Wonky is pretty much the Dirty Bird label sound, ala Justin Martin/Claude Von Stroke etc. really warped sounds, its great term to desribe it. Its a very popular sound at the moment and very foward thinking.

good example being

Luke Solomon - Ghouls (Claude VonStroke's Beats From The Grave) is a good example

^^ Don't take it too hard.

J-Rad - just had a listen to the song and I see what you mean.... It's not fidget, similar but deeper and less bouncy. Kinda cool - I can picture it going off on a massive system.

cant believe im posting a wikepedia quote;

but its more to inform ya'll

Wonky House (or Wonk House) is a subgenre of house music, that contains elements of Chicago house, tech house, minimal house and the qurkier end of techno.

Its beats are generally 4 to the floor, but the noises attached often have a quirky, and possibly comedic elements, (animal noises, kazoos, bells, whistles etc), whilst retaining the funkier and deeper grooves of house music.

Main exponents of the genre are Big Hair and Ward Clerk from London label U-Freqs, Jacob London from Seattle, Claude Von Stroke from Dirty Bird records in San Francisco, Mike Monday from Playtime in the UK, Mowgli, and Chris Duckenfield from Swag in Nottingham. Djs such as Nathan Coles also play elements of this genre.

Fkn fidgety bull shite..

In the beginning there was Jack, and Jack had a groove. And from this groove came the groove of all grooves. And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, Jack boldly declared: Let there be house! And housemusic was born.

so pretty much a perfect example of one of these tunes would be Claude Von Stroke's "Chimps"?

Seriously its just house music.

Its just getting this publicity becasue these artists are actually doing something fresh and different with it.

yeah of course its house music, but as said previously its a term to describe the sound. not a genre as such. Same with fidget, electro, acid, prog. But if you just said oh it sounds like house, its a bit of a broad term.

I agree with J-RAD, its like when uneducated minds call everything with a doof doof beat Techno or Trance.

Well I'm going to challenge that statement.

Could it just be that much of the electronic-based music being released over the past few years is so same old, same old that when someone finally comes up with something fresh and original (like, gasp, ORIGINAL MUSIC, shock horror, who'd of thunk it?!!), we're taken so much by surprise that we must give it a new genre to go along with it?

Which then paves the way for an endless stream of unoriginal copycat remix DJs to follow suit?

When techno and trance emerged, it flourished with release after release of fresh, original, creative, innovative ideas...

...but it wasn't the cue to stick each release in a new genre rack at the local record shop.

Nope, so techno, trance it was (...um, also along with house, psy, hi-hop etc.)

Imagine if we classed every movie/book/tv programme not by loose genre, but by the storyline each contained?

Is that where we're heading with music?

sure is, how many sub genre's of techno and trance are there?? lotsa.
im sure it was a big hoo haa back then and im sure it will continue. Im not debating the fact that its still all quality music of the same general scene (most of it), im more saying its easier to talk about it amongst ourselves because of these names rather than just saying "i like dance music", or doof doof, hehe. You can define what you like a bit more within these main names. eg. im not a fan of funky house, but i like tech, minimal and prog etc. these are all viable names just like fidget, wonky, glitch etc. they just been around longer.

I use sub-genres as a rough guide to search and then I use two genres:

1) I like it
2) I dont like it

I like my system.

I no longer claim to listen to fidget house. It just sounds retarded for starters and it completely pidgeon holes me.

I still enjoy a lot of the genre (aside from the fact that not a single decent track has been named in this thread yet) but I can't take this rubbish anymore. If anyone wants to hear a GOOD fidget house set, download HiJacks Radio One mix. Should be on his myspace.

http://www.myspace.com/hijackhouse

The mix is here; http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8v...M3NzFhOTRlMC8=

From now on I'm just gonna call it house, or Jackin house if someone wants a more detailed description.
