Average spendings on music
If another thread's been done, link me up n i'll delete this one

How much to people spend on their passion, their love, their music?

Weekly, monthly, doesn't matter. Since getting my turntables, i buy a new bunch of record at least one a month, usually upward of $100.

This week has been my biggest round of spending by far, totaling about $530.

It's when spending stupid amounts of money like that, that i think digital may not be such a bad thing at all, but am interested to know how much other people (vinyl and mp3) spend... as i can also see myself buying $500 worth of mp3s if i really got on a roll lol

Actually i think this deserves a poll... i'll make it on a monthly basis, so if u buy every week, just times it by 4

Also, please post to let us know what format/s you buy in

This is probably the first large lot of records i've bought where every tune is one i've sort after since getting decks, and all of them are 5 years or more older and hence extremely hard to get a hold of.
Previously i've bought all the records someone may be selling, where i don't know half the tunes, or when rekkids are going cheap on a site i'll take a stab in the dark, so there may even be a few i never get to play! It's nice having more vinyl than you can poke a stick at tho ^_^

I used to spend around $100 to $200 a month on vinyl. But then not buy anything for a few months.

Now I only buy digital. I can buy between $20 - $120 worth of tunes in a batch, but these sit in a wishlist for ages and I listen to them a few times over a few weeks to see if I really like them. The problem I have is that I live in Tokyo, but I don't have a Japanese credit card. I have to use money I have in Australia to buy anything I need to buy with a credit card, so I quickly realise that I am wasting my savings.

But I currently have over $500 in my wishlist, some have been there for ages. I am certain I wouldn't play all of them, that's why they are in the wishlist. Kind of like a short list and when I know I am buying, I have another listen to them and if I feel a track, I pick it up.

I buy MP3s off beatport and I usually buy twice a month and I spend between $50 - $100 per purchase, I've bought quite a lot lately, I recently started getting into breaks so I've been on overload looking through heaps of tracks. Mr. Beatport must be a multi-billionaire by now surely!

not much recently due to living in a different location to my DJing equipment... which will hopefully change soon.

when buying mp3's i usually spend $70 a month i think?

when i was buying vinyl it could have been anywhere up to $600 a month. this happened for 2 time periods.... when i was starting out and there was so much good music around.... and when i was trying to keep my trance collection going + funky house + i was getting into tech-electro, tech house, harder techno.....

I'd go shopping at onestop on tuesday and spank+others on friday and 'accidently' forget how much I'd spent at the other.

50-100 on records a month. i buy quality over quantity, and also a fair bit of second hand stuff (for collecting as much as playing)

You buy 50 to 100 a month and you say you buy quality over quantity! What fucking tracks are you getting? That's a shit load! It took me over a year to get 100 records!

usually spend about about 50 - 60 a week. i go to spank every thursday when they get their new shipment in and listen to everything from the genres i like. i then narrow it down to 5 or 6 tunes that i like then force myself to only get 2 or 3. best way to get quality over quantity imo. been playing for just on a year and have about 130 records.

Used to buy shit loads, like $200 a week on digital, then realised a few weeks ago I was downloading so much and not getting through listening to it all before I bought more, which was stupid, now I have just dropped down to buying maybe $50 a month, but I will taker the whole month to buy them, listening to them over and over, and then purchasing

Pretty much...

Nothing atm (Playing two more gigs than taking a break for a while)... average was around the $400-$500 mark..

I steal all my music. I don't mean piracy either. I mean like, fraudulent Beatport gift cards.

You'd be surprised how often just typing in a random number actually works.

i mainly only buy vinyl. Also get them more in bulk so its alot cheaper (ie. $5 each rather then $20) I buy cds fairly rarely, say 1 big combo set a year if that. This month i bought $350 worth but that will probably do me for around 6 months to the year.
I also collect some rarer things, ie original sets of pressed things from really famous groups (objects where there are a set number around and thus normally are numbered also). Currently have a few nice ones of jimi hendrix that cost me a nice penny. All in all one ofs items only happen very rarely (once every few years) when i see something on sothebys, christies or ebay that really stands out that i love.
I do have to be careful because i am like a fat kid looking at cake and start buying when i get caught in a mood and before i know it have a nice credit card bill waiting for me

I go through cycles.

I'll go for a few months spending say $50 a week on mp3s and then go a period of 4-6weeks without buying a thing, then the next order is into the $100+ for that week when the cycle starts again lol.

vinyl is completely different story tho! If you dont get the discounts etc, then your paying $15-20 a record, your gunna spend tones!

Digital is the way to go, you get 20+ tunes for 60 odd bucks!

About 50$ every 2 months.
I buy my music off the MoS download site.
Also, being an audiophile, I get them in 320kbps mp3 - though I would like FLAC...

Sanity ?

honestly dude...go to djdownload, as far as i can tell they are powered by the same engine, maybe even the same people? duno...but there seems to be more range, and they don't even worry about the stupid 192 option, and the 320kb are cheaper than MOS.

of course the king is beatport, its far far easier to search for songs in beatport, but there are some frustrating things about it, you cant listen to a whole bunch in a row for a start, but the artist/label profiles are very well done.
