If I unlock my 620 in my bedroom (at the front of the house), it's synced by the time I walk out the back door. Pretty fucking impressive, it certainly makes my 610 look like a POS.

I have a 305 from 2009 or so, so yeah, I'd take a 610 any day.

Sometimes my 220 takes fucking ages & then drops out. Generally I find that updating the software or charging the battery helps, duh!

Hey Duncan, how are you finding doing long(ish) runs on both Saturday and Sunday?

I'm holding up pretty well. The race I'm training for has 1600m vertical gain over the 80km, so I don't need to go out of my way to run hills. I'm aiming for sub-8 hours, so 6min/km pace, and that means speedwork isn't really an issue either.

Work is sending me to Germany for training and I get back on September 14, with my race on September 27, so that's not ideal. I'm also doing the Sydney marathon with my GF six days beforehand, so that's also not ideal. I'm pretty psyched all the same.

wow that's pretty hectic to collapse and die after only 14km, wonder if he had any pre-existing conditions...

Seems like he must have been taking it pretty seriously to not run with his partner also? so you would assume he was a regular runner?

Run safe everyone !

He was doing 6 min k's so I cant imagine he was a hardcore runner as he was apparently quite fit. Pre-existing condition for sure.

Not too sure if anyone else is a giant nerd like me and needs to wear inserts in their shoes, but about a month ago I swapped my shoes from a pair of knackered supra skytops to some Merrell Freewheel Laces (recommended by my podiatrist) and they've made a hell of a difference. Really comfortable, solid shoe, and not too terribad to look at.

I listened to this podcast the other day and it was a bit of a surprise to me.

It's not really talked about too much, but there are a lot of elites who are pushing themselves to the point of heart damage. When you ignore your heart's signs that it needs a break (and it doesn't clearly tell you in the same way that an injured muscle or ligament screams at you), it can't repair itself. Marathoners sustain a lot of scarring and swelling of the heart.

To write each one of these off as a preexisting condition is not entirely sensible. When you add recreational substance use, a stressful job, travel and then a stoic approach to training for intense races, you're asking for trouble.

Even though he wasn't that fast, it doesn't mean he wasn't training & running to the limit of his abilities and adaptation.

I strongly recommend listening to or reading this...

Probably helps that you do the laces up in those.

1.5hrs of olympic lifting training this morning, running training for P2P is coming along nicely.

In all seriousness, what do you guys think is the bare minimum amount of running training required to run the Point to Pinnacle successfully?

You are already 'fit' so its just getting the miles in your legs.

Weekly long run + hill repeats.

Tapout successfully or Eddie successfully? Because if it's the latter, 4 runs between now and November and a shitload of red wine the night before should see you through.

The lead up to my first 50 miler looks like this:
21/8 - 14/9: In Germany for training for work
17/9 - 19/9: In Brisbane for work
21/9: Sydney Marathon with the GF
22/9 - 24/9: In NZ for work
26/9: Fly to WA for a race start at 4am on 27/9

Not ideal.

well i was going to go to the gym and run, but now I don't want to be a fag, so i've decided on, full skins, boardshorts, singlet, and my wet weather golf jacket (so my iphone keeps dry), plus a beanie (as it's fucking cold)

Will be good to have the coast path to myself again I guess !

I bought a spray jacket for Point to Pinnacle but then I discovered that Bism has one the exact same colour so I've never actually worn it.

Surgery this morning (arthroscopy, chronoplasty and some microfractures) get to spend the next 2 weeks doped up on the couch.

Bad news is the surgeon recommended I never run again because I've down some pretty heavy damage to myself.

How did it happen if you don't mind me asking?

I got banned from joining the Army for life because I fractured my knee once upon a time, but so far all the problems they said I would have, have not surfaced...either way, legs are the worst, I don't have one friend who is active who hasn't had issues with some part of their legs

Not entirely sure how it happened.. Some kind of impact during a soccer game six weeks ago, was fine during the game but once I cooled down afterwards my knee had locked in a bent position and I haven't been able to straighten it since..

Most probable cause is wear and tear from running which has worn away the cartilage in the joint and then an impact during the game has done the major damage and torn it loose.

I broke my ankle on the same leg pretty badly when I was young and it's never had full movement since, so pretty likely that because of that when I run my knee has been taking all the impact to protect the ankle.

Doc said we'll have another look at how it heals from the microfractures but he said it's pretty likely that if I keep running on it I won't have a knee left in 10 years.

Posting for accountability. Going to run this early next year: http://www.sunrun.com.au/

Aiming for sub-50 minutes so I don't have to be in the pleb group for the City2Surf next year. Should piss it in with the rate my fitness is coming back.
