Went for my first run and bit of exercise in 7 months. 3.5km, good pace. Actually much better pace than I expected but no doubt I will die from mega DOMS tomorrow. Feels damn good to be back though, I felt so alive out there.

I recently added a pair of Brooks Pure Flow to my arsenal. I'm easing into using them on short runs a couple of times a week.

They're a lower heel to toe drop, but still have the support of a traditional running shoe. They make your calves and achilles work a lot harder and I've noticed a difference in my glutes as well. It's a good compromise if you don't want to go all the way to running in Vibrams or whatever.

April done:

77km @ 5.48

pace and distance way down, partly because most my runs were either trails, up steps or over mountains last month, but also partly because running took a back seat to eating pizza/pasta/buffet breakfasts and drinking a litre of wine a day..

back on the horse in May!

Jan - 55km
Feb - 90km
Mar - 84km
Apr - 114km

Finally getting back into a solid routine after a slow start to the year. 30-40km a week is the aim.

It's Thursday and it's past noon. Thursday is one of my days off. On my days off I start drinking at noon. You don't get to interrupt that.

I'm writing a mara training plan for the GF, we're going to do Sydney together. At this stage I think I'll be doing a 101km in Canberra the week after. Whoo, running.

Last year I was running sub 2 hour 21km for fun on the weekend, now a 15km long run hurts for a day afterwards.

Aiming to get back to that level of running fitness before mid August.

Meant to ask, how did TNF50 compare to 6FT?

TNF50 is a lot harder. Obviously it's 5km longer, but there's also a lot more technical single track. There's also a lot more stairs, both up and down. The big ascent in the new course starts at about 36km and goes right to the end. The last km is absolutely brutal. It's 900 steps and about 200m vertical gain. I'm not sure exactly what the overall vertical gain of the TNF50, because everyone's GPS lost signal at one point or another, but apparently a dude on coolrunning had a barometric altimeter and said it was about 2300m.

I think if you've done 6FT, TNF50 is a great next race. It's harder, but I think the course is better. That said, I was much better prepared for this race than I was for 6FT.

New plan! 50 miler in WA in September. Canberra 101km wouldn't count as a CCC qualifier.

"Runners run because they love running. Joggers jog because they love cake and, to a lesser extent, fitting into their trousers"...

I think most of us can call ourselves runners, not joggers by this measure

Why do running skirts anger me?

Not just a mild irritation either, they make me squint at them (in the shops and on my computer) and seethe.

http://running.competitor.com/2014/0...-skirts_104256

If it was for ventilation I would understand, but most people are still going to wear underwear and end up with a steamy clam, so WHAT IS THE FUCKING POINT?!

I think that's what annoys me about it. If you look cute when you're working out, you're probably not working hard enough.

“I Just Want To Feel Pretty!”

Oh ffs

How many men think that way when they're off to smash a PB?

The last thing I want to think about when I'm mid deadlift rep in the gym is whether or not I'm going into the wank bank of the guy behind me on a machine.

I feel better now. Thank you for listening.

yo runners: I really need/would like to do one more really long run before the marathon. my last one was on Sunday which was 33km, but I haven't been able to have a day off to recover since then and I'm really aware about overtraining. I have to train thursday twice, friday, and saturday this week (8km hill session). Thinking i could run on Saturday around my training session (ie run to and from which would mean Saturday) but worried it's overdoing it.

I'm thinking it's probably smarter if I forego the long run this weekend, and just do a long run next weekend before I taper to the marathon.
any thoughts?
