unless your really on it.....Steve Porter does it no sweat and really fast too.

Personally I've just gotten lazy these days and prefer to cue it exactly and just nudge when need too.

minor changes = platter movement + fine change

major change = ride it like a cheap slut.
step on my cubes.

Increasing and decreasing the pitch using the pitch slider starting with wider movements which become smaller and more accurate as you become closer to matching the beats.
